Welcome to doberman911.org, the website for Special Needs Dobermans (SND). We are an organization of people with a common goal of helping senior and special needs Dobermans. That need may be financial or it may be only information and/or moral support for the owner of a Doberman with a serious illness or injury. We will also aid in rehoming and fostering senior Dobermans. These Dobermans may be shelter rescues or they may already be much loved companions with a special need. Financial aid may be through donations or through avenues such as online auctions. Every precaution will be taken to assure that the need is real.

HELP ME

Give me the ugly dog with one eye, three legs,
and help me show that they're more than just a form and a face.
Give me the scarred dog, burned and slashed with hate,
and help me lead it away from that terrible fate.
Give me the deaf and blind dog, and help me show it the way
in the silence and dark of each of their days.
Give me the shutdown dog, depressed of mind,
and help me cherish their soul until their fears unwind.
Give me the old dog, bent and broken with age,
and help me fill their last days with an unending grace.
Give me the ugly dog, I'll leave the pretty one for you,
and help me show them they're worthy of love and joy, too.

Meet The SNDobes Helped With General Funds!!

These Special Needs Dobermans were helped with one-time grants from our most important fund, the General Fund.  This fund is used to help Dobermans fortunate enough to find themselves in Rescue Groups.  Assistance is only provided for extraordinary expenses.  These grants can be augmented by your generous contributions to any of these precious Dobes!! Private owners will be provided the necessary information to help them fundraise for their own Dobes as well as being given information to reduce their costs for medications and ways to seek additional information about Doberman illnesses.

Diego !!

December, 2020:  This gorgeous little pup’s name is Diego.  He’s still a baby, only nine to maybe eleven months old.  He's not a very large boy but with BYBers - you never know what to expect.  Don’t those soulful eyes just melt your heart! Well, get ready for Diego’s story to have a different type of affect on your heart.  As is the case more often than not, rescues usually have no history on most of the dogs they save, and Diego is no exception to that rule.  Luckily, the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue got wind of Diego and they set off to do whatever was needed to take care of any needs he might have.   When they first met Diego he originally presented with a lame right rear leg.  It was suspected he’d been hit by a car.   The leg was casted and it recovered quite nicely.  Everyone thought all was well until 12/14/20 when he began vomiting and was very lethargic.  The first thought was a bowel obstruction.  An exploratory surgery revealed no obstruction but instead hidden injuries: torn bladder, damaged spleen and many adhesions. This baby had been suffering but because of the stoic Doberman demeanor, he hid it quite successfully until he could hide it no more.  The new diagnostic findings reveal poor Diego was hit hard by a car very early in his young life, it’s amazing he even survived!  You can only imagine how hard this has hit the rescue with all of the surgeries and multiple treatments Diego has needed.  HDDR has come to our SND family for assistance with Diego’s medical care. Your donation will even be doubled during our ‘Make Santa Pay’ campaign!!  No gift is ever too small, and the rescues definitely need our help to stay solvent.  You can make your tax deductible donation by mail or PayPal.  Just take a look at this brave DobeKid here https://www.doberman911.org and then... Let’s send some Christmas spirit to Diego and his dedicated Rescue Angels!! Thank you one and all for everything you do to sustain our recues!! Beth McCahren, Diego's SND Case Manager.

Bonita !!

December, 2020:  This darling adolescent DobeGirl  (estimated to be about 4 years old) is now known as Bonita (aka Pretty Girl).  She was found on the streets in El Paso, Texas.  She was unable to walk or even get up.  Animal Services transported her to Eastwood Animal Clinic and from that point on - the 20th of November - Bonita's luck changed.  High Desert Doberman Rescue in New Mexico was contacted and Anthony and his army mobilized and made sure Bonita would receive the extensive care she needed.  Both this dear lady's rear legs were fractured, the left leg in several places (see x-ray below), most likely from a confrontation with a moving vehicle.   Bonita looks like a giant stepped on her - the fact that she survived is amazing and what's even more astonishing is that she's alert, friendly and ready to make friends and give love.  Bonita was finally discharged on December 5th to a watchful foster home, where she will slowly learn to stand, walk and be treasured.  Bonita's hospital stay and additional expenses has cost over $4000.00 so far - not counting future physical therapy and rehabilitation which she will most assuredly need.  HDDR is a small rescue and the volunteers are happy to give everything they have to care for severe cases such as Bonita's, but they simply cannot save other Bonita's without the help of generous friends and Special Needs Dobermans.  We've had some extremely heart wrenching cases in 2020, and SND with your help has been the organization that has made the difference for so many struggling rescues.  So please, send in a donation to SND to help precious Bonita and High Desert Doberman Rescue. .  Please begin helping Bonita by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Sending money to a friend option in PayPal gives more (it saves the fees too)!  USPS can deliver your gift for Bonita too!!  NOTESECRET SANTA WILL MATCH YOUR DONATION DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR!!   How about a now standing up Bonita?  Just click here https://www.doberman911.org and then send Miss Bonita your love and good wishes!  Thank you for your generous hearts. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager and Pretty Girl Bonita's newest friend!

Tristan !!

December, 2020:  I look at this boy's face and in all candor, don't even know where to start... Tristan was reportedly a stray who was brought to a shelter by an individual claiming to have found him on the streets. He was somebody’s Doberman… He's guesstimated to be around 5 or 6 years old by his vet, and that being the case, one has to wonder just where he's been for the past several months(?)... and the reason is because Tristan is a very sick baby. Doberman Pinscher Rescue's was alerted and their volunteer picked up sweet Tristan from the shelter, but because of the holiday, was unable to get him into the vet for examination. Shortly after his rescue from the shelter, the volunteer discovered Tris was unable to urinate and rushed him into the emergency veterinarian, where a catheter was required to drain his bladder. An ultrasound revealed a HUGE tumor on his prostate... the size of an orange. At this point, his condition is guarded, as we don't know if this tumor is a malignancy... and if it is, metastases are probably likely. This dear baby did not grow this tumor overnight. Someone, somewhere, owned Tristan and simply didn't care about him, and now, this could very well be his death sentence. UPDATE: First hurdle overcome!!   Tristan does NOT have metastases-lungs and other organs are clear!!   Surgery is planned and will proceed as soon as specialists can be arranged.  As I write this, I had to take a few deep breaths. I have a thing for blues; their sweetness, their beautiful color and their amazing exuberance and joy. Tristan is so beautiful, and it literally hurts to look at his picture. You know Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California has rescued countless Dobermans and given them love, health, joy and forever homes. I don't know if this dear boy will make it, but we can thank these Rescue Angels for giving him love, a soft place to land and diagnostics to hopefully heal Tristan. At least Tristan knows he is truly loved and will get the care he needs. Please, please help DPR and SND in this effort by sending a donation, any amount will help and goes 100% to his satisfy his bills which are climbing steadily to over $10K.  Please begin helping Tristan by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Sending money to a friend option in PayPal gives more (it saves the fees too)!  USPS can take care of your mail-in gift for Tristan!!  NOTESECRET SANTA WILL MATCH YOUR DONATION DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR!!   Just take a look at his face here https://www.doberman911.org and send dear Tristan some hope and good vibes!  Thank you. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager.

Hickson !!

November, 2020:  I very much doubt if any of Hickson's 10 years have been good ones.  The best thing that has happened to him is being rescued by the Angels of Georgia Doberman Rescue. I would bet his life has swung between merely uncomfortable and downright painful.  All 10 years of it.  He was found in North Georgia and posted all over Facebook.  His rescuer put some effort into finding his owner and finally succeeded in tracking them down via Hickson's microchip.  No happy reunion there--these were the people who dumped him, they sure didn't want him back.  His rescuer's vet had someone who wanted to adopt him.  Fine - for a week and a half - then GDR was contacted about him again.   It seems his new family found out he has heartworms and they got rid of him instead of the worms.  FINALLY, Georgia Doberman Rescue got their hands on him and he will no longer have to bounce around between bad and worse anymore.  His heartworms are being dealt with as we speak.  Then they will tackle the source of a stubborn ear infection which may have there for a long time.  They will be taking him to a specialist next as an advanced swab of pretty expensive meds didn't touch it.  Unfortunately, nothing can be done for his beautiful Dobie voice - he was de-barked in his previous  "life"…   Can we think just for a moment about someone who can pay for debarking but not for heartworm preventative pills?  This boy is sweet and goofy and still loves to play!!  Please join GDR and SND in healing his pain and killing some more worms!  You may begin helping sweetie-boy Hickson by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option even saves the fees! USPS will deliver a check, rain or shine, and no help is too small to matter.   I thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies in The Worm Wars, my crusade!   As a Senior Gent (though you'd hardly notice) dear Mr. Hickson already has his own Senior Page with some great pix - just visit him here https://doberman911.org/seniors/cases/ga_hickson.html and send him some Sponsorship love too if you want!   Thank you!! Janie !!

November, 2020:  Janie was a stray, the man who found her tried to turn her into rescue.  Since Georgia doesn't permit this, Janie had to go through the animal control channels.  She was in rough shape and needed to be rescued. While they waited for no one to claim her, she waited for help.  Once allowed, Danielle and her Rescue Angels at Georgia Doberman Rescue wrapped her in loving arms and told her life would be better from now on!  Five year old Janie has a few problems standing between her and a new life, she arrived in bad shape and hadn't been cared for properly in a while.  Janie has a couple growths that need to come off. One is on her face and another larger one is on her chest. Hopefully these will remove easily and be benign.  First though she is being treated for my enemy and yours, heartworm.  Yes, heartworm and you know how I am about dem worms!!  The worms must die so this lovely girl can get on with her life.  She also shows something is going on with her hips and her gait is off.  Janie shows no neurological deficits or pain and there has been no progression of symptoms so hopefully we aren't looking at Wobblers.  She is still clearly in survival mode and doesn't miss a chance to steal food, trash, anything interesting smelling.  Janie is truly a sweetheart who gets along with simply everybody.  She'll make some lucky person a wonderful companion--soon.  First we have to fix her.  Please consider joining GDR and SND in helping Janie. You may begin by clicking the PayPal button to the right - choosing the gift option even saves the fees! The USPS works too!! I thank you so much for your continued support of our SNDobies and in the continuing Worm Wars!! Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Janie's SND Case Manager (who would give her a home in a heartbeat).

Layna !!

November, 2020:  Layna is about 5 years old and so far I don't think she's had much "family" life.  She came to Bluegrass Doberman Rescue as an owner surrender. They had only had her about 2 1/2 months. You see they live on a farm and Layna has quite the prey drive.  She couldn't be trusted around the farm animals… These people had taken her on because the people that had her weren't taking good care of her (let your imagination walk around that comment). But, unfortunately, she couldn't stay on the farm.   However, fortunately, she did find BDR and sweet Melissa.  Life will be better from now on -- Melissa will see to that! Layna is gorgeous and typically velcro. She seems to think she's a lap dog and looks into your soul with her sweet eyes.  She isn't afraid to ask for more loving either, nudging any available hand for contact with her.  Pretty resilient, in spite of her no doubt rough past, she loves giving kisses and letting humans know she loves them.  Her nub wags fiercely when you enter the room -- and it truly is just a little, tiny nub (but I bet it's cute). Layna is a pure example of man's best friend and there's only one thing between her and forever happy -- heartworms. So, please help this dober-gazelle (oh yeah, she runs like the wind) get rid of these horrible killers.  Please consider joining BDR and SND in the fight to kill worms once again. You can begin helping Layna by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, remember -- "gifting" even saves the fees (another worm dead!!). You may also drop a check in the mail, USPS delivers in spite of the virus!!  Thank you so much for your continued love and support of our SNDobies!!  And, thanks for being my fellow worm warriors!!!! Carol Belknap, Layna's SND Case Manager.

