Welcome to the Senior Doberman Project (SDP)

Special Needs Dobermans and the Doberman Rescuers we help recognize the difficulty in placing aging Dobermans in loving homes. Doberman rescue groups are working tirelessly to save and care for these precious creatures, and we would like to help find them forever homes.

Our goal is to create maximum exposure to facilitate placement of available seniors through publication in Doberman Digest in addition to online state-by-state listings with information as close to "real time" as possible, including links to existing rescue sites.

Please tell us about your senior Dobes in rescue! There is now an easy online form for you to use - click on the Add Your Senior link to he left. We will add your information to the state-by-state listings in our effort to create awareness for our senior friends. If you would like to send us suggestions or questions, email us at Please add a link to this site on your website, if you have one. Let us know if you do, so we can add a link back to yours! This exposure will draw attention to the SDP seniors, and more importantly, create exposure for your seniors needing forever homes. So please list your seniors with us, so that we can help give them the additional exposure they deserve!

Sponsor A Senior!!

The Senior Doberman Project is proud to announce the launching of the Sponsor A Senior program! This is a great way for people to help seniors but don't have the ability to adopt one. The funds raised will help people rescuing and fostering Dobes to pay for food, medicine, vet needs, and anything else needed to help make a Senior Dobe happy and healthy! Please read more about this program at the Sponsor A Senior page!

Give me the ugly dog with one eye, three legs,
and help me show that they're more than just a form and a face.
Give me the scarred dog, burned and slashed with hate,
and help me lead it away from that terrible fate.
Give me the deaf and blind dog, and help me show it the way
in the silence and dark of each of their days.
Give me the shutdown dog, depressed of mind,
and help me cherish their soul until their fears unwind.
Give me the old dog, bent and broken with age,
and help me fill their last days with an unending grace.
Give me the ugly dog, I'll leave the pretty one for you,
and help me show them they're worthy of love and joy, too.

SND's Senior Doberman Project's
Senior of the Week!

December 16, 2017 through December 23, 2017

Meet Miss Irma!!

Look how beautiful I am after a bath!!!

Click my picture above and visit my page!!
And... She'd love Sponsors while she's enjoying life!!

Ten year-old Irma was pulled from a Georgia shelter when her owners failed to reclaim her. The poor girl probably hadn’t had a bath in months or even years. She was thought to be red until her bath when it became clear she was blue Lady. She obviously looked, smelled, and felt so much better. Irma is estimated to be about 10 years old but could be as old as 12. Her back end is weak and her back feet slide around if she’s not wearing boots. She wants to play with the other dogs but usually falls down when she play bows. X-rays of her neck, chest, and back show she has an enlarged heart and has white spots on her lungs. The vet could not tell if the spots on her lungs were tumors or pockets of fluid so Irma will be seeing a cardiologist to see if she has DCM. She is heartworm positive. Irma is a very happy dog who gets along with all the dogs she’s met in her foster home. She also seems to enjoy meeting lots of new people. She will try to steal food off your plate so she needs to be watched when people are eating. To send Irma a Senior Sponsorship you can visit her page at

HAPPY UPDATE!! Miss Irma has already seen the cardiologist. He did not see signs of DCM, and feels that the white spots on her lungs are damage or inflammation caused by the heartworms. She does have a hacking cough, but again, due to lung damage and not DCM. In her last set of x-rays on Monday, her lungs actually looked a little better and will likely keep improving!!

You can learn more about Miss Irma and many other Seniors who need your support by going to Here you can also help Doberman rescues across the country with their Seniors by sponsoring a Senior Doberman for $40 per month or $480 per year. Our goal is to encourage Rescues to take in more Seniors by helping them with the day to day expenses for routine medical care or just extras like nice comfy beds and toys to make their golden years the best yet. It's a great way to honor the lives of these older Dobermans, many of whom never knew love or care during their younger years.

If you have any questions about Miss Irma or any of our other beautiful Seniors, please email us at Thank you for your support!!
