Welcome to doberman911.org, the website for Special Needs Dobermans (SND). We are an organization of people with a common goal of helping senior and special needs Dobermans. That need may be financial or it may be only information and/or moral support for the owner of a Doberman with a serious illness or injury. We will also aid in rehoming and fostering senior Dobermans. These Dobermans may be shelter rescues or they may already be much loved companions with a special need. Financial aid may be through donations or through avenues such as online auctions. Every precaution will be taken to assure that the need is real.

HELP ME

Give me the ugly dog with one eye, three legs,
and help me show that they're more than just a form and a face.
Give me the scarred dog, burned and slashed with hate,
and help me lead it away from that terrible fate.
Give me the deaf and blind dog, and help me show it the way
in the silence and dark of each of their days.
Give me the shutdown dog, depressed of mind,
and help me cherish their soul until their fears unwind.
Give me the old dog, bent and broken with age,
and help me fill their last days with an unending grace.
Give me the ugly dog, I'll leave the pretty one for you,
and help me show them they're worthy of love and joy, too.

Meet The SNDobes Helped With General Funds!!

These Special Needs Dobermans were helped with one-time grants from our most important fund, the General Fund.  This fund is used to help Dobermans fortunate enough to find themselves in Rescue Groups.  Assistance is only provided for extraordinary expenses.  These grants can be augmented by your generous contributions to any of these precious Dobes!! Private owners will be provided the necessary information to help them fundraise for their own Dobes as well as being given information to reduce their costs for medications and ways to seek additional information about Doberman illnesses.

Daisy!

December, 2016:  Can you imagine being a 15 year old Doberman and then being unceremoniously DUMPED, in awful shape and a huge horrific-looking growth on your front paw??  REALLY??? Her "owner" called and got the attention of San Antonio Doberman Rescue's Resident RescueAngel saying she could no longer care for her - from the looks of this poor creature, she hasn't gotten care for a very long time.  One look at her paw will prove that!  WHO CAN WATCH SOMETHING LIKE THIS GROW AND GROW AND DO NOTHING??  This person was not even local to SADAR but Margo said she would rather die herself than to let a 15 year old Doberman die alone and unwanted.  She set the gears in motion and arranged to have Daisy dropped off to a Foster/Transporter for DRNT.  The person brought her to the Foster's home and DUMPED her there - no records, rabies tag - not even a leash.  This person supposedly had AKC papers showing her age.  Given everything concerned with this gross abandonment she may or may not be that old - but she IS a Doberman Senior in dire straits.  FosterMom took her immediately to the vet to assess the state of her health and arranged for surgery to remove the oozing mass.  Regardless of the outcome of that procedure, Daisy will join SADAR when she is well enough to travel and is welcome to spend the rest of her days there if that's what is her fate - she will be cared for and loved, regardless.  Will you please join SADAR and SND in this endeavor to give Miss Daisy to dignity and health she apprently never had? You may begin helping her with your donation by clicking on the PayPal button on the right, or you may also mail one in. Be a part of Driving THIS Miss Daisy in the spirit of this Holiday Season! We at SND and all Doberman Rescues appreciate your continued support! THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! SND Case Management Team!!

Misty!

November, 2016:  "FREE: 1 YEAR OLD UNSPAYED DOBERMAN PINSCHER FEMALE."  I have no idea how close this is to the original posting, but you get the gist. So did Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania. Trish gathered her right up and took her to safety, and what a super girl she’s been to save! She was pulled from her home by strangers who drove her hours away, only to arrive at a new strange place with other dogs already there. She never once complained and took everything in stride, what a strong little lady! Trish says she is just the happiest, most well behaved dog you’ll ever meet and who walks well on lead with just a regular collar. What a wonderful companion for someone for years to come… but it isn’t quite that simple. Misty has been diagnosed with microphthalmia - BOTH EYES!!  Because of this, her third eyelid is covering about 2/3 of the central globe, or eye. She desperately needs surgery to excise part of the third eyelid so that she can see properly. This surgery and a spay is all that stands between this Super Girlie and the home she really deserves. Please consider helping DPRPA and SND to achieve this. You may begin helping Misty by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. If you declare it a gift it helps even more! You may also mail one in. Every penny you donate to her will go directly to her!! We promise!! If you want an even closer look at this preciousl DobeGirl posing as a bumblebee at the Halloween party, please take a look at our latest Poster Girl here:  http://www.doberman911.org. Once again, thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies!! Carol Belknap, Miss Misty's Case Manager.

Rebecca!

November, 2016:  Meet the most beautiful Miss Rebecca! Rebecca is still young and thought to be approximately 2 years old. You see, her past is a total mystery as she was found abandoned in the desert around Las Vegas, a common dumping ground for pets who have been deemed worthless. Alone and afraid, undernourished and dirty, Rebecca was saved by the amazing RescueAngels of Doberman Rescue of Nevada. During what was expected to be a routine check-up and spay, it was discovered Rebecca had some serious medical issues. The first obvious problem was that she had a chicken bone wedged between her upper molars which was removed and is being treated aggressively with antibiotics in hopes her teeth can be saved.  She also had a growth between her shoulders that was aspirated and then removed because of a suspicious bloody serum so histopathology was sent off and we all await some good news with that - we can hope, can't we?  Once she was ready for spay it was discovered that her uterus was wrapped around her bladder resulting in anything but a routine surgery, and so it's no surprise Rebecca had to spend some extra days hospitalized. The unexpected additional procedures along with the hospitalization has left DRNV with a much larger medical bill than they expected and therefore have come to SND with a request for assistance. Please, if you are able, won't you make a tax deductible donation of any amount to help Miss Rebecca? You can begin helping Miss Rebecca by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or you can also mail one in. As always, every penny will go to help DRNV with Rebecca's medical expenses! THANK YOU for your continuing support of our wonderful SNDobermans!!! Broderick!

November, 2016:  This wonderful 6 year old was pulled by the amazing crew of Doberman Pinscher Rescue from Riverside Animal Shelter sometime around the beginning of August, after being unceremoniously abandoned by his owner - surprised?? (rhetorical here). Broderick has proven to be a sweet, smart and handsome boy at the rescue and has wowed everyone - humans and canines alike - with his happy and easygoing spirit. It is just that sort of attitude that probably contributed in no small measure to saving his life. On the morning of October 26th, Broderick's human friends discovered him lethargic along with some abdominal distension. Although his gums were still glowing pink, Broderick was rushed to Doberman Pinscher Rescue's amazing and stellar veterinarian, Dr. Hector Rivera of 4 Paws Vet Clinic. Everyone's worst suspicions were comfirmed - BLOAT! Dr. Rivera immediately operated on Broderick and performed a gastropexy as well, saving this dear boy's life - and removing the possibility of volvulus in the future. Broderick stayed two nights at 4 Paws to assure his recovery from this huge and dangerous surgery. All of us are infinitely grateful to both the angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue and Dr. Rivera - the vet with a heart and hands of gold. As of this writing, Broderick is doing fabulously and feeling wonderful. If you've ever had the experience of seeing gastric torsion, you are well aware of the emotional rollercoaster this brings - not the mention the financial damages - and for a Rescue, dealing with dogs who are HWT positive, dogs that have been neglected, dogs that are critically ill, paying for emergent veterinary expenses is staggering. Broderick's bills are approaching near $2000.00, and they need your help. This is TWO bloat incidences in less than a week!! Your donation to SND on Broderick's behalf means that not only will his bill be paid, but it will help this amazing and wonderful Rescue stay financially solvent. Every penny counts, and the rewards are immeasuraable - just look at this dear boy's face. So, thank you, as always. Hug your quadrupeds and know your donation saves lives! You can begin helping Broderick by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in. Broderick and I thank you. Les Michell-Young, Broderick's Case Manager and friend!

Conejo!

October, 2016:  There is a sweet and funny red Dober Guy at Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in California that is looking for his forever home. His name is Conejo and he has been in rescue for a year - but there is a little problem preventing him from realizing his DobePotential! Unfortunately he bloated around last Saturday night, the 22nd. Of course, seems like these emergencies always happen on a weekend when regular vets are closed! So he had to be taken to an emergency clinic. He had a large midsection and excessive drooling along with unproductive vomiting, and it quickly (fortunately for him) determined that this was obviously bloat. It's a good thing Colleen knew what to look for indeed! Conejo was rescued from the Stockton Animal Shelter in Stockton June 2014. He came with his name, although he had been a stray, they think the shelter named him Conejo - that's Spanish for Rabbit - perhaps he was being a Silly Rabbit?? He has a great spirit and always brings smiles to everyone's faces with all of his antics and obvious joy with everyone he encounters. He is thought to be six years old and is still young enough to have a chance at a great life with a forever family. Due to the fact that Conejo had to be taken to the ER the cost for the bloat surgery is very expensive for our RescueAngels at Dobies and Little Paws who have experienced more than a few costly illness's and emergencies of late. They could certainly use our help to pay for Conejo's vet bill! Please look at this sweet boy and donate to help us help this rescue. You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or mailing one in. As always, every penny will go to this Silly Rabbit - I mean Conejo - that does sound a bit more dignified, doesn't it? Thank you ahead of time. We appreciate any amount you can donate. If you want an even closer look at this so sweet Dobe, please take a look at our latest Poster DUDE here:  http://www.doberman911.org/. Nancy Harwood, Case Manager for Conejo.

Duke!

October, 2016:  Duke is a loving Dober-dude somewhere in the 4 to 8 year old range with a “home scissors” crop. His owners didn’t supply any information about him and his condition makes it hard to tell. He could be young. He was found loose and alone by a good Samaritan. She did go to the trouble of finding his owners, who seemed glad he was gone. They are immigrants living in a rented mobile home. He was kept tied outside and they claim they can’t care for him anymore (yeah, like it was evident he was 'cared' for on any level). My bet is they just let him loose to become someone else’s problem. They threw away a damn fine dog, though. Duke is housetrained and non-destructive alone in the house. He displays NO aggression to anything—food, toys, attention, kids, animals big and small. He is very Velcro. The woman who found him is a certified dog trainer from Germany and she states he is “one of the most perfect dogs ever.” That is certainly a glowing review of a dog who had every right to be a scared, nasty mess. Instead he loves everyone he meets. She turned him over to RescueAngel Jean of Canine Rescue in South Carolina—who loves him already and has turned to SND for some help with one of our own. Because, of course, I wouldn’t be writing this if nothing were wrong with Duke. He is heartworm positive (big surprise, right?). He also has a large new/old wound on his left hip. It reopens every time he moves and is going to be a real challenge to heal. He also has a wound on his right, front leg that appears to be healing but is still swollen, although the hair has begun to regrow on it. Obviously he needs some medical care and some time to heal, but he will be a wonderful boy to bring home, won’t he? Someone will be very lucky! Won’t you join Canine Rescue in their fight to help this boy? Let’s show them we do take care for our own! You can begin helping sweet Duke by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (make it a gift) or by mailing one in. No amount would be too small to help this great guy and every penny would go right to his bill! THANK YOU!! Carol Belknap, Case Manager for The Duke!!

Thea!