Jack !!

November, 2020:  Meet Jack - estimated to be about 6-7 years old.  On Jack’s arrival at an animal shelter with his mate, impounded after they had been running loose for many days, a shelter volunteer noticed his front leg was extremely swollen perhaps to about twice its normal size.  He and his fellow traveler, a DobeLady later named Sally, were unchipped and untagged strays so absolutely no background was known.  Shelter staff believed he may have suffered a snake or spider bite because of the swelling.  A shelter volunteer contacted the RescueAngels at Doberman Pinscher Rescue immediately and convinced shelter management to release the Dobe prior to end of the stray hold so that jack could receive medical attention asap.  He was in such poor condition systemically that he had to be stabilized prior to amputation surgery because of the condition of the leg. The morning of his surgery he appeared well enough to withstand anesthesia and surgery and so the leg was removed.  His vet noticed that a lot of tissue appeared gangrenous and there was no nerve response in the limb.  His prognosis remained guarded but before he could begin healing, Jack died.  His body evidently had taken all the trauma it could and organ failure set in.  His vet team was baffled by his rapid shut down after they'd determined he was stable enough to endure amputation.  Sally was taken in by DPR and she will be made healthy and ready for adoption.  It was obvious she sorely missed her companion.  Jack did not die because no one cared.  Every attempt was made to save his life if not his limb.  Hospitalization, diagnostics and surgery do not come without expense as you can guess.   We're asking you to please honor Jack and DPR's valiant effort to save him with a tax deductible gift of any amount.  NO donation is ever too small and each and every one is greatly appreciated.  With your gifts we can help keep Doberman rescues afloat so they can save the next Doberman that needs them. THANKS to all!! Please begin helping with Jack's final expenses by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Opting for the "send money to a friend" option even saves all of us the fees!  The USPS can deliver your check and eliminates fees too.  SND Case Management Team.

Dulce !!

October, 2020:  How does a precious puppy, only four months old, come into contact with some of the worst wastes of space scum of the earth? Dulce is just a baby. She should be acting silly, happily playing, learning new things about life every day, and being totally adored and loved on by her human.   Instead, she’s a veterinary inpatient, just beginning her long road to recovery from reccurring abuse!! You read that right, reccurring abuse!! One can only imagine what her background entails because her abuse resulted in fractures of BOTH front legs, with one leg being fractured more than once!  Also, the breaks are at different stages of healing meaning she was definitely severely abused more than one time.  And as if all of that wasn’t enough, broken and in excruciating pain, she was abandoned in the blazing heat of Texas.  At some point she ended up in a shelter and this is where the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue of New Mexico discovered her and rescue tagged her immediately.  But for some unfathomable reason, the shelter adopted her out anyway, even with all of her injuries!  Fortunately, she was returned the following morning and HDDR was able to pick her up and whisk her off to the veterinary hospital.  Poor Dulce was in severe distress from pain, had a high fever, polydipsia, and a quite obvious fractured paw.  Upon examination and xrays the other fractures were diagnosed as well as the different stages of healing.  One of the older fractures had begun repairing itself inappropriately and although the doctors are trying to save the limb, only time will tell if it will ultimately need to be amputated.  Dulce’s next step is to be scheduled for hardware removal and then physical therapy will begin.  Amazingly, even after all of the trauma Dulce has been through at her tender age, she is said to still trust and love humans. Little Dulce (Spanish for SWEET, (and she is very) has already been through so much, and yet she still has a long way to go towards healing. The costs of the care that she definitely is worthy of is quickly adding up.  Please, please, won’t you help HDDR and SND with Dulce’s medical bills. Our rescues need our tax-free donations in order to stay solvent and continue the fabulous work that they do.  Please begin helping Dulce by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Sending money to a friend option in PayPal gives more (it saves the fees too)!  Or,  USPS can take care of your mail-in love for Dulce!!  One look at her Cover Babe picture and we hope you won't be able to say no to sending her some love.  We at SND thank you all so very much for your continued dedication to SND and the rescues who count on us!  Beth McCahren, Dulce's SND Case Manager.

Mimi !!

October, 2020:  Lovely Mimi traveled from a southern Texas shelter to Arkansas to the lovely folks at Ruff Tales Rescue in Arkansas. This beautiful girl, guesstimated to be 1-2 years young, is a bit of a mystery. She's missing her right foot below the ankle, but she is happy, fast and is a champion squirrel hunter. Because she is comfortable and is so well adapted to her so-called disability (she doesn't know she has one :), it is believed her condition is congenital. The other mysterious thing about Mimi is her sniffles. When she came to Ruff Tales the first week of July, she presented with a nasal discharge. She's tried every antibiotic in the PDR, without any resolution. She's undergone a nasal flush and she still has the discharge. Culture of the discharge revealed a sensitivity to Baytril and was initiated and showed some promise, but her symptoms came back as soon as the course was finished.  What all this comes down to is that Mimi cannot be diagnosed further without a preliminary CT scan, with the likelihood of further testing once the inner secrets of her nose are visible. She is such a lovely girl – just look at her thumbnail picture here - she exudes joy, loves food, people, rolling in the grass and racing around like the wind. She would feel so much better without that miserable runny nose, and with your help, her vets will get answers. Ruff Tales Rescue is run by wonderful, Rescue Angels who adore all dogs. Of course, they are non-profit, it's still very difficult to finance expensive diagnostics and they've come to us for help. When an all-breed rescue uses their resources to help one of ours – we feel compelled to help! This little doll is so adorable it's impossible to say no to her! We won’t and we hope you won’t either!! Please contribute to SND to help Mimi get rid of the sniffles so Ruff Tales can keep helping other dogs.  To begin helping Mimi please click on the PayPal button to the right.  Sending money to a friend option in PayPal gives more (it saves the fees too)!  USPS can take care of your mail-in love for Mimi!!   No amount of help is too small and it will go directly to sweet Mimi. Just take a look at the poignant picture here https://www.doberman911.org and then decide to help!! Thank you from Mimi, Ruff Tales, SND and me! Lorenzo !!

October, 2020:  Last spring (yes, just a few months ago) some non-dog people with a nice tax refund check decided they wanted a Doberman.  So they bought one without any knowledge of the breed - also without using their brains or common sense.  Doesn't it seem like common sense is a lost art or the rarest commodity on the planet??  Too bad --especially for puppies.  So little 5 month old Lorenzo lost his "forever" home once he entered the mischievous, attention needing stage.  He wasn't the cute little puppy anymore, you see.  And he was disposable.   So they disposed of him like empty fast food bags… Luckily he went to the Rescue Angels at Doberman Underground.  Little baby Lorenzo will get his chance at a real forever home.  Gwenn and her dedicated crew will see to that!  But first he needs to be healthy, and he isn't.  Lorenzo has parvo, caught from another rescued dog coming in at the same time (when it rains, it pours).  Of course his so-called family didn't believe in puppy shots.  I guess that fat refund check didn't stretch that far!  The poor little guy is in intensive care right now but we all wish him the best, don't we?  SND has joined DU in the fight for Lorenzo, won't you consider helping him too?  You can begin helping Lorenzo by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Choosing the gift option even saves the fees and helps him more!! The USPS is also ready and willing to speed your check on it's helpful way!!   No puppy should die of parvo -- not if all of us join the fight, right?  I thank you for your constant support of our SNDobies -- and for helping Lorenzo. Thank You!!!! Carol Belknap, Lorenzo's SND Case Manager.

Jasper !!

October, 2020:  Fast forward from February of this year to recently when Senior Jasper had an emergency visit to the vet (not cheap of course) for a still unknown precipitating cause of a GI incident.  Of course, dear Jasper is still one of our SND Gents and of course, we couldn't say no to his need!  He is feeling better but as any Gent of his age, he's slowing down and arthritis is kicking in.  Join us in keeping Mr. Jasper as healthy as possible in his retirement, won't you?  THANK YOU!!  SND Case Team.  Scroll down to his first February, 2020 entry (repeasted here but includes his first visit story from June of 2016 for earlier and more details).  THANKS!!
February, 2020
:  Fast forward from June of 2016 when Jasper was a much younger Dude!  He's a Senior Gent now living where he has been since then with his wonderful Foster Fasmily.  Things almost took a turn for tragedy when it was noticed that he wouldn't eat and had some breathing difficulty.  He was taken to DMR's vet for a thorough going over with bloodwork, x-rays and ultrasound.  Expensive? Yes... but luckily nothing was found to be amiss and he was improving somewhat with antibiotics for upper respiratory issues.  Luckily again, the breathing issue he was having was not due to any cardiac issues.  He has a healthy heart for a DobeGent!!  Won't you help us keep him that way?  Look at how handsome he's gotten over the years!!  THANK YOU!!  SND Case Team

Bubba !!

September, 2020:  On a rare occasion a rescue may take in a Dobe that is an owner surrender due to no fault of the dog OR the owner.  Such is the case with 10 year old Bubba, whose owner is, sadly, terminally ill. With her illness progressing and her health declining, she was beginning to have difficulty caring for Bubba.  Bubba’s owner loves him very much, enough to surrender him to the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue located in New Mexico. Being a long time Doberman advocate and rescuer herself, she requested he become a ‘forever foster.’ She knew she could trust the Rescue Angels of HDDR to provide Bubba with the very best in love, attention and health care. The HDDR Angels quickly put all of those into action when Bubba suddenly bloated - and we know what that means - off to the emergency vet and on to an emergency vet visit and surgery fee! The good news is Bubba has recovered and is doing well! However, there is a high cost to emergency care and HDDR has come to the SND family for assistance. Won’t you please be a part of those who are dedicated to helping our rescues and make a tax deductible donation of any amount to SND for Bubba. You can use PayPal (using options ‘send money & family and friends’ - you will be one of Bubba's BFFs after all thus making your gift fee free!!) or you can also use USPS.   Just make a notation ‘Bubba’ in your memo section.  As a Senior Gent dear Bubba has his own Senior Page with some great pix - just visit him here https://doberman911.org/seniors/cases/nm_bubba.html and send him some Sponsorship love too if you want!  All the rescue angels and SND are so very thankful for your ongoing support!! It’s your generosity that keeps our rescues afloat and able to take in the never ending supply of Dobes in need!  THANK YOU each and every one!!  Beth McCahren, Bubba's SND Case Manager.

China !!

