The Book's Promotional description:
"A Children's Book for Doberman Lovers of all Ages!
"Hi
there! My name is Dolphie! Actually, my full name is Adolphus Maximillian but
all of my friends call me Dolphie or Dolph. My human-mom and dad had other names
for me as well. Some were Jub Jub, Little Man, and Dolph Man. I am a Doberman
Pinscher dog. I'm writing this from the Rainbow Bridge. That's a place that
all pets go to when we die. It's a pretty cool place, though. We are no longer
old or in pain." And so begins, "Dolphie, the Therapy Dog" as
told by Dolphie, the Doberman, a new children's book written by a teacher about
her furchild who shared her life for over ten years. Lori says, "In my
49th year, my Therapy Dog, Dolphie, gave up his long fight with Cardiomyopathy,
a deadly heart disease found most often in the Doberman breed. I knew the importance
of allowing my heart to heal but the time wasn't right. In my 50th summer, I
broke my ankle and was ordered off of my feet for six weeks. A good friend told
me that maybe this was the time to heal both physically and mentally by taking
the time to share Dolphie's story. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as
I enjoyed sharing his memories with you!" And enjoy his memories you will!
His life was filled with helping others and loving each minute he lived! It
is written in the
first person point of view by Dolphie, himself, and, by the end of the book,
you will actually feel you knew Dolphie, too. You will hear him tell about his
adoption, his human and fur friends, his travels across the country, and his
career as a Therapy Dog. So vividly is described his first day on the job, that
you get to experience what it would be like to be a Therapy Dog. Written, using
many of the Arizona State Reading Standards, this book is not only a magical
story but is filled with the standards being used in reading classrooms today.
Lori gives us a sense of closure in the loss of her dog, that he is now free
from pain and enjoying himself at the Rainbow Bridge, where all pets go to when
they die. "Many years ago, a counselor told me that one of the best ways
to accept a pet's death is to create a memorial to that pet, something that
will honor the pet and keep its memory alive. I feel that I have done that with
this book. I hope that both children and adults will feel comfort in the concept
of the Rainbow Bridge, where their beloved pets can be young and pain free and
look forward to seeing their owners again someday."
And a word from the author:
"Some
of you know that, several years ago, I wrote a book entitled, "Dolphie
the Therapy Dog as told by Dolphie the Doberman." It started out as a "children's
book" but turned out being for "children of all ages." Recently,
I was given permission, from the publisher, to print more copies. This allowed
me to cut the cost of the book and gives me more of a profit. Since the book
was published, I've donated most of the profits to SND. (During the Centennial
celebration fund
raising, I donated half to SND and half to the Centennial project.) Now, I'm
back to being able to donate $10 of the $18.95 (includes shipping in a padded
envelope to US addresses) to SND. I have quite a few books left and ready to
mail to you for holiday gift giving. I will also mail to International addresses
for $15.95 plus actual shipping charges. I will take checks and money orders.
If you access the book from my own site after reading this, please mention you
are purchasing the book to benefit SND. If you have any questions, please let
me know! You can email me at Lsteadmanaz@cox.net"