October, 2016:  Thea is a 5 year old southern beauty, strayed right out of Georgia and into the loving arms of South West Ohio Doberman Rescue. She obviously has had many puppies in her short life—but that situation will be ‘fixed’ soon! Like almost all of the dogs coming from the south, she is heartworm positive—and we all know how I feel about that! So I am here to speak for Thea, and her need for treatment. Sweet Melissa says she is one of those Dobie-girls you can’t help but love. On her trip north, she got to spend a few hours with Melissa’s crew and got along great! Sweet n’ sassy, but plays well with others. I guess you could say she’s a typical Dober-girl who wants lots of love! Melissa thinks she’s going to make someone a great companion—once the deadly worms are gone. That is where the Doberman community comes in - you are the people who, like me, feel a personal victory with every beautiful Doberman saved. Please join SWODR and SND in this battle for Thea. You may begin helping her by clicking on the PayPal button, declaring it a gift helps even more! You may also mail one in. You are the people with the power to fight this war we may never win… and we at SND appreciate your continued support! Thank you so much! Carol Belknap, Case Manager and big SWODR fan!!

Dalton!

October, 2016:  At only a year or so old, Dalton is just a kid. A silly, goofy kid - with heartworms. The Angels at South West Ohio Doberman Rescue sprung him from a shelter in Dalton, Georgia and hence the name… Hey, you try naming all the forgotten darlings they have over the years!! He was a stray so we can only know what he tells us — and that is pure Dalton himself. He has the patented Doberman lean down, well, PAT! Gotta love those leaners! He’s great with kids, cats and other dogs with the exception of bossy female Dobies getting in his face! Hey, a guy has got to have his limits, right? Someone is going to have a silly-sweet goofus with much love and leans to go around once these nasty worms are gone. Please join SWODR and SND in the fight to get him healthy again. Please help him get the “bad” part of his life behind him so the good times can roll! You can begin helping Dalton by clicking on the PayPal button to the right; declaring it a gift gives him even more! You can also mail one in. As always, every penny will go to Dalton! I would like to thank you for your continued support of our wonderful SNDobies!!! Carol Belknap, Case Manager for Dalton. Gotham!

October 7, 2016: With heavy hearts we are so sorry to tell you that dear Gotham died last night apparently of heart failure.  In the end, all he had been through was more than his body could handle.  At least, at the very least, at the end of his life he enjoyed the loving hands of people showing him gentleness and love. He will be remembered with love... Rest in the peace you hardly knew when you were here - Good night Sweet Prince... another bright star twinkling in the Night Sky.
October, 2016
:  Meet Gotham! Perhaps he's 4 years old? What he is for sure was abandoned and picked up as a stray.  He had a horrendous fracture of his femur and had to languish with his leg becoming more and more swollen until his stray hold was up! Enter the BatLadies from Doberman Pinscher Rescue in California.  He is microchipped but so what? Nobody wanted him back - he was broken!  Cropped, docked, neutered and nice... what's NOT to want?? The RescueAngels from DPR wants and takes all the broken ones they can!  They took him immediately to their vet who repaired the fracture, casted and splinted this poor Dude along with pain killers and antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection.  Lucky Dude!  Not so lucky the budget at DPR as you can guess.  Poor Gotham has a case of separation anxiety but who wouldn't in his condition??  Given away by his first people to others who also didn't want him and then sustain a full fracture of a femur??  Hit by a car? No outward signs of that but this break is evidence of some real trauma to be sure.  He's now recuperating under the watchful eyes of people who really care for him and he's allowed to lounge on his own bed rather than in a crate to keep him calmer and reassured.  When there are people who do care - not unlike you we hope, the next step is to begin healing Gotham and his bills clicking on the PayPal button to the right, or by mailing one in. Every penny, 100% will used for Gotham's expenses and remember, no amount is ever too small, or unappreciated!! If you want an even closer look at newest Poster Dude, please take a look:  http://www.doberman911.org/. THANK YOU very!! SND Case Management Team.

Savannah!

September, 2016:  No one knows how old Savannah is except Savannah, and a lady never tells! The shelter guessed 4 but a vet said 6—so pick a number! Savannah was a stray in South Carolina. She was heartworm positive so she was put on the euthanasia list at the county Animal Shelter. Georgia Doberman Rescue managed to save her before the landslide of Dobermans hit the SC scene. Right now in South Carolina, due to the enormous number of Dobermans in need from puppy mill breeder seizure, beds and services are hard to come by. GDR contacted Cindy Landis of Doberman Underground. Although Cindy had already taken in 8 dogs from the SC seizure, she accepted Savannah. She had already been spayed and what’s one more heartworm case? Just another day, that’s what it is… Only it wasn’t in this case. She had her first heartworm treatment 9/21 and was released on the 23rd. Her back was swollen, not unusual with the arsenic-based immiticide injection and dying heartworm toxins - and she was feeling poorly. Overnight she took a turn for the worse and was having trouble walking. The ER was closed, DU’s vet was closed also, so off they went to MedVet in Columbus, Ohio. As the day progressed she began exhibiting paralysis, first in one hind leg and then the other. She was diagnosed as septic and had a temperature of 105°. They had no idea where the infection was coming from and she was admitted to Critical Care. The first antibiotic didn’t help so they switched to a broader spectrum, which unfortunately didn’t help either. At this point the vets felt it was an inflammation of the spine - spinal empyema. Cindy did not give up and, like she always does, she fought for this girl. An abscess on her spine was drained. She was given a 50/50 chance of survival. Through all this Savannah still looked good, was bright and trying to remove that stupid IV line. Cindy fought on, they kept draining and cleaning the abscess and finally something worked and she turned a corner. She showed dramatic improvement, even walking a bit with some assistance. That sound you hear is NOT ringing in your ears - it is the echoing cash register sounds from MedVet - almost $6K worth!!  Savannah is home with Cindy by now and they will continue the fight together. Won’t you join in too? Help Doberman Underground and SND in getting this girl back on her feet and ready for a real home with a loving forever family! You may begin to help Savannah by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, or by mailing one in. Every penny will go to this poor girl and no amount is ever too small, or unappreciated!! Cricket!

September, 2016: Super sweet Cricket is a Senior DobeLady at 7 years old - you may have seen her on our Seniors page. She is also a victim of the dreaded heartworm. Perhaps because her owners kept her outside. Always. All seven long years, with mosquitoes bringing her their lethal gifts. She was the product of these same people thinking a gate was enough between dogs during heat—need I say more? They dumped her because they moved into the city and they were deathly afraid she would be stolen from their fenced yard. Their paranoia was truly her salvation as she came to the Angels at South West Ohio Doberman Rescue. Cricket will now live indoors, have her heartworm treated and be spayed! She LOVES living inside and is slowly becoming less timid. She also loves kids, cats, dogs—you name it! Melissa says she is so sweet, she just does not want to hurt anything at all. She is just looking for some love! Here’s where you can show her some love and help her get “clean”. Please join South West Ohio Doberman Rescue and SND in loving her up! No donation is too small and it will all go to Cricket! You may begin to help Cricket by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (if you use PayPal and your account allows, please make it a friends and family gift to help even more!). You may also mail one in. However you choose to help, please remember how much your help and support of our SNDobies is appreciated!!! Baby
Bandit!

September , 2016:  Precious Baby Bandit, so young at only 12 weeks old, has already had a devastating blow to his fragile body. No one has details, all we know is that he was hit by a car and turned into the Fresno, California animal shelter to be destroyed. A rescue friend of the angels of Dobies and Little Paws contacted the rescue as soon as she heard of Baby Bandit - she then sprung into action by getting him released from the shelter and set off with the little guy to her area vet. Poor Baby Bandit had a terribly fractured left femur, and a temperature of 104. He was given IV fluids and supportive care until he was taken via a late night transport to a vet who could provide the expertise this delicate surgery would require. Due to the quick action of everyone involved, Bandit had his surgery first thing the following morning! His little leg was pinned to hold the fracture in place and he was also fitted with a splint to stabilize the surgical site. Emergent care, and especially emergent surgery, is always an additional expense (especially in California no less), therefore the RescueAngels of Dobies and Little Paws have requested our assistance with Baby Bandit's medical expenses. You can help defray Baby Bandit's surgery and aftercare fees by sending a tax deductible gift by either postal mail or PayPal (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'family and friends' tab to keep your donation fee free!) NO amount is ever too small! And remember, every cent goes directly toward the medical care of the Dobe you choose to support. From the volunteers at SND and Dobies and Little Paws, and especially the Dobermans you help us save, we are truly grateful for your continued support!!  If you want an even closer look at Baby Bandit and his formerly shattered leg. please take a look at our latest Poster Dude here:  http://www.doberman911.org/. Jason!

August, 2016:  This cutie is 3 year old Jason. Sadly, we can’t tell you much about him or his life—even though he was a “family” dog. You would think his "family" would have had some little thing to say about his years with them, wouldn’t you? Nothing, they just dumped him off… "Here, take him. We’re having a baby instead.” Of course Toni and Melissa of South West Ohio Doberman Rescue took him! It’s really a blessing for Jason, though, as he is heartworm positive and wouldn’t have gotten treatment at home with his "family" who didn't bother with HW preventative. Surprised?? Jason is getting an accelerated version of heartworm treatment as he is young and has a light load of those nasty buggers. There will be only one treatment! After a few weeks and a re-check, he’ll be cleared for neuter—followed by a loving forever home if fate is as kind as it has been separating him from his former people! Melissa says he is very quiet and clean and has no real issues with other dogs. She thinks he will be an awesome family dog for someone! So, here I am asking the Doberman community to pitch in and help another heartworm victim. Please join South West Ohio Doberman Rescue and SND in getting Jason ready for the long, happy life he deserves. You may begin to help by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (if using PayPal and you have the right add-ons in your account, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!). You may also mail one in. Please remember every penny goes to the dogs! I would like to thank you, personally, for the ongoing support you have provided to these poor, needy Dobes that no one has cared about—until YOU! Larry!

August, 2016:  Take a look at Larry!  A very tall, very sweet young Doberboy rescued from Monterey County's Salinas animal shelter in California. We don't know much about him, only that he is about 1 1/2 years old and has a lame rear leg which is the reason the shelter had him listed as "rescue only" as they knewhoped a rescue would get him the help he needed. That's when Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore stepped in. They were lucky to have Pilots and Paws step in to get him from the shelter to DPR. P&P is a non profit organization that transports dogs to rescues around the country. They are pilots who love to fly and they love dogs. A win-win for rescues and for dogs!! True angels! Larry was very well behaved on the flight and was content to sit quietly and look out the window. Larry was taken to the rescue's vet on for X-rays and diagnosis on his lame rear leg. A dislocation was suspected as he could not bear weight on that leg which was just dangling from the hip joint. X-rays revealed a dislocation of a very old injury, so old that it could not be put back into the socket. The vet recommended an FHO surgery (femoral head osteotomy), which would remove the femoral head or ball that fits into the hip socket. Muscle eventually fills in around the area to support the joint and leg - the only other alternative would have been amputation. Most dogs do very well with this surgery and once healed are able to run and play as normal. His surgery is scheduled August 17. The rescue hasn't had Larry long enough to really get to know his personality due to his injury and the fact that he has been on crate rest since he arrived. He also hasn't interacted with other dogs because of his injury. But from all they have seen, they do know he is a very sweet boy. Larry is underweight, but gaining every day now that he has people to care for him. They have no idea how long he was homeless, so I am sure he is enjoying all the love and attention he is getting now. If you can help the rescue with Larry's surgery and care it would be so much appreciated. The sooner he gets fixed up the sooner he can find a good forever home. So, please do whatever you can to help and Larry will send sloppy kisses to all! You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or mailing in a donation (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!). No amount is too small, thank you! If you want an even closer look at Mr. Larry, take a look at our latest Poster Dude here:  http://www.doberman911.org/. Scout!