September, 2020:  If one could add all the possible strikes against any dog, our beautiful China would have the dubious honor of topping the list. China belonged to a BYB somewhere in Texas when she had a litter of puppies that were promptly sold (with the exception of one). Both Mum and puppy were kept outside, where the owners would feed and water them when they remembered to. When they'd leave, they'd forget that they had two wonderful creatures waiting outside for a drink or something to eat. So, Mum and puppy took it upon themselves to visit the owner’s neighbors who were kind enough to feed them and make sure they had a good drink of water... then our girl China got hit by a car and had her leg shattered in the collision. Rather than return these dolls to the so-called owners directly, kind neighbors called them and were told they didn't want China and her baby anymore... it turned out to be the lucky break of the century. Kind neighbors contacted San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and Rescue Angels and here we are. China is currently under veterinary care, her puppy is now slated for adoption, as China will be once she recovers and is spayed. SADAR is an all-volunteer nonprofit, as are most rescues who very often have to tap the personal resources to care for their wards. Taking on a Dobe with a serious fracture and a puppy - both who probably never saw the inside of a veterinary office - is a big financial undertaking. SADAR will always take in those Dobermans who would not have a future without their help, and they have come to SND for assistance with China's expenses. She's a gorgeous girl and seeing her smile fills one's heart with sunshine. Please begin helping with a tax deductible donation to SND so SADAR can continue to save lives.  Checks are great  so send some money by mailing your check toward SND's effort to help this dear baby -PayPal works too - opt for the "send money to a friend" option saves all of us the fees.  Want a sunshine smile from our latest PosterLady?? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org and be part of her new future!! Beautiful, sparkling China, the diligent volunteers of SADAR and I thank you. Sienna !!

September, 2020:  Have you ever had a red Dobergirlie? Do you recall the days when she was a puppy? …full of vinegar and trouble? Just imagine how she would have felt, abandoned on the cold streets at 7 months old. Try to imagine how she would feel, how terrified she'd be. Meet beautiful Sienna. Somehow, this beautiful baby girl found herself wandering the back roads of West Virginia when she was hit by a car. How she got there we'll never know, but what we do know is that the person who hit this baby cared enough to get her to an emergency vet, which is quite possibly the most fortuitous thing to happen in Sienna's young life. These kind emergency veterinarians contacted Rescue Angel Gwenn of Doberman Underground, and Sienna is getting the help she will need... and she needs a good amount of help! She has bilateral hip fractures and some very nasty skin injuries... but, she will run, chase frisbee's and be someone's once in a lifetime girl. DU and SND have helped countless Dobermans over the years. Sienna will need surgery of course and at her age the best approach is placing an acetabular curved plate in her pelvis so the bolts and screws will hold her hips in place as she grows and heals. This is EXPENSIVE... like nearly $5000.00 expensive not including aftercare and some rehab.   Now that I've told you that, take a look at your red girl.  Get out your checkbook and send some money by mailing your check toward SND's effort to help this dear baby! Using the PayPal button works too - opting for the "send money to a friend" option even saves all of us the fees. Help Sienna grow up knowing people care and love her. Need an "aww moment?" from our latest Poster Girlie?? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org and be part of healing her!! Thank you from Sienna, Doberman Underground, SND, and me along with Hesper, my own Red Girlie. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager and lover of redheads!

Ariel !!

September, 2020:  For all of her 9 years, Ariel lived outside.  Some twist of fate (a large explosion) caused her "family home" to be declared unfit for human occupancy (apparently, it never was fit for her either).  Again (and I am getting tired of saying this) the lives of Ariel and her fellow Dobermans were saved by being dumped.  They were both in poor condition but Ariel was the worst of the two.  Ariel was low energy and was considered to be a "failure to thrive" case. Plus--big surprise--she is heart worm positive.  I imagine she might thrive a little better without them, don't you?  High Desert Doberman Rescue didn't hesitate when they were offered the job of restoring this little red beauty to something more resembling her name.  They got both dogs safely into their caring arms, but could use help killing "dem damn" worms.  Please consider joining HDDR and SND in the battle for Ariel's heart!  I'm always asking you to help in the worm wars and I know it won't stop here… but it is important to each new dog.  We can't just say we helped the last one - we need to say we helped this one! To begin helping Ariel please click on the PayPal button to the right.  Sending money to a friend option in PayPal gives more (it saves the fees too)!  USPS does their part too, it's what I do…  No amount of help is too small.  No amount of your loving care is too little and it will go directly to sweet Ariel.   Miss Ariel also has a Senior page here:   https://doberman911.org/seniors/cases/nm_ariel.html   Why not visit her there for more pix and a convenient way to send her some Sponsorship love?  Thank you for always helping with each new SNDobie!!!!  Carol Belknap, Worm Warrior and Ariel's SND Case Manager.

September, 2020:  How often have I said (sadly) that being dumped by their family is the best thing that could have happened to one of our beautiful Dobes?  Too often.  Unfortunately, it is true again.  Five year old Jack was surrendered to animal control because his owner was in an accident and required months, if not years, of physical therapy.  Animal control called  RescueAngels Jean and Barbie at Canine Rescue in South Carolina because he knew they would put him through a screening process rather than him going to the first person with money who wanted a big, tough dog.  This was Jack's big break!  Honestly, it should not take being dumped for life to improve, but thankfully there are people who care. Jack is very thin currently but we know that will change and soon! He is also heartworm positive and has begun his doxycycline and will start the injections of immiticide. So begins the road back to healthier than he's probably been in years. He was happy to see his Angels when they picked him up and hopped right in to his ride to the good life. Please consider helping Canine Rescue and SND kill more worms! I really haven't "bugged" you guys with many heartworm cases this summer, but that doesn't mean the battle is over by any means!  When an all-breed rescue helps one of ours, how can we possibly NOT help??  Right, we can't!! You can begin helping Jack by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Opting for the "send money to a friend" option even saves all of us the fees!  The U.S. Mail is always willing to deliver your check and no amount is ever too small.   Everything helps and every penny will go toward Jack's medical bills. Please join the Worm Wars on the side of the Good Guys!!! Again, and always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support of our SNDobies' hearts!!! Thank you!! Cotton !!

September, 2020:  The sweetheart I’m going to tell you about is Cotton, an eight year old albinoid DoberGent (hence his name ).  He was a stray with absolutely no background who was taken in by an all-breed rescue whose goal was to find him the perfect home.   However, Cotton was diagnosed with heart worms, (YES, another case of heart worms!!), a heart murmur and an axillary mass.  All of these medical issues were more than the all breed rescue could handle which led them to contact the Rescue Angels of Doberman Underground of West Virginia.  Although surgical intervention would be needed for the axillary mass, the treating veterinarian naturally wanted Cotton’s heart to be in optimal health prior to surgery by ridding it of those nasty heart worms first.   Sounds reasonable… until the mass began to grow very very quickly and was impeding Cotton’s ability to walk.  Cancer was suspected and it was decided to excise the mass.  Not only was the mass positive for cancer, it had already metastasized and was spreading throughout Cotton’s body, making it untreatable.  The only loving option was to assist Cotton over The Bridge.  Although Cotton wasn’t able to be saved, it doesn’t relieve the DU Angels of his veterinary fees.  Won’t you please honor Cotton and DU with a tax deductible gift of any amount.  NO donation is ever too small and each and every one is greatly appreciated.  It’s your gifts that keep the Doberman rescues afloat!  Mega thanks to all!! You can begin helping with Cotton's final expenses by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Opting for the "send money to a friend" option even saves all of us the fees!  The USPS can deliver your check and eliminates fees too.  Mega thanks to all!! Day-Z !!

September, 2020:  It never ceases to amaze how some people can disregard the health and care of such majestic animals, but we see it every day, unfortunately! Take Day-Z for instance, a beautiful 10 year old girl who was probably bred every cycle. Now that she has health issues, just throw her away like yesterday's garbage. Too bad her owner didn't use some of those puppy $$$ to pay for vet care!  Luckily, Day-Z was surrendered to the Rescue Angels of Georgia Doberman Rescue with a much younger female in much better health than Day-Z.  At least a rescue was sought out instead to dumping them in a kill shelter!  Day-Z has pyometra, which is an infection in the uterus that is life threatening, a mammary mass and of course the dreaded heartworm! The two were surrendered because the owner could no longer afford their care of which there was little! They both have clearly been bred in the past and it was also clear they were not well taken care of.  Her foster noticed Day-Z had a discharge and got an appointment with the veterinarian where the pyometra was diagnosed. The mammary mass became obvious when she came into rescue.  Rescue is assuming she was kept outside due to her heartworm status.  This girl has the sweetest face you have ever seen and I am sure a personality to match.  Hopefully the mass will be benign and once spayed and heartworm-treated, her health will improve.  Until then Georgia Doberman Rescue sure could use some help with her vet expenses. Wait until you see her sweet face, you will fall in love, she is such a lovely lady!  So, please help her to get back on her feet once more and enjoy the life she should have had for the past 10 years! She’ll soon have her own Senior’s Page seeking sponsorship too and we will add that link here!!  No donation is ever too small and every cent will be used to help Miss Day-Z!  Please do what you can and THANK YOU in advance. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation.  THANK YOU from Day-Z, GDR and SND! Nancy Harwood, SND Case Manager.

Kelsey !!

September, 2020:  When Doberman Pinscher Rescue gets a call from animal control about a hugely pregnant Dobe what are they gonna do? Rush to get her to a safe foster haven, of course! Kelsey was not only extremely pregnant but little more than a baby herself. Possibly 2 years old… want to bet she got bred on her first heat?  Then dumped (Look Ma, the dog is getting real fat, quit feeding her so much).  Obviously they figured out what was going on in time to dump her -- just in time as it happens. She was already displaying milk and obviously uncomfortable. The next day she became more and more uncomfortable and she went to the vet to be examined and X-rayed just to avoid any crisis that might be looming. The next day she went into labor and began delivering puppies. Adorable little doberkins, no non-Dobe markings, and so very precious! Unfortunately halfway through her delivery she started having trouble with the 6th pup. She began expelling a green discharge from her placenta and her distress was escalating so at 3am Colleen was in the ER with the whole family. With some IV fluids and some Oxytocin, birthing resumed. Not quickly but surely… (Colleen actually managed an hour's sleep in the parking lot). The last puppy decided to stay inside long enough for surgery discussions to start before making her delayed appearance. 11 beautiful bits of Dober-wonderfulness!!! Invited adopters are already lined up!!! Kelsey is doing well and is an incredible mother. She is super sweet -- hopefully she passes that trait on to all her babies! DPR and SND are trying to get Kelsey's expenses covered, and they aren't over yet, there is still a spay to come. No more babies for this baby! Please consider helping Kelsey and the babes get a real chance at life!! No help is ever too little and every penny will go to sweet Kelsey!! You may begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, keep in mind "gifts to friends and family" give even more! Or you can always drop it in the mail, like I do. Thank you so much for taking the time to care!!! And huge thanks for your ongoing support of these precious SNDobies and DPR's effort on their behalf!!! Carol Belknap, Kelsey's SND Case Manager.

Lasso !!

