Dobermans Currently in Need
Our organization exists to help Special Needs and Senior Dobermans. As we collect money, we will disburse funds to help Dobermans that have been brought to our attention. The money for a particular case may come from contributions from members and other concerned people, as well as fund raising activities such as our auctions. Money from the SND General Fund may be added on a case by case basis.
If you would like to contribute to the well being of a Dobe featured here, please mail us a donation with the name of the girl or boy in the memo field. There are also PayPal Donate buttons with each Dobe so you can make a donation online. Can't decide which dog to help? Simply note on your check that the money is for the SND General Fund, or use the General Fund PayPal button on the main page. All donations are tax deductible, and of course, greatly appreciated. You will receive a thank you note that will serve as your receipt. All of our donors and disbursements are listed on this web site. We are always looking for items to auction off for our special friends. If you have any items that you would like to donate, please let us know!

Each Dobe will have an introduction followed by a link that will take you to the complete case history and other photos - just click on the link to get there. Keep in mind those pages may take a little longer to arrive since they have larger pictures. Please feel free to email SND and we will try to answer any questions you may have regarding a case. Finally, we hope these cases will inspire more people to join our SND cause!

Haley
is a beautiful eight year old girl in Georgia who has been dealt some bad
things by life recently. Her family was relocated to Germany, a move that
really hurt all
involved. Then, shortly after their leaving, Haley developed signs of heart
disease. This was confirmed after a visit to the emergency clinic.
She has shown signs of gradual improvement with proper medication and lots
of love
from
her rescuer and adoptive family. While she may not have years left with
us, we feel that she can still certainly have months of the love all Dobes
deserve (could be a few months, could be more). You can learn more by visiting 
Rocky is a 9 year old male Doberman in Georgia. He wound up in rescue after
being taken in a cruelty case, and has a number of health issues. He desperately
needed to have several bad teeth removed as well as a large
tumor on his foot and one on his eyelid. Further complicating matters is the
fact that Rocky also has

Mable is a 12 year old blue Doberman living in Georgia with Nancy and Chris. Since December, Mable has
been having terrible, life threatening vomiting episodes and has also been diagnosed with the onset of Wobbler's Disease.
During the last few months, Nancy and Chris have spent around $8,000 caring for Mable, but Nancy has lost
her job and Chris, a contractor has not been paid for his most recent job which took about 3 months.

Ivan is an 8 month old pup that was hit by a car and abandoned at the vet's office. He suffered multiple
injuries, but thankfully for Ivan, Robin, one of the vets took mercy on him and decided to make him her
own. His bills have been very high, though, even with her discounts. You can learn more and see some pictures by visiting
Alex is a handsome 1 ˝ - 2 year old male in the care of Doberman Rescue Group
(currently being fostered in Texas). Alex has always been a picky eater since
he was rescued. Then he started peeing
in his crate . Numerous tests were run, since at first he was thought to have
copper toxicity, but that has been ruled out. He had his exploratory surgery
and biopsy which revealed that he has lesions
on his liver, the cause of which has not been determined. But it may possibly
be linked to Rimadyl use or a Pro-heart 6 shot that he may have had prior to
coming to DRG. ( He has never been on Rimadyl
or had the dreaded Proheart6 injection since he has been with DRG.) At any rate,
his bills are continuing to mount and DRG is running short of funds to continue
to fight for Alex’s life. The vets
still have not determined the source of the problem but are continuing to investigate. They have
taken him off of all medications thinking that one of them may be contributing to the problem. You can learn more and see some pictures by visiting
Snoop is approximately 5 years of age and lives with Michelle of Recycled Dobermans
in Pennsylvania. Snoop came in as a
foster dog and refused to leave. She suffers from severe separation anxiety
and cannot be away from Michelle for any length of time. When Snoop went in for
her annual, it was discovered that she is suffering from
heart disease! Michelle is currently out of work and does not have the money
for the diagnostics to find the severity of the disease, or the meds that may

Mochi is a 7.5 - 8 year old Doberman living in Colorado with her owner, Beverly,
a full time student on veteran's disability. Recently Mochi suffered a laceration
her leg when getting into the car. Initial
harassment consisted of debridement and a course of antibiotics. Mochi's ability
to get past an e collar caused the wound to open and worsen. It was thought for
a while that surgery may be needed
to repair Mochi's leg, but at this stage the vet believes that the wound will
heal with meds and protection from licking which will come in the form of a basket
muzzle donated by Doberman
Rescue of Colorado. Now Mochi needs your help in paying for her vet visits and