August, 2016: Scout was a Craig’s List dog until one of the Angels from Doberman Underground saved her. She came from an outdoor kennel in the middle of nowhere Kentucky. The owners were getting rid of her because she would not breed to a pit bull. SCOUT IS ONLY 14 MONTHS OLD!!! She’s still just a puppy! I’m not sure what is going through your mind right now, but I know what I think about these people… At least she is safe now - safe AND spayed! Unfortunately her troubles aren’t over yet. What seemed to be a simple UTI has been preliminarily diagnosed as Cushing’s Disease and life still isn’t easy for little Scouty Pouty Pants, as DU affectionately calls her. That expensive specter of treatment for Cushing's is looming. We all know how dedicated and determined Cindy is when it comes to damaged Dobes—and she has no intention of giving up on Scout! Please join Doberman Underground and SND in the quest to help Scout find a more comfortable life. You may begin helping Scout right now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!). GOOD NEWSFLASH!! Miss Scout's diagnosis is in and the verdict is diabetes insipidus! Long-term treatment and prognosis are fantastic and much less financially nightmarish - the steps leading to diagnosis were NOT cheap and she will need all of us to pitch in and help get her treatment started, stabilized on her way to a happy life!!

Bruce!

July, 2016: Meet Mr. Bruce - that's what the RescueAngels at San Antonio Doberman Rescue are calling this latest abandoned Dobe under their wings.  A beautiful cropped and docked black male who is guessed to be around 5 years of age.  I guess they could have called him Dunkin' or Donuts as that is where he was abandoned - with collar and lead still on him but no ID.  He was pretty skinny, limping and apparently pretty sick.  Luckily, he was spotted by a kind young lady who took him to her aunt's back yard as her aunt was out of town.  When her aunt returned home, she began seeking advice and help to get Bruce some medical attention.   He did appear pretty sick and couldn't put weight on his legs - perhaps hit by a car? By the time our SADAR Angels got their hands on him, he was urinating blood.  Off to the vet and back with antibiotics - he was too weak to even have x-rays of his rear.  He has improved some and will return to the vet for further diagnoses as soon as possible. So, in almost 15 years of seeing and trying to help Dobermans, the one rhetorical question that recurs...  HOW?? HOW can people do things like this?  We won't try and answer that question but feel free to come up with your own answers... And then please... resolve to help Bruce, SADAR and SND get this brave Doberman well and able to find the perfect forever home he's always deserved to have.  Please begin helping Bruce by making a donation using the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!). There's no such thing as an amount too small to help!  And, every penny will go toward Bruce's rehab! We are all VERY grateful for your help and support! Thank you! SND Case Management Team.

Gucci!

July, 2016 UPDATE: Dear Gucci had really been thriving in the care of the DMR Angels but his original issues had not really resolved completely. Acupuncture, cold laser and manipulation treatments had definitely helped, but he obviously still had what appeared to be spinal issues.  DMR felt it would be best for Gucci to undergo MRI and neuorology consult to avoid exacerbating an issue that could only deteriorate.  Well, it's California folks and prices show it!  Well, almost $3500 later, cervical issues were revealed however, it was decided to postpone radical surgeries for now to see how quickly they might worsen.  That's right - we are back asking for your help for Gucci and DMR - they went the very extra long mile for Gucci, can we all dig a bit deeper and do the same for them?  YES WE CAN!!  Feast your eyes on our repeat Poster Dude here http://www.doberman911.org.  See instructions for donating below and THANK YOU!!
May, 2016
: This delightful heartthrob is 6 year old Gucci, a much loved resident of the RescueAngels of Dog Mountain Rescue in California. Gucci was surrendered by a woman who loved him and saved him when she spotted him listed on Craig's List. However, Gucci proved to be too much of a handful for apartment living, and he was surrendered to Dog Mountain. Doing the right thing for Gucci was the right thing to do after all!! Sweet Gucci was doing just fine when one day, he suddenly yelped in pain. He stood with his neck twisted and fell, unable to get back up. Immediately, he was rushed to the veterinarian, where he was prescribed anti-inflammatories and limited physical activity. His pain abated almost instantly, and a very close eye has been kept on him to prevent any horseplay on his part. Fast forward to two weeks later... Still comfortable and well-adapted to limited activity, Gucci again suddenly whimpered in pain. Ann decided to bring Gucci for a neurology consult.  The neurologist spent a good deal of time poking, prodding and examining our boy... and came up with nothing in the way of a troublesome diagnosis. Gucci's neck anatomy is exactly where is should be and there are no signs of injury or disease. He has continued on his anti-inflammatory medications, but his neurologist feels an MRI would tell them nothing. At this time then, the best course of action is for Gucci to see an acupuncturist. Dog Mountain Rescue now is in need of funds to get this dear boy the appropriate therapy he needs to get back to being his delightful self. He's among the many wonderful Dobes and other dogs Ann has taken under her wing and saved from uncertain futures. Look at this heart melting face and know that by donating to Gucci at SND, you'll soon see him feeling better and dancing and playing with his many friends at Dog Mountain Rescue. You all know that no donation is too small to help a whole lot - 100%!! Jasper!

June, 2016: For all of his 4 years Jasper lived quietly with his elderly owner, perhaps not the ideal life for a young Dober-boy, but it worked—and was the only life he knew… Then his 78 year old owner began trying to surrender him to rescue. The owner had decided to go back to his homeland to die among family. Leaving his Jasper was hard - and, no one seemed to want him and he luckily was able to get under the loving wings of Dog Mountain Rescue though he had to be placed in a kennel initially. Poor Jasper didn’t do well in kennel conditions. He became so stressed out he chewed the end off of his tail. A foster was found for him and a vet wrapped up his poor tail. Things should have improved, and, in fact, he did seem to get along a little better. Then came time for a different vet to look at the tail and it was discovered the first vet hadn’t done a very good job. The first vet had blunt cut it without leaving flesh and skin to regrow over the bone. Jasper required another surgery to remove enough more of the tail to close the injury and allow it to heal. If he continues to chew, he may lose even more so let’s hope he’s a good boy! While at the vet’s office it was found he was running a fever; examination revealed a red, swollen web between his toes. They tried to track it but lost the track and couldn’t go any further; the cause remains unknown. He is “home” now, on antibiotics, antiinflammatories and tramadol for pain and seems to be feeling better. Jasper is a really nice Dobe.  He's pleasant, friendly and engaging, if perhaps not exactly a stud muffin, still deserving of a forever home and a family he is truly a part of… forever. Please consider helping with Jasper’s medical expenses. You may begin helping Jasper by making a gift donation using the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!). No amount of help is too small when it comes to helping and every penny goes to the dogs! We at SND are continually grateful for your help and support! Thank you! Carol Belknap, SND Case Manager and Jasper fan.

Golondrina!

June, 2016: We are always amazed that someone could have a beautiful creature in their lives, give them a name that is breathtaking and demonstrates love... and then dump them at a city pound. Golondrina means swallow in Spanish; the birds that return to Capistrano in the Spring to delight all creatures. When beautiful Golondrina suddenly went down and couldn't walk, her owners waited 2-3 weeks and then unceremoniously dumped her at the Bakersfield CA pound, telling the intake workers she was about 2 years old. As awful as this was, Golondrina was soon discovered by the angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, CA and our spring swallow was scooped up into the loving arms of DPR, REA (Rescue Angels Extraordinaire). Initially, it was thought - due to her recorded age - that CVI (Wobbler's Disease) was not a possibility, but upon a visit to their wonderful vet, Dr. Rivera, her age was discovered to be more likely around 6, and lo and behold - she was diagnosed with Wobbler's. The good doctor gave Golondrina a course of IV steroid anti-inflammatory medications - and our beautiful swallow is standing and starting to haltingly walk!! She is now in DPR's loving care and she is improving every day. In the near future, Golondrina will receive cold laser treatment and acupuncture to improve and strengthen her. Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore has so many Dobes that have been cast off and need help. This remarkable rescue has saved more Dobermans than anyone can count, and it's raining Dobermans in CA. They have come to SND again for financial assistance with Golondrina's substantial veterinary bills, and we are ready to assist them in this noble and wonderful mission. THEY CAN'T DO IT BY THEMSELVES AND... WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DO THIS!! Please, every cent counts and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you played a part in helping beautiful Golondrina recover and find a home where she'll be treasured forever. You can mail your gift or click on the PayPal link button on the right (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!) 100% of all donations go directly to the vet treating the Dobie. SND, DPR and Justice thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity!Thank you, and enjoy watching this magic swallow walk, run and thrive anew! Les Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - watching the swallow return to happiness!

Archie!

June, 2016: The gorgeous guy you see pictured to the left is Archie! This sweet fellow was located in a high kill Pennsylvania shelter where his intake record had him listed as a stray - and so as is the case with so many, we have no history on him whatsoever. However unlikely, being dumped in that awful shelter actually turned out to be Archie's saving grace, for this is where the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA found him which led to his freedom and ultimately his sorely needed medical care. By exam, he is still fairly young, approximately 3 - 5 yrs old. He is emaciated, coming in at about 25 lbs underweight, and has patchy calluses on his hips, ears and legs which is indicative of an extended period of time, most likely years, lying on hard surfaces. Archie also has a suspicious, fleshy mass that needs to be surgically removed and biopsied. Even though we have no idea what Archie's past life actually entailed, there is no question that to end up homeless and in such poor physical condition, he'd been unloved and neglected for quite some time. DPRPA is going to provide the surgical treatment and follow up care that should've already been taken care of by his so called previous 'family'. This brings DPRPA to the SND Family for assistance in providing the funds needed for the lumpectomy and biopsy for Archie. The DVDPA Rescue Angels tell us that Archie loves to be with people and cuddle and is extremely grateful for his new lease on life. We all know rescues rely on donations to survive and they have ongoing, never ending medical debt. Let's pull together and get Archie the help he needs and deserves to become completely well and reach the ultimate goal of moving on to his future furever home. Just click on the link below for instructions on how make your tax deductible donation. This can be done postal mail or by using PayPal. (If using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' then the 'friends and family' tab to keep your gift *fee free*.)  DPRPA and the SND Case Management Team thank you for your ongoing support! Tequila!

June, 2016: We don't usually think of a lovely young Doberman when we think of Tequila, but like an empty Tequila bottle this girl was thrown away! Five year old (?) Tequila became a ward of San Diego Department of Animal Services. She had a badly broken leg and no "loving family" came forward to claim her. Animal Services reached out to Lisa from Last Chance at Life Rescue and, of course, they took her in their all-loving arms. Poor Tequila finally got a chance at some medical assistance! She had a mid-radial fracture, as well as a fractured ulna of her right front leg. There is no way of knowing how long she suffered before she was saved by these Angels! Thankfully she was saved in time to save the leg! This girl is super sweet; with all the pain she was in, with all the strangers and stress—this girl lovingly took care of a puppy who was transported with her. I hear it was very sweet to see and I’m sure caused a few damp eyes and smiles at the beauty of the Doberman character we all know so well. Tequila has had orthopedic surgery and now has 2 plates and 11 screws securing her fractures and so far so good with her recovery. She is still in the care of Last Chance at Life All Breed Rescue for her continuing care and recovery. As you can imagine this is a very expensive surgery and your help is needed to help this wonderful rescue who stepped up to help this beautiful DobeGirlie! When an all-breed rescue steps up for one of ours, how could we not help?? Although she is now safe and on the mend, she still needs to heal before she can find her forever home—and we hope it’s a good one - the one she always deserved! We don't have a lot more information on Tequila, but we do know she is worth every dime! And these RescueAngels also deserve our help for all the great work they do so that these less fortunate dogs are given a second chance at love and life. Thank you for any help you can give us and Tequila. You may begin helping Tequila by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Please know that NO donation is too small to help a whole lot - 100%!! Lego!