August, 2020:  Seems that sometimes those with the sweetest of smiles are the sickest... This darling is six year old Lasso, who is making his home with the RescueAngels at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. He was surrendered to rescue when his family had to move into an apartment.   About 10 days ago, Lasso was lethargic (it was 104 degrees out, I'd be feeling lazy, too) but a day or two later, Lasso really was feeling miserable, so off to the vets he went.  He's been tested every which way, and some of the results point to pancreatitis - a painful, yucky and dangerous condition that affects both humans and dogs.  Lasso's platelets are fluctuating and his appetite is intermittent, so this diagnosis is not a done deal.  Further testing is needed and is being done.  In the past week, there are times Lasso feels pretty good, other times, not so good. He has now been hospitalized for 10 days and his devoted vets are digging deep into case histories and consulting colleagues for any helpful information, as is Ardis and her army. This guy's smile is more delightful than a warm summer day... just imagine the smile he'll give us when he's well!! AND that's where we come in. Doberman Pinscher Rescue saves hundreds of Dobes EVERY YEAR, and this work costs money - furthermore, just imagine more than a week's stay in a veterinary hospital ($$$$.$$). Please, won't you send a donation SND's way to help defray the costs of Lasso's hospitalization and diagnostics? You can use the PayPal on the right (if using PayPal, please use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your donation fee free), or, you can just mail one in.  Just need another sweet smile to Lasso your heart? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  I promise, he'll have a smile for you brighter than all the stars in the sky... THANK YOU from Lasso, Ardis’ Angel Army and me! Vinny !!

August, 2020:  This handsome guy with the very special ears is Vinny!  He’s an elderly Doberdude with a guesstimate age of approximately eight years.  As is commonly the case, we know very little about this charmer. The Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue located in New Mexico were contacted by another rescue group in Texas who had Vinny in their care.   Vinny had exhibited failure to thrive and very low energy levels.   HDDR graciously agreed to accept Vinny and his medical case and do whatever was needed to discover why Vinny was in the state that he was. The final diagnosis revealed Vinny was positive for heartworm.   Heartworm, so easy to avoid with a monthly dose of medication that isn’t even that costly.  But what IS costly (not to mention painful) is the long term treatment for heartworm infestation. And the treatment has to be provided or the host of the heartworms will, without a shadow of doubt, die a slow and horrible death.  The HDDR Angels weren’t, under any circumstances, going to allow that to happen. They lovingly provided Vinny with the long and costly care he needed.  Due to ongoing medical cases, HDDR has come to the SND community requesting assistance with regards to Vinny’s vet expenses necessary to rid him of this scourge.  No one would want to see a Dobe turned away from rescue because there was no medical funds available, so please, won’t you join our SND family and donate whatever you can to help Vinny’s saviors?  NO amount is ever too small and every cent goes to the Vinny’s treatment costs. You can opt to use the USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal, please click on the ‘friends/family’ tab as well as the ‘send money’ tab to keep your tax-free gift fee-free too). Thank you from our hearts for your continuous generosity. Oh, and don’t forget to treat your canines with a monthly heartworm preventative!!  You want to see more Vinny?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   If you want to see Vinny's magic ears, He also has a Senior Page loaded with pix! Jewel !!

August, 2020:  We have a new little girly to talk about. Her name is Jewel, she is about 4 yrs old but it is hard to say for sure until they get her healthy again. She was found tied to a pole not far from a shelter in California. The fact that she was tied outside the shelter tells me she had an owner who cared little about her or she would not have been in such bad condition. Jewel has the worst case of mange anyone at Dog Mountian Rescue has ever seen and the vet said the same thing! She might be blue or she might be black, she has some black on her body with grey dappling (follicle trauma?) on it. Her head is covered with callouses. She still has front dew claws so we figure because of the dew claws she was backyard bred. It is very hard to comprehend how anyone could allow a dog to get into this condition. She doesn't know how to walk on a leash and has to be carried, although bribing with bites of Whopper seems to be helping that issue :). She is very loving and shows no dog-on-dog aggression and simply loves her people! She is truly loving all the one-on-one attention she is getting now that she is out of a bad situation. She has some other problems but they are hoping it is all due to the mange. She has been on ivermectin and fluconazole for a month and will probably be on those for another month, maybe longer. After three weeks of good food, served regularly, a safe place to live, a friendly environment and medication, she has shown an 80% improvement since she was first brought to the clinic. All the crusty callouses are gone from her back, they are still on her head and face and around her ears, so there is still a lot of work to do but she is going to be a very pretty girl once all this is gone. She is also being treated for giardia and she was very malnourished when she arrived at the shelter. All her labs indicate chronic inflammation nothing more, hopefully! This is going to be a long recovery for this sweet and loving girl as she didn't get into this condition overnight. If you can help Jewel and Dog Mountian Rescue it would be greatly appreciated. You can begin helping Jewel by using USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal, please use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your donation fee free).   Thank you again for helping Miss Jewel (she is a jewel you know... :) - from her, DMR and SND too!!  Nancy Harwood, SND Case Manager.

Rocco !!

August, 2020:  Rocco is probably 8 years old or so--and he is a great example of a senior Dober-dude. Our seniors are so very precious! I like to think we have worked hard to keep our breed going strong well into old age… but Rocco's people didn't care about any of that as they dumped him. He didn't get treated like the special guy he is, he just got abandoned.   He came into animal control as a stray. He was obviously older and in bad condition. His teeth were badly damaged. He had a near baseball growing out of one "arm pit", as well as a number of other smaller growths. He was dirty as dirty could be and because of his age and health issues he was labelled "rescue only". No one would even get a chance to see him, let alone save him. The officer in charge was delighted when Doberman Rescue of Nevada said they were on their way to save this very friendly, goofball. The Getters have never let a Doberman down, and they didn't intend to start now!  Before they could get there the officer called back to say Rocco was now in quarantine as a bite case--facing euthanasia. He had been so happy about being rescued and touched and loved… he offered to play… and a staffer had played. Somehow a very painful spot or a shattered tooth with an exposed root. Whichever. Didn't matter because he had bitten the arm of the staffer (typical response to pain in any animal).  He then retreated and showed no signs of aggression--only pain. His happy outlook was close to costing him his life!  DRNV aggressively worked with the officer and the county animal control board, the only people with the authority to spare him at the end of his 10 days of quarantine. DRNV had to jump through a few hoops, sign a few extra piles of papers and pay a fine but he was released to them. Finally he could begin treatment! His surgery was long and the dental was very challenging, but he came through very well. He seems to know tomorrow is coming and it looks just fine. The growths were benign and his poor painful mouth is healing. His heart and everything else are good--he can't wait for someone looking for a big, friendly, goofy boy who is a "young" senior! Someone will be lucky to have this happy boy in their life--he can't help it, it's his nature to make them happy too! Please consider joining DRNV and SND in the happiness.  Give to Rocco now too! You'll see, you'll realize you're smiling when you're done! You may begin smiling now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right and clicking on donation. Or you may mail one in and make USPS smile too! As always I sincerely appreciate your continued (happy) support of SND and our SNDobies!!! Want another look at a very handsome Senior Dude? Beretta !!

July, 2020:  Meet 4 year old Mr. Beretta who almost didn't make it to 5 years old!  In the combined decades all of us have shared our lives with dogs, it's probably a good bet that everyone can agree that there is nothing more terrifying than a dogfight. This is what - very sadly - happened to Ardis and Colleen at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California recently. A gate was improperly latched and out came one of their dominant non dog-friendly males, Tobias.  The first thing Tobias saw was Beretta, another male, and instantly, disaster ensued. For what felt like forever, the two women tried grabbing rear legs, blasts from the hose and grabbing one or the other by their waist.  Finally, Colleen was able to pull Beretta away.  Both Colleen and Beretta were literally covered with blood.  Beretta's JUGULAR vein was torn and he was pumping blood all over himself, Colleen, Ardis and the ground.  While Colleen had two fingers in Beretta's neck, Ardis grabbed the clamps - the kind you attach to picnic tables so your tablecloth won't blow away - and they applied it to Beretta's jugular where Colleen's fingers had been. This stopped the flow adequately enough that they were able to put Beretta in the car and drive like Jackie Stewart to the nearest emergency vet (read, expensive).  When the medical personnel saw him, they gave him less than a 50/50 chance to survive.  Amazingly, Beretta, by strength of will that only Dobermans have, not only has survived, he is doing well.  Personally, I have been in the middle of a couple dog fights; they are incredibly ugly and frightening, leaving me with a sense of something horrible is hanging just behind a shadow.   Precautions have been taken so that incidents such as this one will never, ever happen again.  Tobias and Beretta will still be loved and cared for - will never even know the other exists.  Now, for the bill to sew Beretta back together... it's over $4300.00, and we at SND are stepping up to help. With profound thanks to Colleen and Ardis (and the company that makes those table clamps...), Beretta will soon get rid of those staples and be able to simply be a happy go lucky boy once again. Please, be part of his miracle.  You can start helping Beretta now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. If you have the friends and family option, it means even a little more goes toward Beretta's expenses. Of course, you may also mail one!  No amount is ever too small and 100% will be applied to Beretta's bill!   Need another look at a very handsome, high-caliber DobeDude? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Thank you from everyone at SND, Doberman Pinscher Rescue, Beretta and me.  Les Michell-Young, SND Case Manager ...and I've always liked Berettas, especially one of this gorgeous caliber!

Sawyer !!

July, 2020:  Sawyer is a six year old, was a well-loved and well taken care of sweet Doberboy until his owner was unexpectedly taken to the hospital and Sawyer was left to fend for himself. His owner’s family said "just put him down," but the neighbors knew he was a great dog and took him into their own family. The new owner's dogs didn’t much care for Sawyer so the poor boy was relegated to the porch, in a laundry room and the back yard for two months before the RescueAngels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania were notified. The DPRPA angels retrieved sweet Sawyer and quickly noticed that he had some obvious issues.  His balance was off, he would look around as if he didn’t know where he was, and he was also bumping into things. He would stay in one area once evening approached and there was less light. After an MRI and spinal tap were done, he was found to be negative for a tumor, but was diagnosed with chorioretinitis lesions in both eyes due to Lyme disease. The MRI of his brain showed no structural abnormalities and the spinal tap ruled out meningitis/neuritis. As you can well imagine, these necessary tests came at quite a cost, however, DPRPA knows that Sawyer is worth every penny it takes to help restore his health! Please, if you are able, won’t you make a tax deductible donation to help offset the vet fees?  ANY amount is appreciated, no amount is ever too small! You can use USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal, please use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your donation fee free). YOUR gifts are what helps to keep the rescues solvent so they are able to help present and future Dobermans return to health enabling them to move on to their new lives. SND, the rescues and of course the DOBES are very grateful for your continuous generosity!  Just need another look at a very dapper DobeDude? Ginger !!