Storm is a 1 1/2 yr old female belonging to Kim and Derrick in Iowa. Storm had a partially torn ACL
that she went in for surgery for on 3/31. The vet did an arthroscopy and corrected the miniscal tear
without having to do a full ACL surgery or a TPLO. Kim put down a deposit for the surgery with her
credit card but does not have available credit for the balance or the physical therapy that Storm

Elizabeth is a sweet, adorable 11 year old Doberman owned by SND member Sheilla, in Georgia. She was rescued
from a neglect situation about a year and a half ago.
She shares her home with 4 other dogs, mostly rescues and one kitty cat. She also currently has 2 foster
brothers and a foster sister. She has been
battling a mystery illness since November 2004, and her "mom" has run out of money to provide the future treatment

Mox is a handsome 3 year old living with a loving family in Illinois. He has torn the ACL in BOTH legs and
needs surgery go that he can go back to being the healthy, active boy that he once was. His owner is a single
mom and full time student and has exhausted her resources in diagnostics and x-rays. You can

Mya is a beautiful 13 month old female living in Florida with her Air Force family. She has been diagnosed
with fibrosarcoma and needs radiation treatments in order to recover and live a normal life. You can

Sammy is a 6 year old red Doberboy living in Florida with Carol, his mom. He
was originally brought to SND's attention when he was diagnosed with a blown
disk and surgery to repair it developed numerous complications.
Unfortunately, Sammy was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and is no longer a candidate
for surgery. He will, however require medicines to keep his heart condition under
control and acupuncture to keep him
mobile and control the pain from his disk. You can learn more by visiting
Chase is a 2 year old red cropped and docked red male. He came to Hand Me Down Dobes from a
southwestern Indiana dog shelter. Chase was picked up as a stray after being hit by a car. His front
leg was shattered and he was suffering from a nasty infection. A good Samaritan sprang him from the
shelter and transported him to Westerville East Animal Hospital, Hand Me Down Dobes' vet clinic in
Columbus, late on a Saturday night. Radiographs of the leg revealed that it could not be saved and the
only option for Chase was amputation due to the duration of the injury. Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Ott
worked on the sweet red boy until 3:00am, on their own time. As if this was not enough, it was also
found that Chase was heartworm positive. You can learn more by visiting
Kobe is a 2.5 year old black natural eared neutered male living with his family in PA. Around
Thanksgiving he tore his ACL. His owners paid for surgery at that time. He is now non-weight bearing
on the OTHER leg and has severe joint swelling with all classical symptoms that his other ACL is
indeed torn. He will require surgery on this knee. Kobe is an oversized boy at 100# so this has not
been in his favor. His mom is a teacher and the family includes three children. He needs immediate surgery
on his leg and may require additional surgeries, as his problems are believed to stem from hip issues. You can learn more by visiting
Tasha is a 5 year old red rescue Doberman. She has been exhibiting weakness in her back legs and is starting
to fall down. The vet suspects Wobbler's Syndrome. Tasha's owner is disabled and living on SSI. She
cannot afford the diagnostics and possible treatment that Tasha will need.

Twister is a handsome young man of 2. He is a cropped and docked black and tan
with a big problem. He has been diagnosed with Addison's disease. Twister is
in the care of DPRPA. Yesterday alone
his vet bill was 225 dollars. That is not including the meds that he requires
daily. One drug that he has to have costs 112 dollars a month. You can learn

Scott and Stephanie live in Ohio with their 6 year old Dober-boy Leo along with Ruby (12 year old
Dobe), Alexa (10 year old Grey Hound), and Sammy (18 year old Tabby cat). Leo was just diagnosed
with osteosarcoma. The specialists believe that they have caught the problem early enough that a
combination of amputation of the front leg along with chemotherapy will save Leo's life. But the
process must be started immediately -- surgery is tentatively scheduled for Friday assuming the
financial arrangements can be made. The prospect of not trying to save Leo's life is unacceptable to
Scott and Stephanie. They rescued Leo when he was a 6 month old puppy and has had a carefree life of
leisure ever since. The cost for the surgery and the subsequent treatment is estimated at around
$4000. This exceeds the resources of the family so they have come to SND for assistance.