May, 2016: Shelter - shel-ter; A place that provides food and protection for people or animals that need assistance. This beautiful baby is now known as Lego, as he was an abandoned puppy picked up by animal control after a nasty confrontation with a car. He was taken to the local shelter with an obvious compound fracture to his front leg, where he languished - untreated and alone - until his "stray hold" was up. Thankfully, someone at the shelter called Dobes and Little Paws Rescue and Lego's luck rapidly changed. However, because his poor leg was left untreated for days on end, amputation was necessary. Is this the "shelter's" fault?  NO, it is the idiotic careless owner protection LAWS in place that is responsible for a new three-legged dog - and he's lucky he wasn't just "destroyed." How can anyone imagine sitting in a cage with a broken leg for days on end in a publically funded facility to suffer?? This baby is only 8 months old at the most and has seen more apathy and loneliness then most people... he could have died due to necrosis if not for the RescueAngels of Dobes and Little Paws. Lego is recovering nicely now and is a quick study in Doberman Resilience; he's a happy, beautiful baby and is sure to find a loving home when he is fully recovered. It goes without saying that his surgery was incredibly expensive - but his prognosis is excellent. Dobes and Little Paws Rescue has placed Lego in a loving, experienced foster home, where he is getting all the attention, love, food and toys he needs. SND is assisting this wonderful Rescue - they have been INUNDATED with expensive medical cases lately and now have the financial burden of Lego's surgery. Please, please, find it in your generous hearts to tell all your associates, family and friends to send a contribution for Lego's care. Every cent counts and will be used to help Dobes and Little Paws so they can continue to save lives like adorable Lego's. Please know that NO donation is too small to help a whole lot - 100%!! Just click on the PayPal link on the right or you can mail your tax deductible gift (if using PayPal please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab to keep your donation 'fee free'). Justice!

May, 2016: The gorgeous 14 month old you see before you is Justice, relinquished by her owner to the RescueAngels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, Californis. Justice's previous person said her living condition had changed so Justice had to "go" plus she was unable to afford care for Justice's 'skin condition' - we think somebody needs a "priority adjustment!" That skin condition was demodectic mange (tiny mites that reside and feed on the dogs hair and oil glands of the skin causing severe itching and scratching, bleeding skin, pain and loss of hair which, without treatment, only continues to worsen)! Can you even try to imagine how that would feel... constant itching and scratching with no relief ever? Now, add another diagnosis to the mange which would be entropion eyelids (eylids rolling into the cornea causing all lashes on that lid to rub against the eye causing consistant pain and possible blindness if not treated). So on top of relentless itching, Justice also had constant pain in her eyes!! Poor, suffering Justice. Even though DPR has had so very many medical cases coming to them, they vowed to get Justice some justice and the treatment she needed to move on and live the rest of her life happy and painfree!! As we all know, treatment comes at a cost and especially in California. No one wants to ever see any Dobe turned away from rescue because of lack of funds so let us all put our tax free donations together to help DPR which in turn will enable them to continue their rescue efforts. NO amount is ever to small! Every donation of any amount adds up! You can mail your gift or click on the PayPal link button on the right (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!) 100% of all donations go directly to the vet treating the Dobie. SND, DPR and Justice thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity! Beth McCahren, Case Manager for Justice - THIS justice will NOT be blind because of entropion!

Sherman!

May, 2016: Even though Sherman is only two, it’s probably been a long two years. He had a severe case of demodectic mange AND bilateral entropion which could have been an abnormaility at birth or could have been caused by the sometimes extreme disfiguration caused by mange. It’s hard to say how long the mange had been with him and the mange was in an advanced stage. Wherever he started out, he wound up in a Sacramento shelter. They did try to help him, putting him into a foster home away from the stress of a kennel, but that didn’t work out for long. Luck finally went his way as the RescueAngels from Doberman Pinscher Rescue took him in, finally starting him on the road to comfort and health. After a couple months to rebuild his immune system and get a grip on the mange, he finally had his entropion surgery this week and came through with flying colors. I am positive he is more comfortable now than he has been in his entire life!!! You know how it feels when ONE eyelash gets in your eye... imagine ALL your eyelashes turned inward scratching away at your cornea - hard, eh? Please join DPR and SND in their commitment to his health and life. He deserves to be happy, doesn’t he? There is a forever home out there somewhere for a young, red boy! You can begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, making it a gift helps even more (to keep your donation 'fee free', please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab).! You may also mail one in. Every RED cent will help this sweet RED boy heal! As always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies! Thank you!! Londo!

May, 2016: Hello my friends, it is raining Dobes! I wish I could take them all, but I can't so I am here again asking for your help.  Meet a Senior Guy, Londo! He is a beautiful 8 year old who lives in California with Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. He was originally rescued from an animal shelter and has been in rescue for years. He is a sweet, wonderful guy who has been a favorite of volunteers for all of the years he has been there. A little over a month ago our RescueAngels at the ranch noticed Londo was not feeling well, his lower jaw and neck were swollen and his eyes were red along with the third eyelid partially covering one eye. First they thought he had been stung by bees, but the swelling persisted along with lethargy and difficulty eating. Dental problems were also ruled out . After extensive testing ruled out several other illnesses, it was finally determined that Londo has Ehrilichiosis. All of us with dogs know how expensive testing can be, especially when it takes several different tests to reach a correct diagnosis. Doberman Pinscher Rescue needs a little help with the finances for diagnostics, treatment and recovery for this wonderful guy. Hopefully all of us along with SND can make this happen for Londo and his Angels. For your information here is a little about Ehrlichiosis - Ehrlichia is a type of bacteria that can infect dogs and other species, causing a disease called Ehrlichiosis. This disease is caused by ticks infected with the bacteria. The bacteria infect white blood cells. Symptoms and severity of illness depends on the species of Ehrlicia involved and the immune response of the dog. Treatment is with doxycycline. Illness can last for years in different stages and sometimes require blood transfusions. Please help us with a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or by mailing in your donation. (If using PayPal, to keep your donation 'fee free', please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab). ! Want an even closer look at our handsome Sir Londo?  You can visit him here and also to choose to Sponsor Londo on his own page http://www.doberman911.org/seniors/cases/ca_londo.html! Dear Londo and DPR thank you as do we!! Nancy Harwood , Case Manager for Londo!!

Helga!

May, 2016: Helga is an all-natural Girlie who, at only a year and a half, has been around the block. No one knows where she started out, but her known history started at a shelter in Kentucky. From there she went to an all-breed rescue in Ohio. They adopted her out to a family with 3 small children. That “forever” family decided puppy-Helga was too rough on the kids. No training, no effort, just pitch the puppy. For some reason they returned her to the shelter in Kentucky instead of the rescue in Ohio. So she was basically back where she started from but with more of life’s knocks. Her luck changed when sweet Melissa scooped her up and she became a South West Ohio Doberman Rescue member. Toni, Melissa and all the wonderful Angels there are determined to make the rest of her life a good one. I shouldn’t be writing this story, a healthy, young, spayed girl, whatever could be wrong? Well, for one thing, my nemesis, heartworms. Assuming the “rescue” had vetted her was a big mistake - you know about assuming things, right? No one would produce any vaccination records so she is starting from the ground up with everything she should have behind her. Plus the heartworms, let’s not forget them. SWODR and SND are committed to helping her—and I hope you will too. I know—I’m coming to you with yet another heartworm dog—and I’ll probably be back next week with the same plea for someone else—but please help!! You can begin helping Helga by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, declaring it a gift; or you may mail one in. Every penny you donate will go straight to the dogs! No amount is too small, no amount of Dober-love refused!!! As always I would like to thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies!!!! Thank You!! Leba!

May, 2016: Beautiful, 6 year old Leba has lived a life of physical neglect - no routine health check ups, no immunizations and of course, no heartworm preventative treatment. Need I say she is heartworm positive???? Another case of heartworms because of ignorance, neglect or ____ (you fill in the blank if you can think of an appropriate adjective)!! Leba was living in a motel room with her 'owner' and 2 little girls, and the small amount money that was available was used to support, shall we say, a destructive habit. Naturally, that left Leba last on the list of priorities for anything, even food! Thankfully, Leba was surrendered to Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania. DPRPA has been in inundated with vet expenses this year to the point they almost had to turn Leba away, but the RescueAngels of DPRPA just couldn't say no to this sweet girl. Leba is now in a caring environment and we're told is happy, well behaved and "just adorable!!." We all know treating heartworms isn't an option, it's literally a life saving necessity especially in areas of high infestation - which most of the country is now. What is so inexpensive to prevent is very costly to treat and not an easy cure for any dog who is effected and has to go through having to be injected with arsenic-containing immiticide. We don't want to see any rescue have to turn a Dobe away because of lack of funds, therefore, we need to band together, our SND community, and support our rescues with our tax deductible donations. Leba would've lost her life due to to heartworms if the DPRPA angels hadn't taken a leap of faith that we, as caring Dobie lovers, could assist their rescue with Leba's treatment. You can mail your donation in or your can use PayPal with the button on the right (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'fee free'.) Thank you for your continued support for without YOU there is no US!! NO amount is ever too small and 100% of your caring will go to the Leba Fund. Beth McCahren, Case Manager for Leba!!

Harlow!

May 16, 2016: All your good wishes and energy for Miss Harlow has pulled her through!!  She was released back to her FosterFamily and proceeded to decorate the family couch with an appropriate supply of blankets and pillows!!  This Girlie seems on the mend and will be watched closely as you can imagine.  She's not totally out of the forest but great strides have been made!!  A weekend in Critical Care is not inexpensive so keep those good wishes and $$ coming!!  THANK YOU SWODR and thank YOU too!!
May, 2016
: Harlow (nee Kilo) was purchased as a small pup, with the bright, exciting life ahead of her that all Dobe pups should have… Then the owners were unable to housebreak her. That’s their story anyway - I think they were just your typical new puppy dumbasses. So, of course, the puppy paid for her/their stupidity by living outside in a pen; she was 6 months old at the time. They claimed to have taken her to numerous vets to treat the lick granuloma she developed - claiming each time it cleared up with antibiotics, and then the leg would swell again. Somehow during these alleged vet trips, heartworm prevention never happened. Such a stupid, neglectful omission! They did spay her and then got her a male Rottweiler to keep her company (he probably has heartworms too) but still didn’t address her health issues. When she was 4, they decided they couldn’t afford to treat her leg and the newly found heartworms so bye-bye Kilo - finally!! She caught a break if you can call her condition a break - but compared to her past, well it's relative... She came to Toni, Melissa and the loving Angels of South West Ohio Doberman Rescue, was reborn Miss Harlow, and an instant favorite!!! Her foster-mom took her home with the intention of forever… then she became ill after her first heartworm treatment - it is arsenic after all… and now she is in an oxygen tent under 24/7 watch. Poor Harlow has lung issues, but it was decided she would be ok to treat as this could have been related to the HW issue - only she wasn’t. She is struggling to live. Please stay tuned for updates from sweet Melissa and pray for Harlow! Melissa saved the best of Harlow’s story for last. Soon after surrendering her to rescue, the former owner called in tears, begging for her return.  We'll let you guess what Melissa's reply was!! Please, please consider joining SWODR and SND in the fight to save Harlow. It is now much, much more expensive than that little monthly pill would have been, and the Doberman community are the ones left holding the bill. Help!! No amount is too small, no help too little, Harlow will appreciate it all. You can start helping Harlow by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (if using PayPal please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab to keep your donation 'fee free'), or you can mail one in. Cody!