July, 2020:  Poor Miss Ginger!  Six months later and all the past insults to her system, she's still suffering those effects while the Angels at DMR try to figure out WHAT her continuing issues might be, read: veterinary consultations and interventions = $$. She has been suffering with what appears to be IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) - with seemingly intractable diarrhea. Treatments for that have proven ineffective so, to save her, getting a firm diagnosis which will hopefully determine the right course of treatment for the future is imperative.  EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) is suspected but again, more testing to get a better diagnosis/handle on Ginger's issues will be required, read: costly consult with internal medicine and the additional testing that might entail.  You can help us with our continuing efforts to give Ginger the best possible future - she deserves it and she's certainly worth it!  Donation instructions are listed below.  THANK YOU one an all for your support of Miss Ginger!!  SND Case Management Team
January, 2020
:  Look at this sweet face! Her name is Ginger. Ginger is a red girl about 3-4 years old, turned in to a Northern California County Shelter by her owner. At the time she was approximately one year old. Owner lived in an apartment and Ginger lived outside. She was not spayed and not up to date on vaccines, no chip and owner didn't know how she was with other dogs or cats! She does like children! She was very fearful and nervous in the shelter and was very stressed. Can't blame the poor baby! All she wanted was attention. Dog Mountian Rescue was notified by a Doberman list in CA that she was in the shelter. Ginger was not approved for general adoption due to her stress level and shyness. Unbelievable to me that someone could have a lovely girl like Ginger and totally ignore her! So, Ginger has been in rescue for some time now and has always been a great eater, so, on Friday 12-27-2019 when she refused to eat her breakfast they knew something was not right. The rescue's vet clinic is closed on weekends so they decided to watch her very closely over the weekend. She was taken to the vet Monday morning as she refused any food over the weekend, although she was drinking water. The vet kept her for the day and did testing finding nothing accept a slightly elevated while blood count. The vet wanted to keep her overnight for observation which is something they don't usually do. As they were talking the vet noticed blood coming from Ginger's nose. So next morning she was put under anesthetic to see what was going on and found three very bad teeth which were extracted. Due to bone loss her gums had to be sutured. Obviously this was the problem as her appetite came back quite quickly. She also had a little gastritis which didn't help her appetite. So finally, with a large bag of medications, she was able to go home where she slowly began to eat soft food and softened kibble. She is currently doing very well and gaining weight. Ginger is once again excited to see her meals coming. Her recovery will take some time, but once her antibiotics are finished she should be fine. Dog Mountian Rescue needs our help paying for her vet care and hopefully she willl be adoptable soon. Once you see Ginger's sweet, sweet face you will only want to help this very young, lovely girl. Thank you in advance for all you do for these beautiful souls. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in your donation. Every little bit helps, please share Ginger's story on your social media and with anyone who loves animals. Want another shot of Red Lady Love??  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Tasker !!

July, 2020 :  Please say hello to Mr. Tasker once again!  He first came to SND back in October of 2018 when he was 3 years old.  He's still a beautiful boy and he still lives with our friends at Dog Mountain Rescue in California.   Tasker was pulled from a shelter in 2017 and is living the life he should, still waiting for that special forever family to adopt him.   He gave everyone a scare with a lump on his shoulder. After diagnoses and biopsies, the fear of mailgnant tumor was put to rest.  Fast forward to summer of 2020 and Tasker presented with some growths that appeared to be the ghosts of former fears.  Taking that possibility into consideration, Ann took him to DMR's vets for a closer look.  Whew!!  We're happy to say that these growths turned out to be furuncles - not to be dismissed as they can become quite painful.  One of the bumps was removed and analyzed which confirmed the folliculitis. Tasker will be getting the treatments he needs to eliminate the infections and hopefully will be back on alert for family prospects real soon.  SND will join forces with DMR to keep Tasker healthy... won't you join us?  Sure you will!!  You can start helping Tasker today by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. If you have the friends and family option, it means even a little more goes toward Tasker's expenses. Of course, you may also mail one! Thank you from dear Tasker once again and from Ann and her friends at Dog Mountain!  Les Michell-Young, Tasker's SND Case Manager.

Tyson !!

June, 2020:  Somewhere in the 3 or 4 years since he was a cared for cropped-docked-neutered puppy, Tyson fell on hard times. Lost? Abandoned? No one knows…   What we do know is he showed up as a stray with a bad limp and bullet fragments in his chest.  Bad luck turned to good luck when he fell into the loving arms of Dobies and Little Paws Rescue out there in Filmore, California. They got him to Four Paws Veterinary Hospital right away. The bullet fragments were easy to resolve--his mangled toe, not so much.  Plus, it was not a brand new injury, and he'd had plenty of practice at licking and chewing on it.  Removing the toe did not bring him any measure of comfort and during the months to follow it became clear he would never improve.  He could always find a way to chew and bite his own foot, doing unfixable damage.  His poor leg became alien to him, as though no longer part of his own body.  He would bark at it--for hours on end.  Finally the decision was made to amputate.  They had to give him peace of mind; plus the chance of infection was frightening. Post amputation he is a new dog!  He took to 3 legs very quickly (well, that other thing was just in the way, right?).  Now he is at peace and can focus on the rest of his life, he is a little shy but very loving. Please consider joining DPR and SND in the battle for his comfort and peace. You may begin helping Tyson by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (gift options add even more); or by mailing one in. Rizzo !!

June, 2020:  Rizzo has come a VERY long way since March, but, he hit a snag on the road to full recovery.  Rizzo was off his food and seemed slow and lethargic with no appetite which had been voracious given his emaciated condition.  Fearing the worst - bloat, blockage, cancer - he was rushed to the ER where it became apparent that his stomach and duodenum looked distended.  You guessed it!  Emergency surgery for blockage... on a weekend... and the expenses accompanying this event.  Fortunately, HDDR has sympathetic vets which kept costs lower than the would have been at other emergency clinics.  Rizzo is recovering very well in spite of fighting this in the weakened state of his initial condition.  He likely would not have survived had this happened in March.  Please, let's help Rizzo on his road to health by using the same donate instructions below.  HDDR puts themselves on the line everyday for Dobermans like Rizzo - we are committed to joining them continue their work!!  THANK YOU!!!
March, 2020
:  Rizzo is at least 6 to 8 years old. It's hard to tell because of his condition, but he's definitely a senior. You all know by now how I feel about seniors, they are the best. So very precious… Yet Rizzo and his mate, Zelda (see her obit, published a few days ago) most likely got to senior hood in a neglected, horrible downslide culminating in being dumped at some shelter. A local rescue group saved them but knew they could never afford to fix them so they called Anthony and his Rescue Angels at High Desert Doberman Rescue. They were battling giardia, coccidia, anaplasmosis, erlichia and general failure to thrive. Unfortunately help came too late for his Zelda, but with the right medicines, Rizzo is slowly improving. His road will be long--and lonely without Zelda--but at least he still has a road to go down… with your help that is… Please join HDDR and SND in our commitment to Rizzo. He surely deserves something out of his life and this is the only chance he's going to get. Look at his face, know his story and decide to help. You may begin helping Rizzo by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, remember the gift option evens gives him the fees! The USPS will also get help to him, even in these pandemic days. No help is too little and every penny will go directly to Rizzo. I personally am looking forward to Anthony's promised updates, his pictures will show the help he's receiving. Amos !!

June, 2020:  Amos - a darling DobeBoy (aren't they all darling?) with some physical issues we told you about in April!  As many puppyhoods go, he spent the time playing, getting into mischief and being totally adored in his foster family's home.  Of course, he's continued helping his BFF do her homework every chance he could!  He also did some gardening and tilling of flower beds (yeah... you know what kind of help that can be... :)  Well, like most rambunctious little boys, there was bound to be some unforeseen bit of mischief that could have claimed his young life.  Thanks to the watchful eye of his folks, the signs and symptoms of an impending GI catastrophe was quickly brought to the attention of DRCO and he was rushed to emergency surgery to clear a blockage...  He has recovered very quickly given his young age but the impact remains and was increased on DRCO's budget.  SND and you all committed to helping with the orthopedic needs he presented in April, but now we need your help with this setback!  Won't you join us and continue the promise of eventual good health and prospects to this imp?  We can't say no and hope you can't either - donation info is the same - PayPal or USPS will do the trick! THANK YOU!!

:  Amos is a 5 month old Doberpup that was recently "surrendered" (read: rescue or dump at the shelter) to Doberman Rescue of Colorado.  Amos came to DRCO along with two other litter mates.  All three were faced with demodex and then staph infections. Proper care and medical attention are resolving those issues and the two litter mates were easily adopted. Amos wasn't so lucky as he has other issues facing him before adoption can take place. He began noticeably favoring a foreleg. Closer examination revealed that the radius and ulna were not growing properly and could not allow the bones to develop in a normal way. His litter mates had the same issue but it resolved with proper nutrition and exercise. Amos again... was not so lucky!! The solution at this point is orthopedic surgery to detach the two bones allowing the radius to float free.  As the growth plates develop and proper growth of both bones takes place the two will be reattached.  One ortho surgery would be expensive but poor Amos will require TWO surgeries!  Amidst the complicating of schedules during this pandemic, while awaiting the final diagnosis and treatment plan for the leg reconstruction, Amos experienced an early morning bowel obstruction emergency.  STRIKE THREE in the luck department but he is not out!!  He was taken to an emergency clinic where he was examined and x-rayed and then transported out of emergency care to DRCO's regular vets. He has had his surgery and reports are he is recovering very well without the need for resection of the intestine.  The expenses involved with two surgeries was bad enough, this emergency just tripled the impact on DRCO's budget!  We're not letting them go it alone and DRCO is working hard to raise $$ from all sources possible!  Amos is a real trooper. He is exceptionally bright, alert and active. And he learns at a remarkable rate. He will be a wonderful family member that is athletic and intelligent.  Please begin helping Amos by clicking on the PayPal button to the right--the send money to friends option in PayPal gives him even more! You can also make your tax deductible donation by mailing it in -  as always, every cent will go to helping Amos!! Thank you for all you do for this very deserving little DobeDude!!  Want to see him doing homework with his Foster Sis while basking in her loving arms??  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   THANKS!! Fritz !!

May, 2020:  He has that baby face that completely conquers the heart... Dear Fritz is around 7 and has been a longtime resident at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California, happily coexisting with a whole community of Dobermans. Twice, he was adopted out and twice he was returned, through no fault of his own.  He's a good boy and has always provided a cheerful presence... but big trouble loomed.  Early the second week of April, Fritz was feeling out of sorts. His usual spirited demeanor was waning; he refused food.  This behavior persisted and the next day, the 12th, Fritz was taken to one of DPR's veterinarians. Upon x-ray, there was a solid blockage in his GI and the vet felt it would be such a tricky surgery that if the attempt were made, it would kill this dear boy. He was put on fluids and pain medication and sent home. This prognosis did not sit well with everyone who loves Fritz, and the next day, another vet appointment was made and Fritz was off to meet another doctor. This particular vet would try a number of different approaches, as further x-ray studies demonstrated that the obstruction had not moved.  This must have been a very miserable day for our boy.  Ultimately, the vet decided to attempt surgery and finally after long last, dear Fritz is very much alive - and recovering steadily!  A rock. Fritz, for some bizarre reason, ingested a rock large enough and just the precise shape that it lodged in his lower intestine like a cork in a cask of Amontillado... and the brick wall was nearly sealed shut.  As one can well imagine, this terrifying misadventure was not only as horrific as the Poe story, the bill has proved equally terrifying.  What price for a life? What would YOU pay to possibly save the life of someone you loved?  Dear Fritz is so fortunate to be loved by the angels of DPR, who put their financial solvency on the line to save lives nearly every day. DPR simply needs us and the supporters of Special Needs Dobermans to continue the important - the lifesaving- work they do. Please donate. Please share Fritz's story, so DPR can continue their mission. You can start now by making a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation. Thank you from me, Fritz and DPR's army of angels.    Thank you for all you do for these deserving Dobermans!  Want to see another look at a chaming Red Senior? Fletcher !!