May, 2016: Another sweet old gentleman Dobe who needs a little help! Surprised?  Nyahhh... this is the Age of Disposables of whatever you don't want anymore...  In this case it's dear Cody, a 10 (YES, TEN) year old Doberman who was surrendered to Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania a few weeks ago and is in need of help with some dental issues. Cody was surrendered when his owner had to move across the country to care for aging parents. The community where the parents live does not allow pets. Cody is a sweet, lovely Senior Dude with a fantastic disposition. Due to his dental issues he has to be fed soft food, as you can imagine. He has at least four teeth that have to be removed, one of which has a hole all the way through it. I can't even imagine the pain and discomfort he must be in! I also can't imagine having to give up my 10 year old "pet," but at least he is in Rescue and not in a shelter where old souls, especially Dobermans, are in many cases routinely disposed of... We don't know much at all about Cody, but we do know he deserves a good and safe place to live out the rest of his life and that the rest of his time should be pain free. The condition of his mouth and his mandarin length nails, curled under, speak volumes about the kind of care he had in his past life. His vet expenses for a pre-op work-up and the tooth extractions could end up being an expensive hit on these RescueAngels' budget as you can guess. I hope we can count on all of our Dobe-loving friends here to help us with Cody's vet bill and in turn help the RescueAngels of DPRPA. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for caring about this sweet old gentleman who is in this situation through no fault of his own. Thanks to all of our friends out there who sacrifice for our sweet Dobes. You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or mailing in your donation. (If using PayPal please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab to keep your donation 'fee free'). NO amount is ever too small and every cent you give to Cody will go to the Cody Fund Dental Fund - 100%. Nancy Harwood, Case Manager for Cody!!

Ranger!

April, 2016:This adorable DoberDude is Ranger. At only 15 months old he's still just a baby but has already been cursed with deadly heartworms. San Antonio Doberman Advocacy & Rescue rushed to Ranger's side following a call they received from Ranger's owner stating her husband was taking Ranger to the county pound because "he gets out and plays with the goats next door. He doesn't hurt them, he just plays but the neighbor said he would shoot Ranger the next time it happens." Well as the Church Lady used to say:  "Isn't that SPECIAL!" The SADAR RescueAngels know from experience that any Doberman this particular pound gets their hands on is automatically killed with NO exceptions. SADAR pleaded with the owners to meet them along the highway and they would take Ranger, but Ranger went to the county pound anyway. When the pound admitted they definitely would kill him, the highway meeting was then arranged. Ranger arrived along the road in the back of a pick up truck filled with trash! He was terrified and too afraid to move. In fact, he had to be lifted out of the trash - lifted from the van into his kenel and never moved for 3 days! On the third day he finally stood but was still too afraid to let anyone near. It was obvious to his RescueAngels that he had been beaten in the past. They understood what Ranger needed and after 6 long weeks of love and patience, Ranger is now a happy boy. He still needs to go through his heartworm treatment though. SADAR has taken in THREE heartworm positive Dobes of late and they really need our help with these very costly treatments. Ranger has this last step to take before he can be adopted into his forever home. Won't you please join us in providing assistance for SADAR and Ranger, Sheba and Paxton? Most Texas rescues don't take on heartworm positive dogs simply because of the high cost of treatment and long internment aftercare, but SADAR won't turn their backs on them. So lets band together and send in our donations. NO amount is ever too small and every cent goes to the Dobes!! Just click on the PayPal link on the right or you can mail your tax deductible gift (if using PayPal please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab to keep your donation 'fee free'). Sheba!

April, 2016: It was just an ordinary day when a bystander watched a car stop along a busy street. A man got out and then got a dog out too. He then proceeded to take the collar off the dog, get back in the car and drive away. Maybe he kept the collar for a new dog? Regardless, the poor dog chased the car as long as she was able, and at 3 years old, that may have been quite a way. She then returned to the dump spot and waited all day long for him to come back… Eventually the bystander called a friend who happened to be a Vet Tech. She called the RescueAngels of San Antonio Doberman Advocacy & Rescue (SADAR) — enough said, this sweet girl is now safe and loved!! The question remained as to why someone dumped this dog. She is young, very sweet, spayed and has had a decent level of obedience training. The answer wasn’t hard to find — heartworm! To give up such a good dog because of something so avoidable/treatable. I just can’t wrap my mind around that, can you? All night long I had twisted visions of my own dogs watching a car pull away, abandoning them. Even though it is something that could never happen to them, it did not make for a peaceful night… Please join SADAR and SND in ridding her of these heartworms and getting her ready for a forever home where she will be loved and appreciated! You may begin helping Sheba by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or you may also mail one in. We at SND appreciate your continued support of our beloved SNDobies - Remember, fully 100% of your donation will help Miss Sheba!! Thank you, we couldn’t do it without you!! Paxton!

April, 2016: At about 4 years of age, Paxton found himself in a terrible predicament. He was in a tiny shelter near the Mexican border. We don't know much about the shelter, but one important thing we do know is that they test for heartworm... and, if a dog is found to be positive, they are immediately euthanized. Paxton tested positive. Somewhere between the time Paxton got the death sentence and when this horrible event was to take place, someone got wind of his death sentence and made arrangements to get Paxton to San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and Rescue and into the arms of Margo and the RescueAngels. Clearly, Paxton has an angel. SADAR has come to SND for financial help to get Paxton treated. Heartworm is endemic in the southern area of the country, and SADAR cannot allow any Doberman to go untreated and ultimately die - either by execution or from the agonizing death by heartworm.  Heartworm treatment and aftercare is NOT cheap as we all know - In the coming days, you will learn that SADAR has taken on two other heartworm cases in addition to this dear Dude - look at that face!  Could you have turned your head? We know who couldn't and didn't in THREE cases!! Please donate to help Paxton. As you know, treatment will save his life, and SADAR has needed to treat so many dogs this year alone. Every cent counts, and with your help, Paxton will live a long, healthy and happy life. Thank you! You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or by mailing in your donation. Help Paxton and SADAR in their efforts to let NO Dobe die because they were not treated! If you're using PayPal and are able to use their 'Send Money' to 'friends and family' it will keep your donation fee free.  The rescues we help and all of us at SND greatly appreciate your support!! Thank you! Leslie Michell-Young, Case Manager for Paxton!!

Harley!

April, 2016: Hello Harley, you handsome devil!! Harley is a 3-4 year old male that was rescued from a shelter in California in February. He went immediately into a foster home, but after a serious altercation with the foster's pit bull it was determined that Harley should come to the rescue facility for his own protection. Once he was returned to the rescue it became obvious that he needed entropion surgery and that was just last week. For the inexperienced who've never seen it before the problem went unnoticed - but once he arrived it became quite obvious that he had bilateral entropion - a very painful condition. Entropion is the inversion, or rolling inward of all or part of the edge of an eyelid, which causes the eyelashes to contact the cornea. This creates friction, irritation and discomfort and can severely damage the eye if not surgically corrected. Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Fillmore, California is inundated with Dobes and as can be expected, in a usually very lean financial situation. Even though generously discounted, this surgery is just under $1000 to correct both eyes and they need our help raising these funds. Harley will make someone a wonderful companion and he does have some prospective adopters and he certainly deserves a forever home and also to be pain free! Please help us with any amount you can, we appreciate your sacrifice for these Dobes and their Rescues. You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or by mailing in your donation. Help Harley and DPR now, won't you?  If you're using PayPal and are able to use their 'Send Money' to 'friends and family' it will keep your donation fee free.  The rescues we help and all of us at SND greatly appreciate your support!! Laz!

April 12, 2016: With great sadness we are so sorry to tell you that Laz has succumbed to the ravages of his past life. Such was a direct consequence of what had already happened to him that brought him to his physical condition. There had been signs that this might end this way but none of us wanted to believe it of course. We just attributed everything to the terrible conditions he had endured and the terrible condition he was in... The toll all of this took was on his brain, physically and physiologically, and began manifesting in his mental demeanor. He began having what appeared to be “absence seizures” and he would “come to” in aggressive rage which would subside and recur without warning. This became uncontrollable and untenable for all including and especially poor Laz... With much anguish his Angels decided, with the advice of his doctor, to release him from his demons. The only comfort here is to know that everything that could have been done, was done. We know you will all join us in wishing him the peace he likely never had in his short life – he leaves us heartbroken though we know every effort was made to save him. His star will shine brightly in Sirius’ Garden in the Night Sky - now and always – twinkling down on those who cared... Rest in peace Sweet Prince...
April 11, 2016
: Remember the song "What A Difference A Day Makes?" Well, we're singing "What a difference a weekend makes!!"  Laz has managed to gain 5 pounds but for a dog in the condition he came in, caution is key and his vet will continue to monitor him to be sure organ damage is avoided at all costs - slow but sure is key.  His spirits have definitely improved and he just loves the visits from his Walgreens Angel!!  Thank you to all who are rooting for this precious boy - keep it up!!  Significant updates will continue as they occur and we will try to get some new pix too!
April 7, 2016
: After a night on IV fluids at the vet, early bloodwork came back better than expected.  He is eating and passing his food normally so far.  The puzzling aspect is that he has not gained an ounce which is concerning to his doctor.  Starvation is a complicated process and returning the body to normal function in the first days can be risky.  Not surprisingly, he is lethargic and depressed but who wouldn't be?  The only time he perked up and wagged his nub was when, true to her word, his GS Angel came to see him!!  We think they're both in love and there's a new Doberman Lover in Texas!!  He will be watched closely and any news will be given as we get it!  Keep those paws crossed for brave Laz!!  THANK YOU!!
April, 2016
: Meet Laz - short for Lazarus and one look at him will tell you why he's been given that name - a larger picture is on our home page here http://www.doberman911.org. In this season of renewal, I hope you will join us in giving Laz back his life and make it the one he has always deserved.  Sometime last week, a good samaritan in the form of a young woman was at her local Walgreens. Her day started routinely, she was hoping to run a quick errand and found a parking place at the side of the building. As she was getting out of her car she saw something - a head peeking at her around the corner... was it a dog? She walked over slowly to the dog - a shadow of a creature, skin and bones, his pathetic, battered body covered with bites and sores. Horrified, she went into the store and purchased bottled water and some dog food. She had never met a Doberman before. As the dog ate, she pondered what to do. She has small dogs of her own at home; she had heard some vile untruths about Dobermans being vicious. Still in shock, She walked back to her car and began to get in when the Doberman shot toward her and jumped in... shaking all over, and afraid of what might be next, Miss GS said "please don't bite me..." and with that, the Dobe started licking her hand. She drove home, put the Dobe in her back yard and called San Antonio Doberman Rescue. The SADAR RescueAngels of course joined this GS and arrangements were made for Laz to begin the road to recovery. This kind Lady even drove him all the way to Devine and each and every day since then, she has called SADAR and asked how he's doing. She is planning on visiting him soon once he has had his thorough exam to establish the extent of his starvation and the damage it has done. When I first saw this boy's pictures, I was completely disgusted. I thought of Frito and Noelle, past SND cases so horrific they're permanently etched in ones mind. Laz is the epitome of abuse and horror people inflict on the helpless. But then, I remembered that there are wonderful people out there, too. Whenever one becomes disillusioned with the state of the world, when you become sick over the thought of selfish young people, think of Laz's Angel. This person is the perfect example of what the world's young people should emulate. I hope she knows how her act of kindness effects all of us who become disgusted with the world. You know this will not be an inexpensive undertaking and SADAR has come to us to assist fundraising to help bring Lazarus back to life as his namesake did. Please spread the word! Donate... but not only that, tell the world about Laz's good samaritan. Everyone on social media should hear about this, and yes, everyone can learn from this wonderful young woman's actions. Thank you, dear Lady from SADAR and Special Needs Dobermans. Won't you start now?  You may donate by mail or use the PayPal button on the right (if using PayPal, to keep your donation 'fee free', please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab). Remember, every penny counts and every penny will be used to revive our Lazarus!! THANK YOU!! Les Michell-Young, Case Manager and Laz's biggest fan!!