May, 2020:  Our man Fletcher is one of SND’s newest cases. He and his female Doberman companion were turned into a shelter as ‘strays’,  (strays, dumps, it’s anyone’s guess…).  His approximate age is 4 years old.  Who knows how old he actually is or how long he’s lived on the streets alongside his buddy.  Of course we all know that any dog living on the streets is in an ominous situation for a multitude of reasons. However, in this case even more so because the female Dobe is also blind! Due to the female’s blindness she was released from the shelter immediately into rescue.  While kenneled together in the shelter, dear, loyal Fletcher remained right by her side giving her the companionship, confidence and guidance blind dogs require. Because of this devoted attachment (missing from their so called ‘humans’ in their previous life), Fletcher was released with her. They were immediately rescued by the Angels of Dobies and Little Paws based in southern California.  Just prior to Fletcher’s neutering, the ever observant Rescue Angels noted two suspicious looking nipples on his chest as well as his need for entropion surgery (his lower lids were turned inward).  We can all relate to how irritating an eyelash is in our eye.  Well, just think of your whole lower lids rubbing your eyes 24/7!  He endured this every single day for his entire life!  DLP wasted no time in addressing these dire situations and we at SND have been asked to assist in the veterinarian fees.  DLP takes in many, many medical cases and cannot continue to do so without outside support. Please consider a donation of any amount at all. Your gift is tax deductible and every cent will go toward Fletcher’s surgery fees. You may use USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal please use the ‘friends & family’ and ‘send money’ tabs to keep your donation ‘fee free’.)  As always, we extend our deepest gratitude to you, our supporters! Want to see breathtaking look at dear Mr. Fletcher? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANKS!!  Fletcher, here’s to you and a pain free ever after!!  Beth McCahren, Fletcher's SND Case Manager.

Conrad !!

April, 2020:  Hello friends and lovers of Dobermans!  Is it just me or do others wonder how anyone could treat any animal this way? Meet Conrad, a lovely red boy of approximately seven years of age. Apparently taken to a vet in Oakland, CA and never reclaimed by his owner! The vets tried to find Conrad a home but all efforts failed given that he is a Senior - ageism in Dobes is just mean not to mention dumb! He was then taken to Oakland Animal Shelter. The shelter was going to neuter him, but found he has vWd and they didn't feel comfortable doing the surgery due to bleeding issues. Dog Mountain Rescue Angels stepped up and agreed to take Conrad. He was taken to one of DMR's vets who neutered him without any complications! They did find that his kidneys needed some support and so he was put on Hills K/D diet, he also had a bout with pancreatitis but recovered from that. This poor guy just cannot win, but obviously has a strong will to live. Conrad was also found to have some horrible dental problems (uh, nobody else notice this?), so once he had been with DMR for awhile and all settled in he was scheduled for a dental. Untimately 13 teeth were removed! A very expensive undertaking but absolutely necessary for Conrads health. He is being fed several small meals a day of canned K/D until his mouth is healed and can eat solid food again. All of us with dogs know how expensive these procedures are, not to mention the prescription food, so please think about what you can do to help Conrad and Dog Mountian Rescue with his vet expenses. Once you look into his eyes you will not be able to say no! Other than being saved by DMR, this boy can't seem to catch a break!  Lets all pitch in and help him recover. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation. Thank you for all you do for these deserving Dobermans!  Want to see a handsome Red Senior? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   THANKS!! Nancy Harwood, Conrad's SND Case Manager.

Stoli !

April, 2020

April, 2020:  Sweet Stoli (AKA Potato) began showing some off and on again interest in his food which he always ate ravenously.  And then, he decided (or his body did) that it was time for a hunger strike!  Of course, Jeannine became concerned for this VERY sweet Potato and took him in for a Senior wellness check.  Bloodwork was done and he was put on fluids, B12 and an appetite stimulant.  After spending some time in the hospital, he perked up for a burger on the way home... hmmmm, holding out for a better offer?  We'll make sure that's all it is in the meantime.  J9's needs a little help for this Senior Potato and we are committed to seeing that he gets what he needs!!  Won't you help us do that?  Sure you will!  Who could turn down a SWEET POTATO named for some fine Vodka??  Donation instructions are below in his initial case - or the handy PayPal button on your right!  THANK YOU from Stoli, J9 and SND too!!
October, 2019
:  A Gent named Stoli and J9's rescue in Detroit, Michigan need our help! Stoli is and albinoid Senior Doberman, 10 and a half years young.  His "caring owner" surrendered him just because he didn't want him anymore, WHAT?!  His owner went on vacation leaving Stoli with a friend and never returned to pick him up. WHAT?? Stoli is a big boy, 95 pounds of sweetness - the friend was moving into an apartment, not the best life for a large boy like Stoli. So, the friend called the owner and asked him to come get his dog.  The owner told the friend: "Just get rid of him!"  Just like this beautiful Doberman is a piece of trash to be thrown away with last weeks garbage! Thank goodness the friend reached out to Jeanine at J9's rescue in Detroit! Stoli is the sweetest dog on the planet, according to Jeanine. He loves everyone and everything! He is friends with dogs, cats and even the rabbits in the house. He is silly and goofy, like most Doberboys, and doesn't act his age at all. Unfortunately being albinoid he is prone to certain conditions - sensitivity to sun in skin and eyes. He is covered in warts and skin growths cause by the genetic mutation in pigmentation. Some of the growths were removed after he was surrendered, but the growths have returned and are larger and have turned black and are very concerning. They need to be removed. All the growths, his age, his size and being white have unfortunately made him a Sanctuary dog - NOT that that's the worst thing that could happen to an old soldier!!  Just look at Stoli, a face that needs to be loved and kissed even with all the bumps and lumps, he is a beautiful soul. He has an appointment to check these growths and find out if they are anything to be concerned about. The vet recommended leaving the ones around his eyes although they are starting to impair his vision. We are all hoping all the growths can be removed successfully with no cancer. Even though he is older and has all these growths, Stoli deserves to have a stable, loving home to live out his Senior years. This rescue needs our help to accomplish this for this sweet guy. Please help if you are able, no donation is too small. You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button or by mailing in your donation. Thank you and don't forget to pass Stoli's story on to social media and anywhere that may be able to help with this gent's expenses.  Want to help Stoli enjoy his retirement with a few extras?  Send him a Sponsorship after you visit him here https://doberman911.org/seniors/cases/mi_stoli.html.   We all THANK YOU very much!! Stoli, J9 and SND Case Manager, Nancy Harwood.

Christian !!

April, 2020:  This delightful adolescent is 3 year old Christian, who came to the attention of the ever vigilant conch shells of Dog Mountain Rescue in California. Poor Christian suddenly found his home shattered when his Dad died and Dad's wife felt overwhelmed and decided to surrender Christian (and yes, I don't even want to go there...). When he arrived at DMR in August of 2019, they were told that Chris had a condition referred to as "red eye" in his right eye, but he had surgery and all was well - although they were told the problem could return. Fast forward to early Spring, and poor Chris started to develop a rapidly growing nodule on his eye and he went off to DMR's wonderful vet, Dr. Victoria, for a look-see. A repeat surgery was undertaken, and our handsome boy is recovering nicely. Christian is your typical happy, energetic, intelligent and strong male Dobe - who, unfortunately, had not had a lot of guidance in his young life. At DMR, our boy Chris is getting the attention and direction he needs to become a Dobe of a lifetime. DMR does amazing work rehabilitating dogs of all stripes and they have restored many precious lives. Christian's surgery did not come cheaply. Please begin helping SND and Dog Mountain Rescue by sending in a donation to help cover Christian's surgery and help them in the important and essential work they do.  Just click the PayPal button on the right OR drop it in the mail! With all the sadness and uncertainty going on in our world, we can spread some cheer, knowing you helped Christian and Dog Mountain Rescue. Thank you from Dog Mountain Rescue, Christian, SND and me (who so wishes she lived closer to CA). Les Michell-Young, SND Case Manager.

Cooper !!

April, 2020:  What we know about Cooper isn’t very much at all. However, what we do know is he will be two years old at the end of April, and that the poor fellow was dumped by his owners at Animal Control, stating they ‘could no longer take care of him’ or ‘pass the buck’ so to speak. The question is: did they ever take care of him?? He was unaltered, not up to date on shots, no heartworm or flea/tick preventative, had diarrhea, and has an untreated skin condition that keeps him scratching constantly. Who knows how long that has been going on!! Can you even imagine being itchy 24/7? We can’t stand a bug bite itching us! To continue the story, Animal Control had him neutered and then contacted the Rescue Angels at Dog Mountain Rescue to provide medical treatment and then a forever home... The DMR angels wasted no time in taking custody of Cooper and in turn had him vetted immediately. He was given Bravecto to treat fleas/ticks as well as a medicated bath. He continued to itch. Different foods were added and subtracted in an effort to find a possible food allergy. Nothing helped, he continued to itch... He was then put on Hills Z/D special diet for skin issues and had blood work drawn. The Hills diet at least took care of the diarrhea, so that is no longer a problem, but poor Cooper continues to itch/scratch/chew. Since all typical avenues have been explored, a visit to the dermatologist has been scheduled, and we all know what it means when a specialist needs to be brought in – ch- ching $$ ch- ching. Won’t you please contribute what you can to give Cooper a life away from constant itching? The DMR Rescue Angels tell us that he is a very sweet boy, but it’s hard to keep his attention due to his consistent itching/scratching/chewing. Let us work together to get Cooper well and off to his new beginning - a new family and a happy and itch-free life! Your gift is payable by mail or by PayPal (if using PayPal, please use ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ to keep your donation ‘free free’). As always, SND and all of our rescues are grateful for your continued generosity! Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager.

Talia !!

April, 2020:  Talia is a Blue Lady that was born 2 years ago in a pole barn and that was as good as it got. Period. There is no upside to her story. Her breeders were elderly and very neglectful. It got worse once the husband died and the wife was simply unable to sustain even the poor care they had always had. Finally a neighbor made it public on Facebook, speaking about the conditions and the poor dogs suffering in the barn. Doberman Underground saw the post and reacted immediately. They managed to get 3 of the 7 dogs, and our sweet Talia was the youngest. She had been born with a contracted tendon in one front leg. If the greeders had cared at all, even a little, a surgery as a puppy would have taken care of this. Now, at 2, she has finally had surgery to cut the tendon, letting the leg straighten. She will have to heal and learn this new leg she's grown. She may be able to walk on it, but, if not, it will at least provide her with stability. She also has seizures that were undoubtedly horrible back in the barn, but are now controlled with medicine. Talia is a sweet girl that gets along with everything and everybody. She loves dogs of all sizes and cats too. She also loves people from toddlers all the way to seniors. All this sweet girl wants is to lay beside you on the couch. So far, it's her most favorite thing. She deserves a forever home that will look beyond her limitations and show her that her world is now limitless - with your help and the right loving family. Please consider joining DU and SND in helping Talia find that life. You can begin helping her by clicking on the PayPal button to the right--the gift option gives her even more! USPS gets it to us too! Anything, anyway helps--and it all goes to sweet Talia! As always, thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies!!! Thank you!! Coco !!