Penny!

March, 2016: The beautiful face you are seeing is that of Penny, a senior girl located in Las Vegas and currently under the wings of the RescueAngels of Doberman Rescue of Nevada who took one look and declared:  "Penny's from heaven!" Currently, Penny has several rotted teeth due to untreated dental disease and is severely malnourished. The only background information known about this 8 - 10 year old sweetheart is that she was on her own in a poverty stricken area and was witnessed being chased out of a grocery store parking lot right onto an 8 lane highway that just happens to be one of Vegas' busiest thoroughfares! Luckily, she was plucked off of the highway by a concerned couple, however they were unable to take her with them. This resulted in a homeless lady looking after her. Penny and her new friend lived on the streets for several months, with Penny losing more and more weight, not only from her diseased and painful mouth, but also because of the lack of food. Penny was down to barely 40 pounds and the homeless woman, who did love Penny, knew Penny couldn't continue on in her deteriorating condition. Penny's friend was aware of DRNV and contacted them for help. DRNV has in turn come to us for assistance with Penny's medical care. She will need to have teeth extracted, antibiotics and a specific diet for her dangerous malnutrition. Thanks to the DRNV angels, Penny finally has a chance to get well and be adopted into a home where she will be forever loved and forever have every need met! DRNV takes in and cares for multiple Dobes with medical needs which takes a great toll on their limited resources. If you are able to donate towards Penny's medical care it would be greatly appreciated. Your gift is tax deductible and NO amount is ever too smalll! To help Penny regain her health, just click here to donate via snail mail or use the PayPal button on the right (if using PayPal, to keep your donation 'fee free', please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab). The rescues we help and SND greatly appreciate your support, for without YOU there is no US! Want an even closer look at our beautiful girl?  Yesssss!! Mama Cass!

March, 2016: At an estimated age of 5 years, Mama Cass was an overnight "drop off" (dumped) at the local shelter and as always, there was no background information - just thrown away like garbage.  She was grossly overweight - morbidly obese at 152 pounds on a medium size female frame that probably should have been 65-70 pounds at most, thyroid issues, colitis, fluid retention, pneumonia, and later diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease.  While she was at the shelter, they immediately began carefully reducing her calorie intake and evaluating her personality. Within a couple of days she shed about 15 pounds thus increasing her ability to move around. While she couldn’t get up on her own, once she was up with assistance she moved around on her own. She displayed a winning personality and the shelter began arranging for Doberman Rescue of Colorado to take Mama Cass. The people in DRCO fell in love with her and were determined to do everything possible to give this girl the wonderful life that she deserved.  Because of her worsening condition, it became necessary to take her to an Emergency Clinic so she could receive treatment and have full supervision and monitoring around the clock. Within two days Mama Cass suddenly took a drastic turn for the worse, developing uncontrollable diarrhea, and vomiting. And then she crashed with no reasonable chance for recovery. The decision was made to let this Lady suffer no more and she was given likely the only dignity she ever had in this life and that was to leave it with love.  We all know what emergency clinics do and this one continued to ring up the register long after it was evident that interventions were futile.  Please help us help DRCO recover from her loss and the financial burden that was a part of the effort to save her.  You can mail your donation or click on the Paypal button to the right (if using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift fee free!) Remember, NO amount is ever too small, and 100% goes entirely to the Mama Cass Fund. SND and DRCO are very grateful for your support.  Thank you from the SND Case Management Team.

Abby!

March, 2016: Abby and her BFF, Duke, have been together their entire 7 years of life. While not from the same litter, they obviously were whelped at about the same time. They were sold together and have lived together ever since. A couple of years ago, their family fell on hard times and lost their home. The humans got to live with the nice part of the family; Abby and Duke got the not so nice side. The dogs were left outside with little or no veterinary care. Definitely not the thing for these beautiful Seniors! After 2 long years the first family realized what was happening to their beloved dogs and acted quickly to get them to South West Ohio Doberman Rescue — the absolutely best thing to do for them! Melissa, Toni and all the loving Angels dote on Seniors and will make sure the rest of their lives are safe, loving — and together. Their foster-mom says they are a delight! They know sit, down and shake, they eat and play nicely with other fosters AND they even love kids and cats! I hear there is a certain cat who is their nap-time pillow! They will even put themselves to bed at night — no need to close their crates! Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Unfortunately Abby is heartworm positive, probably from the years abandoned outside, and both she and Duke must wait for their forever home (which will be together) until she is healthy again. SWODR and SND have long fought the heartworm war and we’re at it again for this super sweet pair. Helping Abby is, in fact, helping 2 Dobes at once as Duke is patiently waiting for her! You may begin helping Abby by clicking on the PayPal button to the right and declaring it a gift. If using PayPal, to keep your donation 'fee free' click on 'Send Money' from your account and then use the 'friends and family' tab. You may also mail one in. Please consider becoming a warrior in the heartworm war — the dogs need you so badly! You can also visit Abby on her Senior Page and maybe send her a Sponsorhip? Visit her here http://www.doberman911.org/seniors/cases/oh_abby.html!   As always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Case Manager for Abby.

Xena!

March, 2016: Meet our newest General Fund case, Xena! Xena is a sweet , 6-ish girl who is in great need of our help. Xena has multiple dentals concerns along with multiple large lumps, 12 of which are suspicious. Xena was turned in to a shelter in Las Vegas for euthanasia. Though the RescueAngels of Doberman Rescue of Nevada have contact with the "rescue coordinator" at the shelter, they had never heard from the intake clerk at the surrender desk until last week. He was so appalled he called DRNV immediately when this person(?) brought Xena in to be destroyed - too cheap/uncaring to pay for euthanasia at a vet? From her condition, that's likely the reason. The clerk said the dog was exceptionally nice and didn't seem to be in pain and he did not want to see her die. DRNV spoke to the owner who told them his wife just wanted to "get rid of the dog!" They couldn't or wouldn't spend the money to take care of her issues. The kind intake clerk convinced the owner to make a general surrender and the shelter ruled Xena a "rescue only" case. Because of her health and appearance issues, had DRNV not come to take her, she would surely have been destroyed. If there is karma, these "people" who wanted to" just get rid of the dog" will come to the same end one day! Xena is an exceptionally sweet and mellow Dober-lady , but with her health issues and generous collection of lumps, will more than likely not be adoptable without medical intervention. She has a large, suspicious lump on her rear leg that must be removed along with numerous lipomas. Her teeth are another big issue with lots of tartar build up and at least one abcess that seems to have ruptured. She will probably lose several teeth, which is better than losing her life. She is also slightly incontinent, now controlled with Proin. Xena loves everyone she meets and is also good with other animals. She just sits quietly watching everything going on around her. Bringing this sweet spirit back to being adoptable is going to be a major undertaking financially, but with the help of people like you and me it can be done. Lets help DRNV bring the spirit of Xena the Warrior Princess back so she can have the life she so richly deserves and has never had. Most of her problems are more than likely due to poor nutrition and lack of regular veterinary care.  But, now that she is getting the medical care she needs and a good diet there is no reason she can't recover quickly. But, we cannot do this without you, so please open your heart and your wallet and help Xena and DRNV so Xena can become whole again and get a family that will love and care for her. You can begin now by mailing your tax deductible gift or you can click on the box to the right to use PayPal. (If using PayPal, to keep your donation 'fee free' click on 'Send Money' from your account and then use the 'friends and family' tab.) Remember, no donation is ever to small and fully 100% will be used for Xena's care!! Thank you!  Nancy Harwood, Case Manager for Xena.

Mila!

February, 2016: Beautiful 4 years young Mila has a amazing story to tell us... amazing that she's survived and improving, and amazing enough that she's impressing an entire team of veterinarians and technicians. Mila's story begins with her surrender by her so-called owners to a small shelter outside of Indianapolis. Donna, a volunteer for Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue learned of her surrender and went to check this lovely girl out. Donna learned Mila was surrendered because her owners told the shelter workers and the local ACO that Mila no longer wanted to eat because she didn't like the new puppy in the home. When asked why they didn't surrender the puppy instead of Mila their answer was "well, we like the puppy better" (insert negative comments and expletives delted of your choice here).  When Donna finally got Mila out, she was unable to stand and was very weak. Donna got her to a vet who put Mila on fluids and wrapped her in blankets - her body temp didn't even register - and Donna raced Mila to the emergency vet during rush hour traffic.  Shortly after her arrival, the emergency hospital called and told Donna and Melissa that Mila was able to stand, but her electrolytes and liver values were elevated. Her veterinarian said her abdomen was very tender and suspected closed pyometra - a very dangerous condition requiring surgery. On the 12th, Mila had her surgery and no pyometra was discovered - BUT her surgeon found A TOWEL in Mila's small intestine. Mila required a 2" resection of the small intestine, and has been monitored very closely. On the 13th, her veterinarians have reported Mila is steadly improving, and on Valentine's Day, Melissa visited Mila. Mila is now walking under her own power and feeling better, although still, very weak. The most recent reports continue to be positive! Mila is now drinking water on her own, and her team of lifesavers is very pleased with her progress. She may be able to come home very soon!! Needless to say, saving this beautiful girls life has come at a very expensive price - her bills have come to over $5000.00 so far. This is a huge burden for SWODR, and Team Mila has come to SND for help. Mila would not be alive today if it weren't for angels such as Donna and Melissa. Looking at Mila's picture, you will know that beautiful Mila is worth every cent to get her back to health - they could NOT say NO and neither can we!!  Can you look at that face and say no? Please, don't say no!! SWODR will make certain Mila will find a home of her dreams - a fantastic outcome from a story that began so very sadly. Please send your donations so SWODR can continue saving the Mila's of the world. Please make your tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or mailing in a donation. If you use PayPal, use the 'Send Money' link in your account and using the 'friends and family' tab will keep your gift fee free!! Kai!

February, 2016: Say hello to 4 year old Kai. This adorable blue boy was originally picked up as a stray, taken to the Camden Animal Shelter in New Jersey, then pulled by the RescueAngels of Distinguished Dobermans Rescue. Shortly after arriving into foster care, Kai began refusing to eat or drink and had large loose stools. He was immediately vetted, hospitalized and treated for a GI upset and dehydration then discharged home on Flagyl, Cerenia and subQ fluids. Kai improved and actually gained 10 lbs! However, when the meds were completed, the same issues recurred. Because Kai's symptoms had responded well to previous treatment, he was prescribed a second course of Flagyl. Sadly, after only 5 days of medication, Kai was again very ill. He began vomiting bile and his capillary refill time was slow resulting in yet another trip to the vet. This time he was admitted through emergency. X-rays and an ultrasound were done to rule out an obstruction. Kai was treated for his GI issues and his diet dramatically changed with specialized proteins. He is again with his foster family and is slowly recovering. As you can well imagine, Kai's vet bills have steadily increased in large increments. The DDR angels have recently had several costly medical cases and therefore have come to SND for assistance - that means you!!. Won't you please find it in your heart to help SND support DDR and Kai. Only with our generosity can the rescues continue to save the many lives that they do! No donation is ever to small and and each and every cent goes to the Dobes! And donating is easy! Shelly!

February, 2016: Please allow me the pleasure of introducing to you to the beautiful Miss Shelly. Shelly is a 10 year old sweetheart relinquished by her owner to the angels of Atlanta Doberman Pinscher Rescue. The actual reason behind the dumping is unsure, only that the owner had to leave town 'quickly.' Quickly as in Shelly was dropped off one day and the owner was gone by the next morning! And as you might expect, Shelly does have some medical issues. She has a 2 inch long skin tag on her right flank, so large, it actually dangles and bleeds! She has 2 - 3 mammary tumors the ADPR vet feels need to be removed and biopsied. Also, when Shelly was 2 years old, she was hit by a car resulting in a pin in her right hind leg. The leg presently has little mobility which greatly impedes her gait and causes great difficulty when she lies down, changes positions and then raises herself back up. Shelly has not been on any type of supplement(s) or even a decent grade of dog food, both of which hasn't helped her aging ligaments. Hopefully a good diet, good supplements, chiropractic adjustments and cold laser treatments will help Shelly get back to feeling well again after her surgical issues are addressed. ADPR and SND want Shelly's remaining years to be her best ever and we need YOU to help US achieve that goal! You can mail your tax deductible gift or you can click on the box to the right to use PayPal. (If using PayPal, to keep your donation 'fee free' click on 'Send Money' from your account and then use the 'friends and family' tab.) Remember, no donation is ever too small and fully 100% will be used for Shelly's care!! Thank you ever so much for your continued generosity and support.  Please visit Shelly on her Senior Page and maybe spring for a Sponsorhip? Abbie!

February, 2016: Abbie's baaaaack!  Just when it looked like Abbie's life had finally taken the best turn possible she decided she wanted to try being a goat for a while... grrroan!  You might guess the result of that exercise - a late night trip to the Emergency Room for surgery to remove the result of her grazing on her bedding.  Having conquered the awful Worm, no one was going to let her just expire - she had lots of living to do in her with her Forever Family who were just waiting for the weekend to take her home.  They still will do just that and be sure her grazing days are over!  The news is all good - she is recovering beautifully - all except for the huge financial strain she put on always $$- strained rescues.  Won't YOU help us help them stay solvent so they can continue their Dobe lifesaving efforts?  Sure you will!!  See below for instructions on how to help now!  THANK YOU all for your continuing support of these ones!!  SND Case Management Team cheering on Miss Abbie!!

: Abbie had a family for all of her 5 years. She gave them several litters of pups and they gave her too much food. No doubt she would have been happy like that for her entire life but things change... Her family moved and she was forced to live alone, outside, at the new house. (I tried hard to imagine suddenly chaining out one of my girls after years indoors - I could not imagine much less do it!!) This unhappy new way of life also brought the dreaded heartworm. After she was thoroughly miserable and infected, her "loving family" decided she should probably find a family who would let her live inside. So after doing too little, too late, she was surrendered to rescue. Abbie has become South West Ohio Doberman Rescues' newest heartworm girl. Sweet Melissa says she is a wonderful girl with a great smile - unfortunately hard to see in this thumbnail - the white under her precious chin is actually her toothy grin! She loves everyone - dogs, kitties and children. Particularly children and she will drag Melissa over to visit any kids she sees. Seems like her only dislike is boy dogs - after alll, they were part of the pregnant equation... :). If I had children in my house, I would foster this girl in a heartbeat! Look at those eyes, that sweet face! We can't all take her in and cuddle her down to a reasonable weight, but we can help her! Please consider joining SWODR and SND in yet another heartworm battle.  Miss Abbie deserves to be healthy and happy in a house brimming with love and children. You can begin making this possible by clicking on the PayPal button to the righ by sending your gift to "Friends and Family" from your account - this makes your donation fee-free for you and us too! You may also mail your check. We at SND are eternally grateful to all of you who fight the heartworm war with us. You are much appreciated! Thank you!!  Carol Belknap, Case Manager for Miss Abbie.

Zoey!

February 2016: Here we go again!! Another sweet Doberman lady who was bred until she couldn't be bred any longer. Backyard breeders who don't give a flip about the dog, only the money they could get from puppies. One can only hope the pups have gotten good homes, unlike the one they came from. Poor Zoey is approximately 9 years old with one huge mammary gland just hanging, probably 6-8 inches from her body and several others very saggy and discharging fluid. She is obviously not spayed and obviously not well cared for either.  She was 'given' to a passerby by her owner - a homeless man living in a van - this person promptly put her on Craig's List for $50!!  Easy money!! A longtime volunteer for in Georgia for Dobie-Rescue North Florida saw the listing and bought Zoey so that she would not go to someone for some nefarious intentions like further breeding or who knows what else. The DRNF volunteer saw to it that Zoey got to the Judy in North Florida and now Zoey is getting the care and love she needs and deserves.  But this rescue needs help with her vet bills. This mammary gland will need surgical intervention and she will need chest x-rays to rule out any spreading if this is cancerous. Bloodwork showed abnormalities which are not surprising given her condition. The mammary gland is grossly abcessed, bleeding and would rupture easily. Doberman Rescue of Northern Florida needs some help with these expenses as with most rescues who have a ton of dogs but not a ton of money. We don't have a lot of information about Zoey, only that she deserves a loving family and someone who will love her for herself and not for the money she can make for them. Please find it in your heart to help Zoey with a donation, which will help these wonderful RescueAngels to help more of our beautiful Dobes.  You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on your right or by mailing one in. If you use PayPal, use the 'Send Money' link in your account and using the 'friends and family' tab will keep your gift fee free! Please visit Shelly on her Senior Page and maybe send her a Sponsorhip? Pirate!

February 2016: Dear Pirate got his name when Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Fillmore, California picked him up from the Stanislaus Animal Shelter as a stray this past January 26th. This handsome boy's right eye was HUGE, inflamed, angry and causing him great pain. He was immediately taken to their wonderful veterinarian, who had seen this type of defect before - it could be Pirate was born this way...imagine, two years old and walking around with that; feeling as if there was a nail stuck in your eye! The alternatives are horrific enough to think about - someone DID this to him.  Pirate immediately had the eye removed and was recovering when his loving foster mom, Colleen, noticed that the swelling in the surgical area was not going down. Colleen took Pirate to her local veterinarian, who highly recommended Pirate have a drain put in the enucleation area - yes, that now makes TWO substantial bills to save this Pirate. Pirate is now recovering nicely from his ordeal and feeling much, much better! He's a typical adolescent Dobe and now is almost ready to find his forever home. Without Doberman Pinscher Rescue's intervention, who knows what would have become of this most handsome and distinguished baby? As always, no rescue can operate without the help of generous donations, and that's why SND has been called upon for help to finance Pirate's two procedures. Please donate so DPR can continue to save worthy Dobes like Pirate. Every cent counts and 100% will be applied to Pirate's expenses - and you'll have the satisfaction that not only a life has been saved, but that life will find a loving home.  If you can help us with Pirate, please make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or mailing in a donation. If you use PayPal, use the 'Send Money' link in your account and using the 'friends and family' tab will keep your gift fee free!  We thank each and every one of you for all you do for these wonderful dobes. Want an even closer look at our beautiful boy?  Arrrrr!! Come take a look at a happy Cover Pirate here:  http://www.doberman911.org/. Leonard!

February 2016: Say hi to Leonard.  As is so often the case, we don't have much information about Leonard other than he is approximately 10 yrs old and was found as a stray in Georgia, picked up by Clayton County Animal control. Luckily for for Leonard, his third collision was with the RescueAngels from Atlanta Doberman Pinscher Rescue!  Leonard has a fractured pelvis and a flesh wound that makes one think he may have been hit by a car. His rescuers have no idea how long he has been in this condition, which could possibly complicate things as far as any surgeries he may need to make him comfortable if not whole again. He is very thin so he gets cold quite easily. Leonard has a suspicious-looking epulis which should be removed and biopsied to rule out an agressive melanoma.  If pathology were to indicate cancer, surgery for his fractured pelvis and neutering which would address a swollen prostate will not proceed. Estimated cost for everything Leonard needs is approximately $3500. If you can help Leonard and ADPR, that would be wonderful as this Dobergent deserves a better life than he has had thus far, and one that is pain free. Seniors need love too! If you can help us to help Leonard please make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or mailing in a donation. If you use PayPal, use the 'Send Money' link in your account and using the 'friends and family' tab will keep your gift fee free!  We will be posting an update regarding his prognosis to determine what his expenses might be.  Wish him the best, please!! We thank each and every one of you for all you do for these wonderful dobes. Please visit Leonard on his Senior Page and maybe send him a Sponsorhip? Shelby!

February 2016: By the time she was 2 years old, Shelby had been through 2 rescues and at least one "forever" family. We can't tell you about her life before the first rescue, or about the rescue itself, but we can tell you they didn't spay or neuter before adoption. So anyway, they adopted Shelby out to her new loving family last summer. She's a real sweetheart who loves kids, dogs and kids... should have been a done deal. Then her new "mom" started incubating twins and so she did what she thought was best and dumped Shelby back into rescue. At least Shelby got a real break there - the Real RescueAngels are from South West Ohio Doberman Rescue - and she is truly safe at last! Toni, Melissa and the Angels have wrapped their loving wings around her and promised her a better life. It seemed like an easy case since Shelby is healthy and loving... spay her and wait for the right family to meet her. When her spay was begun, she started bleeding and her body temperature dropped dangerously low, definitely VonWillebrand positive! They stabilized her and ordered the meds and plasma to try again later in the week. This time they did accomplish the spay, although her temperature again dropped dangerously low. A simple spay has now become hugely expensive and SWODR has asked SND - and you - for help with her surgical bill. Please consider helping sweet Shelby cross this last hurdle! You can begin helping Shelby by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (using the 'Send Money' link in your account and using the 'friends and family' tab will keep your gift fee free!). You may also mail one in. Please remember it is truly you, the Doberman community, who are saving her. It is you who enable Melissa and the SWODR Angels to reach out to save a little girl this precious. It is also you who make it possible for SND to exist! I know you will reach out again to help - and we at SND always appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Come take a look at a happy Cover Girl here:  http://www.doberman911.org/. Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Case Manager for Shelby.

Indy!