March, 2020:  This adorable little muffin is 3-month-old Coco. Her story is yet another that is a consequence of BYB's, as she is presenting with a problem no dog should have. Coco found herself at a veterinarian's office in her owner's arms when the owner stated he couldn't afford treating her for breathing problems that appeared a couple days prior. We can thank this veterinarian for calling Ann at Dog Mountain Rescue and alerting her that if Coco's owner was willing to surrender her, Ann would come to the rescue. Happily, the owner signed this dear baby over and upon examination, this particular vet thought Coco had a perforated diaphragm. Ann scooped up the puppy and brought her to her own vet for further evaluation. Ann's vet, at this point, does not believe Coco has a tear in her diaphragm and they are still trying to figure out what's going on with this baby. Bottom line is that every avenue is going to be investigated so this beautiful, sweet baby gets a chance.  Cardiology has ruled out heart defects and she has been treated for the lung congestion she presented.  Her breathing is much improved and she may be goging home with Ann real soon.  Ann has become a major rescuer and crusader for Dobermans and she founded Dog Mountain Rescue on the foundation of helping Dobermans - and every dog in need. Special Needs Dobermans is joining Ann in her fight to save Coco. You don't have to look at this baby's picture long to feel your heart pound. Please send a donation to SND to help save Coco, and please, don't forget to tell your friends and colleagues. Help Coco give us puppy breath!  You can start now by making a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in your donation. As you know, we'll be sure every penny counts and will be used to help Miss Coco! Thank you. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - smitten by Luke! Zelda !!

March, 2020:   We bring a sad hello and tearful goodbye to a beautiful DobeLady, Miss Zelda.  Zelda, who was likely a Senior  was guessed to be around 6-7 years old.  She had been rescued some time ago and had what the vets called "failure to thrive."  Because they couldn't afford to investigate further, they reached out to High Desert Doberman Rescue in New Mexico.  HDDR took her in and shortly thereafter, Zelda threw up a large piece of a stuffed toy.  She was taken to emergency care for an exploratory and it became obvious that what she finally disgorged had been with her for a very long time.  Her stomach had been perforated when she forcefully ejected the object and she likely then developed peritonitis.  She survived the surgery and was well enough to give some thank you kisses to her angel Anthony from HDDR.  Zelda died in her sleep that night.  Rest in peace dear Lady, she knew she was loved if only for that very short time.  Thank you Anthony and HDDR for giving her that.  Please, let's join HDDR in letting them know how much they are appreciated by keeping them solvent enough to save the next dear Doberman that needs them.  Please, do it now... your donation is tax deductible and can be either mailed or by using the PayPal buttons on the right.  Let this face touch you, it touched HDDR... just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.

Broxton !

March, 2020:  Being an escape artist, Broxton is still a ward of Doberman Pinscher Rescue.  Luckily for him, he found a perfect FosterMom willing and able to curb his wanderlust and he's been in her care since the Thomas fire of December, 2017.  There hasn't been a formal adoption as her job takes her out of town sometimes.  During one of his stays with her, she noticed his behavior was "off" - something only close attention and attachment would indicate!  Fearing serious and deadly bloat, Broxton was taken to the vet immediately.  Fortunately, after thorough exam and x-rays he was treated for GI distress and was discharged after overnight observation with a course of antibiotics and returned to the loving arms of his FosterMom!!  THANK YOU for being there for Broxton Mom!!  As an alumnus, a Senior one at that, Broxton needs our help to stay healthy until he can be adopted!  Won't you join us?  Sure you will!!  Donation instructions remain they same, so, be a part of the Broxton Band!!  THANK YOU!!  SND Case Management Team
August, 2019
:  Our newest DobeGent is 7 – 8 year old Broxton.  Broxton has been cared for by the Rescue Angels of Doberman and Little Paws Rescue of Fillmore, California for approximately 5 years. Although he is well loved by his foster mother, due to her long working hours as well as his uncanny and undesirable ability to escape from nearly any enclosure known to man (this talent has also kept him from being permanently adopted), he mostly resides at the rescue. It was during a few days away from the rescue with his foster mom that she noticed he had neither voided nor had he consumed any water. Knowing this was an issue that for called for prompt attention, she called the rescue for permission to have Broxton vetted. By his exam, tests and labs the diagnosis was a UTI with hypothyroidism as a possible contributing factor and treatment was begun. DALPR cares for many Dobes at any given time and an emergent vet visit can put a strain on any rescue’s resources. I suggest we help Broxton’s saviors and together contribute a little which would definitely add up to a lot!! Remember, your donation is tax deductible and can be either mailed or donated by using PayPal (if using PayPal please click on ‘send money’ as well as ‘friends and family’ to keep your donation Fee Free!!) The rescues who you support as well as we at SND graciously thank you for your continued generosity!!  THANK YOU!! Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager.

Logan !!

March, 2020:  Before you read on, please look at this boy's wonderful, sweet face. This is 7 1/2 year old Logan. Logan and his lifetime-bonded mate, Lilly, were dumped on Detroit animal control system back in 2017. They had been used for breeding until it was felt their use was done. They were in bad shape and barely socialized. Can you imagine the fear these two felt? Humans had never been kind and now their world had expanded by many more of the two legged monsters. The Doberman grapevine, as far as Florida heard, another greeder, masquerading as a rescue, was on their way for the pair. Time was short, but Top Dog Animal Rescue Group in Troy, Michigan, was close enough to snatch them up before round #2 of hell could begin. Safe! Time was even shorter than they had known as Lilly gave birth to her last litter of puppies, via C-section, very soon thereafter. Lilly's puppies were weaned and all went to wonderful homes. So now it was time to think about a home for these two, somewhere, together. Before this could happen a sore developed on Logan's lower leg. It was cancer and it meant amputation of the leg. SND was there for Logan then and we certainly won't refuse him now that he needs us!  He did well as a tripod and the search began again for an adoptive home for these two, somewhere nearby. They have been in a more or less permanent foster home where their needs can be met and Top Dog can be sure their bills will be paid. They have other issues too, you know, the same kind of issues we all face with aging dogs, hot spots, incontinence. Coming forward in time to present, several years later and this Rescue Foster is still the family unit for this pair. They are very sweet Dobes who have learned to love attention, couch-time and being part of a family. February, 2020 and Logan went from fine to a little wobbly to down. He had a fever of 104. Antibiotics cleared that up and steroids are helping as he is much more responsive and alert. He is loving the treats they're taking him every day, and is propped on his front leg, head up and ready for attention. The volunteers have been visiting him every day and have taken a blanket of Lilly's to him--they miss each other so much! He's pretty normal now, except for his back legs. They aren't working and the best guess now is a central nervous system involvement. At least they have ruled out a recurrence of cancer, but it will take testing to find out what is going on and to help Logan regain his feet. Someone reminded them about SND help in 2017 and here we are, adding Logan (and perhaps Lilly) to our list of SNDobies. Please consider helping beautiful Logan in any way you are able. Every penny will go to him, and every penny helps. This is a small rescue with many large vet bills lately. Let's all pull together and help the Dobes in their care. You may begin helping Logan by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option even saves fees! Uncle Sam will also get it to Logan in time! Another look at his sweet face is right here https://www.doberman911.org ! As always, I thank you sincerely for your ongoing support of this great breed! Carol Belknap, Logan's SND Case Manager.

Archie !!

February, 2020:  Archie is guessed to be approximately four years old and a super sweetheart, so it makes one question how it is he was wandering the streets in and around San Antonio - all alone - and for who knows how long.  It only takes one look to see that he was, without a doubt, uncared for.   He is super thin and he has an obvious leg injury. His left front leg is extremely swollen and an open, draining wound is quite obvious (OUCH!). A kind person at a local veterinarian clinic tried to locate Archie’s owners but was unsuccessful. Archie’s care is now being managed by the Rescue Angels of San Antonio Doberman Advocacy & Rescue. Archie’s Angels will see to it that he receives all the love and medical attention needed to bring this sweet sweet boy back to optimal health.  SADAR has come to SND for assistance in Archie’s veterinary intervention regarding his weight gain and his leg wound.  Please, if you can, won’t you be a part of Archie’s road to happiness and good health which will pave his way to a new home where he will be forever loved and cared for?? Surely you will!!
UPDATE: We're unfortunately bringing you not good news...  early radiographs show Archie's wound is likely osteosarcoma.  He will undergo additional testing by ultrasound to see if this has metastasized.  If it has not, he would be a candidate for amputation and a low dose form of chemo - metronomic chemo.  Keep the best thoughts and help coming Archie's way - He deserves a chance to have the best life he can.  Please send your tax deductible donation by
check or by PayPal (if using PayPal please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to make your gift fee free)! Let’s work together to get Archie well again!!  Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager.  Just look at his sweet face right here https://www.doberman911.org and start helping!  THANK YOU!!

Jasper !!

October, 2020:  Fast forward from February of this year when Senior Jasper had an emergency visit to the vet (not cheap of course) for a still unknown precipitating cause of a GI incident.  Of course, dear Jasper is still one of our SND Gents and of course, we couldn't say no to his need!
Click right here https://www.doberman911.org and feast your eyes!  THANK YOU!!  SND Case Team
June, 2016 For all of his 4 years Jasper lived quietly with his elderly owner, perhaps not the ideal life for a young Dober-boy, but it worked—and was the only life he knew… Then his 78 year old owner began trying to surrender him to rescue. The owner had decided to go back to his homeland to die among family. Leaving his Jasper was hard - and, no one seemed to want him and he luckily was able to get under the loving wings of Dog Mountain Rescue though he had to be placed in a kennel initially. Poor Jasper didn’t do well in kennel conditions. He became so stressed out he chewed the end off of his tail. A foster was found for him and a vet wrapped up his poor tail. Things should have improved, and, in fact, he did seem to get along a little better. Then came time for a different vet to look at the tail and it was discovered the first vet hadn’t done a very good job. The first vet had blunt cut it without leaving flesh and skin to regrow over the bone. Jasper required another surgery to remove enough more of the tail to close the injury and allow it to heal. If he continues to chew, he may lose even more so let’s hope he’s a good boy! While at the vet’s office it was found he was running a fever; examination revealed a red, swollen web between his toes. They tried to track it but lost the track and couldn’t go any further; the cause remains unknown. He is “home” now, on antibiotics, antiinflammatories and tramadol for pain and seems to be feeling better. Jasper is a really nice Dobe.  He's pleasant, friendly and engaging, if perhaps not exactly a stud muffin, still deserving of a forever home and a family he is truly a part of… forever. Please consider helping with Jasper’s medical expenses. You may begin helping Jasper by making a gift donation using the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in (if using PayPal, please click on 'Send Money' and then the 'friends and family' tab which will keep your donation 'Fee Free'!). No amount of help is too small when it comes to helping and every penny goes to the dogs! We at SND are continually grateful for your help and support! Thank you! Luke !!