2/9/2016 UPDATEVery sad heartbreaking news for Miss Indy and those who loved her.  Following what was to be a routine spay she was bleeding more than normal and no interventions with plasma and cryoprecipitate was undertaken... She died that night.  She will be sorely missed but she was given every chance her Angels could give her - she suffers no more and she had love for the final weeks of her short life.  Rest in peace sweet Girlie - your star will shine brightly always.
2/3/2016 UPDATE
Indy's visit to the specialists at UGA confirmed the fact that Indy's palate issues cannot be corrected surgically with much of a chance for success.  Complicated, multiple surgeries with poor prognoses not to mention the trauma to Indy.  ADPR has decided not to proceed as Indy is doing really well even with this malformation - she is a happy, well-adjusted little Lady and will be given all the love and care she needs to stay that way!  We thank all of you for your outpouring of support for this dear Doberman Lady - You are truly members of the Indy Angels Team!!
January 2016
:
Say hello to our newest SNDobe, 2 year old Miss Indy. Indy was wandering the streets of Dothan, AL when she was discovered by a kind-hearted vet tech who right then and there took Indy in and provided her with basic medical care, then contacted DAN (Doberman Assistance Network) to have this young Dobiegirl placed with a rescue who could provide for her remaining needs. At this point DAN contacted Atlanta Doberman Pinscher Rescue and the ADPR angels wasted no time getting Indy into their care! Indy has a severe injury or congenital defect in the roof of her mouth where a portion of it is actually missing leaving an open area into her nasal passages allowing foods and fluids to enter. Understandably, this causes Miss Indy difficulty when trying to eat or drink by inducing sneezing, coughing and even choking. Unfortunately, her health issues don't stop there as she is missing some molars and, coming from the South is, of course, heartworm positive. ADPR originally had Indy seen at a local veterinary hospital. She was then referred to GA Veterinary Specialists who stated they had never seen a case like hers and ultimately referred Indy to the veterinary school in Georgia. As you can well imagine, Indy's consults and the followup treatment she will invariably require will be quite costly as this is a serious and unusual injury and is not going to be an 'easy fix'. Please find it in your heart to make a tax deductible donation of any amount to help fund the care that will allow Indy to do what we take for granted, the simple task of eating and drinking. You can mail your gift in or click on the Paypal button to the right (if using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift fee free!) Remember, NO amount is ever too small, and your total donation goes entirely to the Dobe you have selected or to the General Fund, whichever you choose. As always, SND and all of the rescues you help support are forever grateful for your contributions, for without YOU there would be no US!!  Beth McCahren, Case Manager for Indy.

Lexi!

2/3/2016 UPDATELexi's visit to the specialists in Austin was a very positively hopeful one!  It seems that the immediate improvement in her nutrition and the early splinting she received has helped tremendously and with continuing good care, feeding, PT and the passage of time, the worst she may have is a slightly bowed radius!!  She will be followed up in 3-4 weeks to be sure growth plates remain open and she continues to progress as well as she has!  Happy Puppy Update!!
January 2016
: Many times one encounters a tragic situation that has a bit of good fortune as an outcome. Dear Lexi is such a case. This beautiful, affectionate puppy was discovered on a Texas Craig's List ad by a volunteer for Last Hope Doberman Rescue. The owner purchased this sweet angel from a breeder (term used very loosely) when she was only 5 weeks old and her legs already showed evidence of deformity. As luck would have it, the owner could not afford the medical treatment required to help Lexi, and gladly surrendered this baby to rescue. Lexi was immediately taken to a veterinarian and bloodwork showed an increase in calcium and phosphorus - a hallmark of hypertropic osteodystrophy, also known as HOD. This is a condition of the long bones in puppies due to poor blood supply, improper nutrition and perhaps a genetic component.  In Lexi's case, at 13 weeks old, her left foreleg is much more misshapen than her right. So, far, she has had two traditional hard casts on her left leg and now is sporting a soft cast. Her right leg is improving and she has another appointment with a specialist on February 3 to check her progress.  Last Hope Doberman Rescue and Lexi have a long road ahead. Lexi will need continuing therapy and probably will require surgery once she's all grown up to correct the damage that nutritional support, hydortherapy, and physical therapy cannot repair. This is going to be expensive, and Last Hope has asked SND for help, and this is where good fortune comes in. SND has helped so many Dobermans - babies to seniors - become healthy and happy and it's because of YOU. Every one reading this should think of little Lexi the next time they see a little Doberman puppy... she should have the chance to become a running, playing ball of energy. Please be a partner in making that happen by contributing to this dear baby's rehabilitation. Every last cent counts and no donation is EVER too small. It's going to take a lot of dedication and hard work on Last Hope's volunteer and foster mom, Sue and Lexi's care team, but with your help and love, Lexi will win. What's a better outcome than that?  You can start now and make a donation through PayPal using the button on the right, or by mailing one in.   If using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift 'fee free' to you and us too! Thank you!! Leslie Michell-Young, Case Manager and Miss Lexi's biggest fan!!

Razer!

January 2016: Meet poor Razer!  At only 4 years old, he's been out of the fire and into the frying pan - twice in a lifetime!! About a year ago, Razer was rescued from a shelter by the Rescue Angels at San Antonio Doberman Advocacy & Rescue (SADAR).  He was vetted, socialized and adopted to what was thought to be an excellent situation - sometimes all the care in the world is NOT enough when dealing with prospectives.  About 9 months later, Razer began having issues with impacted anal glands which would require surgical removal - because his owners gave SADAR a sob story and SADAR wanted him to keep his "great" home, SADAR agreed to pay for this surgery!  Their thank you from these less than honest people was to return him to SADAR 3 months later - HEARTWORM POSITIVE!!  Really?  The first story was "moving and couldn't keep him in an apartment" then a slip of the tongue revealed the owners had found another dog they liked better - so Razer had to go... really??  When they dumped him back at SADAR, he was returned with a pillow and UNADMINISTERED HW preventative... really?? Now that he is safe again with SADAR and they have already paid for his surgery - they need our, your, help with heartworm treatment.  Luckily, the DPCA will subsidize some of this cost but we have agreed to help SADAR with the remaining balance - heartworm treatment is rarely cheap as we all know.  Won't you help us help Razer? Sure you will, right?  You can begin now by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPay button on the right or mailing in a donation for Razer. (if using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift 'fee free'). Thank you, from Razer, SADAR and all of us at SND!! Jonah!

January 2016: Dear sweet Jonah was found as a stray and as far as we know ended up in Tulare County Animal Shelter in California a few months ago. He is a four year old red male Doberman, although that was not always apparent.   Jonah had demodectic mange so bad the shelter staff described him as a lab mix, not even recognizable as a Doberman. Fortunately though, one of the kennel staffers realized he was a Doberman and called  Doberman Assistance Network who in turn called Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore. Once rescued from the shelter, Jonah went immediately into a foster home for care and treatment. By the time Jonah was well enough from mange to be neutered, it was noticed he had bilateral entropion - the eyelids are turned into the eye causing constant abrasion by the eyelashes! Ouch!! Thankfully, this was corrected surgically at the time of his neuter. Jonah's demodex is clearing up well too and the entropion of both eyes has been completely corrected and he is soooo much more comfortable now. Needless to say, most all rescues are overstocked with wonderful Dobes who need homes and these selfless rescues are always financially challenged as you can imagine. If you are thinking about a wonderful companion please contact your local rescue and adopt or foster to help these Dobes in need. Rescues are always in need of fosters. They also need funds to help all the sweet but unfortunate Dobes they care for. Please give a little or a lot to help with Jonah's vet bills and in so doing helping the rescues so they can continue to help the less fortunate Dobes that confront them, endlessly it seems. You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPay button on the right or mailing in a donation for dear Jonah. (if using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift 'fee free'). Thank you, from Jonah, Dobie Rescue and Little Paws and all of us at SND!! Nancy Harwood, Case Manager and Jonah fan!!

Missy!

January 2016: A sweet Senior Lady named Missy and Doberman Pinscher Rescue in California need our help!!  The stream of Dobes needing help and coming to Rescues really knows no season or bounds! The DPR Angels have a sweet eight year old Senior who was originally rescued from a shelter in August 2015 after being dumped back then - after all this time, details of that first dump are not known. Missy was adopted soon thereafter and then, through no fault of her own was returned approximately a month ago after the adopters vet discovered four small mammary tumors. The adopters said they could not afford the surgery. Maybe one of the conditions for adoption should be "can you afford to take care of any health problems that may turn up?" The vet believes the tumors appeared cancerous but believes he got it all.  The tumors could recur, but once removed and Missy is spayed it is less likely, in my experience as a former vet tech. The estimated cost of Missy's diagnosis, treatment and recovery is beyond the routine expense budget of a cash strapped rescue that is full to overflowing with Dobes and just struggling to help as many unfortunates as possible.  Any help we give them keeps them solvent and in a position to keep helping Dobes in need of care. Please help this Senior Lady who I am sure is very confused as to why her people dumped her yet again. No amount is too small, we are so very grateful for all of your help over the years. As you know, you can make a donation through PayPal using the button on the right, or by mailing one in.   If using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift 'fee free' to you and us too! Trumpet!

January 2016: Trumpet is a wonderful all natural Doberman who is a bona fide member of the Doberman Mensa Club. He's now six years old and was surrendered by his owners to Dog Mountain Rescue - and it's suspected his former owners simply couldn't keep up with his happy and ever present intelligence. Trumpet does play well with others, but he's constantly keeping his friends and caretakers on their toes with his endearing and amazing games. He will sneak into his friend's crates and abscond with their toys or any other treasure left unattended. He's a joyful, ever active playful guy who initiates games with canines and human alike... he's a treasure and a delight to know. Trumpet has a rather strange soft tumor on his side that started to drain on his chest between his front legs. His veterinarian feels it should be removed, even though it's suspected it's benign. With surgery and biopsy, this beautiful guy will be more comfortable and get back to his creative ideas for recreation! Please help this beautiful boy and Dog Mountain Rescue finance Trumpet's surgery through a contribution to SND. Every cent counts and will help Trumpet find a wonderful home, healthy and ready to engage! You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPay button on the right or mailing in a donation for Trumpet. (if using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift 'fee free'). Thank you, from Trumpet, Dog Mountain Rescue and me, Leslie Michell-Young, Case Manager playing the drum roll for Trumpet!!

Trixie!

January 2016: Just when you think you have heard and seen it all something like this comes up. It makes me wonder if people really know the meaning of HUMANE! Trixie's treatment was anything but humane! Trixie belonged to a woman who moved out of the country and left Trixie in the care of her son who is schizophenric. He lived in the back yard with the dog, denied entry to the house by his mother. Trixie was fed two small portions of rice and some vegetables as the mother did not believe in dog food. We all know that is not enough nutrition for any dog let alone a 12 year old. Needless to say, Trixie was very skinny! The neighbors continuously complained but the local animal control would not seize her because they had to go through necessary legal channels. The rescuers tried to reason with the son to no avail, some even tried to abduct Trixie, but the son made that very dangerous. Trixie finally ended up as a stray (no one knows how) and Dobies and Little Paws rescue was able to get her from the shelter so she could get the care she so desperately needed and certainly deserved. Trixie had a large mammary tumor that was beginning to break through the skin and was causing her a lot of discomfort and even though rescues normally would not put a Senior dog through something like this surgery, the tumor had to be removed for her well being and comfort. Trixie is now thriving and the rescue has an amazing foster/hospice home waiting for her with all the love and attention she needs for the rest of her life. Dobies and Little Paws rescue felt that they owed her a chance to be happy for whatever time she has left and getting rid of that mass was necessary to accomplish that. Thank you Colleen and Dobies and Little Paws Rescue for not giving up on Trixie. If Trixie's story touches your heart as it has mine please donate something to help with her medical expenses. I personally have never had a dobe live to be a glorious Senior, so if you have you know they are truly a treasure and should be treated as such. The woman who left this precious Senior is neither human or humane! Please help this rescue who refused to give up on this beautiful girl by donating a little or a lot for her care. You can give a tax deductible donation by using the PayPay button on the right or mailing in a donation for Trixie. (if using Paypal, please use the 'Send Money' link in your account and use the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your gift 'fee free'). Please remember, there never is a donation that is too small, and 100% will go directly to Trixie's veterinary care. Trixie is also a member of the Senior Doberman Project and you can visit her here - and maybe even decide to become one of her Sponsors - visit her here http://www.doberman911.org/seniors/cases/ca_trixie2.html.   Give yourself a very special New Year's gift and help SND assist the Dobies and Little Paws Angels with Trixie's Senior care. You will be rewarded knowing you've helped a wonderful, happy Senior Doberman live out her life comfortably and happily! Thank you!!! Nancy Harwood, Case Manager for Miss Trixie.