February, 2020:  Here we have yet another beautiful boy who has been through the mill in his short life. Luke was pulled from a California shelter with a horribly broken leg after being hit by a car. That is tragic in an of itself, but pretty routine. Here comes the really terrible part. Luke was in a foster home for the shelter and these so-called fosters were so careless that Luke somehow got loose and hit by a vehicle AND RATHER THAN TAKING THEIR FOSTER DOBE TO A VETERINARIAN, THEY DUMPED HIM BACK IN THE SHELTER. What kind of people do that??? What sort of "fosters" does this shelter recruit?? The shelter contacted Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore to help Luke out and they came running so fast they left a smoke trail. This dear DobeKid (about 1 1/2 years old) lost his leg, but gained love, protection and safety. He's had his amputation surgery and thankfully is young enough he'll adjust and live a wondrous and magical life. Doberman Pinscher Rescue saves so many Dobermans and because they rely strictly on donations, cases such as Luke’s set them back financially big time. Please help Doberman Pinscher Rescue save more Dobermans - Dobermans of all stripes - seniors, medically compromised dogs, dogs that are injured and alone. It's an amazing and noble place, but they cannot do this work alone and have asked SND for their financial assistance. Look at this beautiful boy's face. Help Doberman Pinscher Rescue save more Dobermans like dear Luke. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in your donation. Every penny counts and 100% will be used to help Luke! Thank you. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - smitten by Luke! Josie !!

February 5, 2020:   It is with many sad tears that we tell you that Josie lost her battle with the infections raging in her body despite the strongest arsenal of antibiotics being used.  Standing back and watching her succumb, her Vet Team said there was nothing else thy could do for her.  There certainly was no point in continuing her suffering from an increasingly obvious losing battle... She was released with love from so many of the people supporting her in her battle.  Rest in peace dear Angel, there will be a very bright star in the Night Sky  tonight and always.  Thank you Melissa and Bluegrass Doberman Rescue for giving her the chance to live.  We pledge to give you the support you gave her... Please continue to help us fulfill that promise.  Thank you.
February, 2020
:  Sweet Josie is only 2 years old and very close to dying. Luckily, she is in the hands of Bluegrass Doberman Rescue which is a very good place for a sick girlie to be! We all know sweet Melissa will do everything she can to save this girl--and her babies. Yes, there are babies. Here's her sad, preventable story… I say preventable because at several points in her life, humans could have kept her from being here today, in pain and close to death.  Allegedly, Josie was in training to help with arson investigations but budget cuts at the firehouse ended the program. Josie wound up with the trainer/owner and no job to keep her busy and out of trouble. He let an accidental breeding happen and her puppies are GSD and/or Border Collie. As her puppies grew inside her so did the fluid in her hind legs. They eventually became so swollen she was unable to walk. Several vets, including Ohio State University, could not figure out what was wrong, although OSU did conclude the puppies were causing the issue. Also her WBC was extremely high, so something was going on somewhere. It got to the point where her owner was going to have a mobile vet do a C-section and find people to come in and bottle feed the pups. That was when BDR's Angels stepped in and took over, giving her, her best chance. Josie went right to MedVet, where she did have a few of her pups, but there were more who wouldn't come out so a C-section was performed. Also a spay so this wouldn't happen again! There were 13 puppies, 7 live… She was instantly a good, sweet Mama. However, that was last night, overnight another puppy died and Josie got a fever. She had a hygroma on an elbow which ruptured. Her stomach was very distended and a stomach tube got a liter of nasty brown fluid out. She is no longer nursing and is on an aggressive antibiotic program, but it is feared she is septic. Please, if you are considering helping one of these worthy dogs, please consider helping Josie. She needs you badly! Please consider joining BDR and SND in our fight for Josie and her babies! Her bill is well over $7K now!!  Saving lives costs a lot of love and lost of $$.  No amount is too small and, as always, every penny will go to her! You may begin helping Josie by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, making it a gift even saves the fees! Good old snail mail works too, I use it, being an old snail myself! I always thank you for your continued support, I am so grateful to those of you who care. Pplease take another look at this sad lady... Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  Thank you! Enola !!

January, 2020:  It goes without saying that some individuals should not have an animal, they should stay with pet rocks. Pet rocks would relieve them of the ‘common sense’ and responsibility it takes in owning a living, breathing, sentient creature! It’s here that we enter Enola’s former owners and here the story goes… Still a baby at only seven months old, Enola has had a rather eventful life, even though it hasn’t all been ‘good’ events. This episode began when the RescueAngels with Doberman Pinscher Rescue (aka Dobies and Little Paws) of Fillmore, California received a call from a couple who had their young Dobe at a veterinarian’s office. Their pup had an intestinal blockage and needed emergency surgery. Even though the former owners reportedly flew on a private jet to obtain their pup, they either couldn’t (or wouldn’t) pay for the surgery that was absolutely essential to save Enola’s life. Rather than elect to have Enola euthanized, DPR agreed to take her on if she was surrendered. Enola’s Angels quickly gained possession and whisked her to an emergency clinic. Abdominal surgery ensued and it was found that Enola had eaten wire, carpet and some dry wall – say what??? Who lets a dog, especially a puppy, have access to such items. Luckily, Enola survived the surgery and post op period and will eventually be adopted into a loving home with a safe environment. In the meantime, funds are needed to pay for this costly intervention. Surgery always comes at a price, especially if it is an emergency, and Enola’s Angels have come to us for assistance. Please, if you can, would you make a donation to help cover sweet Enola’s expenses? NO amount is ever too small and your gift is tax deductible. Donations can be made by mail or by PayPal (if using Paypal and if able, please click on ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ to make your donation fee free). It’s because of the love and generosity of the SND family that helps keep so many rescues afloat and enables them to save lives like young and innocent Enola’s! SND and every rescue you help are eternally grateful!  Beth McCahren, Enola's SND Case Manager.

Ginger !!

January, 2020:  Look at this sweet face! Grace !!

January, 2020:  For most of her life, 9 year old Grace has been a breeding machine. A cheap one too since she received nothing but the bare minimum to keep her alive and producing puppies. Once she was old, she was obviously forgotten, getting even less attention. When divorce dissolved the household it was a win-win for Grace. She not only got away from her "family", she was rescued by the Rescue Angels at Doberman Underground. As is so often the case, it was a life-changing event. When DU got hold of her she was bleeding from her anus, was balding, flea infested and had a mouthful of very loose, rotting teeth. This sweet girl was suffering in so many ways--and had been! None of these problems happened overnight, she has had to live with continual pain for several years. It is known she has had no medical care for at least 4 years. Well, now she has both medical care and caring! She has had surgery to remove a large rectal growth and all the loose, rotted teeth. She has clean skin, no fleas, a soft bed, good food and Love. Lots of love. Please consider joining DU and SND in getting Grace ready for her new home. You may begin helping Grace by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Choosing the gift option gives Grace even more! USPS gets a check to her too! And every penny goes to this old sweetheart. Seniors are so great, I'm sure someone will want to share her life. I know I do, I'd bring this girl home in a minute! Carol Belknap, Grace's SND Case Manager.

December 2019 Still Active Cases

Diego !!

December, 2019:  This dear young boy is Diego and he was recently rescued by the RescueAngels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. It's unknown just how old Diego is - estimates range from 1 1/2 to perhaps as old as 4 years.   What is known is that Diego's right eye was not functioning and the cause was unknown - until he was sent to UC Davis Veterinary School, where he was examined and ultimately underwent enucleation of the right eye. It is thought Diego's continuing eye troubles are congenital and unfortunately, his vision problems aren't over yet. Diego's left eye sports a cataract, further hindering his vision and his ophthalmologist and surgeon are unsure about cataract surgery because he may develop glaucoma down the road - which is very painful for dogs and requires enucleation to keep him from pain, which of course, will render him totally blind.  Diego is going to require an ultrasound and additional testing to evaluate his prospects for keeping his remaining eye, if at all possible. What is possible is DPR and Special Needs Dobermans are going to do everything under the sun to help this dear boy have the best, happy and pain free life he can live. Please begin helping by sending a Paypal or mailed donation for Diego's vision care and get your gift matched by our marvelous Secret Santa - who will MATCH your donation!  Thank you for making this holiday season the happiest and healthiest as can be for our dear Dobes!! Indy !!

December, 2019:  Another beautiful Doberman let down by its people and others who should be helping animals. A beautiful blue boy only 14 months old was posted on rescueme.org being sold for $100 after owner stated Indy was hit by a car and she couldn't afford his medical care. Dobie Ranch Rescue in Florida tried to contact this seller multiple times by phone and email but never got a response - surprised?  Well no... the ad was taken down so it was assumed Indy had been placed. Three weeks later Indy showed up at an animal shelter as a stray. Indy sat in this shelter for another two weeks because he was on a stray hold. I would imagine the owner turned Indy in to the shelter, so why the stray hold? Good question!  In any case, this poor, innocent animal received no medical treatment for a severely broken leg for six weeks, totally abandoned by the only family he had ever known and by Animal "Services." Doctors were absolutely flabbergasted by how much pain this boy had endured and still kept his Doberman spirit. Indy finally got to Dobie Ranch Rescue and had emergency surgery not knowing if the leg could even be saved. Fortunately doctors were able to save Indy's leg using plates, pins and screws. It is believed his leg may be a little shorter than the other rear leg but they are hoping for a complete recovery. As you can imagine this was a very expensive surgery. Without everyone's help this boy would have no chance at all, but between all of us and DRR this boy can have a normal life. Lets not let this poor beautiful Dobe down again, lets prove to Indy that all humans are not like the humans that let him down at such a young age. He has many years ahead of him, let's get him well and into a "GOOD" home where he will be loved for many years and not tossed out like yesterday's trash. You can make a life saving, tax deductible donation by using PayPay or by mailing in your donation. Please help us help Indy! Thank you! Max !!

December, 2019:  Animal control picked up 6 year old Maximus off the street. Later it was discovered his owner had deserted his home and Max at the same time. Just walked away and left him to die. I can't even imagine dumping my Dobe, can you? My dog would go with me... wherever. However, as so often happens, it was the best thing that could have happened to this pretty boy! He was rescued by Diane and got to go to Dobie Rescue Ranch in Florida. It must have seemed like heaven to Max because someone finally cared about his health. You see, when animal control picked him up, he wasn't hard to catch -- one rear leg was at least three times its normal size. The Angels at Dobie Rescue Ranch did all kinds of testing. Negative, negative, negative. Puzzling… he was producing fluid from his leg yet didn't seem to be in much pain.  A CT scan (read: not cheap) showed him to be cryptorchid with both testicles. One was pressing on his bladder and one was pressing on his prostate. You have to wonder how much of his life he had been in this condition, possibly years… Immediate surgery to remove his testes started the fluid draining. His leg size diminished immediately! Better still, biopsies came back negative. His leg has been so enlarged for so long it is unlikely it will ever go back down to a normal size BUT it is no longer retaining fluid. He is on his way to being a happy boy ready to be someone's ray of sunshine! Someone who will not ignore or abandon him but will love and spoil him forever! Diane says Max is the sweetest boy on earth, completely charming everyone who meets him. All the people who are caring for him during his bad time have fallen in love with him!  Just imagine him with the bad days behind him! Please consider joining DRR and SND get Max ready for a new life! You may begin helping Max by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, or by mailing one in. Max is grateful for everything--no amount is too small to help and 100% goes to his salvation fund! The great Doberman Community is always there for these injured, forgotten Dobes. As always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!  Want another shot of Dapper Dude??  Here's a heart-throbber!!  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. THANK YOU!!
