Perhaps, the most famous dog-grieving story of all time is that of Greyfriars Bobby, a Skye terrier owned by a Mr. John Gray of Edinburgh, Scotland. Mr. Gray passed away in 1858 and was buried in Greyfriars Churchyard, Bobby was one of the conspicuous mourners. As time went by he never forgot his deceased master. Every day for the next 14 years until his own death in 1872, Bobby spent each night lying on his master’s grave come rain, hail and snow. In honor of Bobby’s devotion, a statue and water fountain was erected to his memory in 1873.

SOPHIA. Once again, a story of how it takes a village sometimes to save a worthy dog. Was Sophia's story like that of poor Bobby? We'll never know for sure, but we do know that our lovely lass was found wandering in a cemetary in Kansas. Perhaps searching for her departed owner, perhaps simply lost, but in need of help nonetheless since Kansas winters can be cruel, especially to a senior Dober-gal on her own. Sophia was brought to a local shelter, where the caring workers contacted Kansas City Doberman Rescue. KCDR was full to the brim, but sweet Sophia's story touched them & they did have a volunteer heading towards IL, so they contacted IDR+. Now Sophia has joined the many diginified elder Dobes on the couches of IDR+. She is at least 10 years old & has what seems to be an old injury on one of her rear legs but it doesn't prevent her from getting around, or hopping up on a couch. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home.

We know these gothic tales usually end with the lovely heroine dying & we don't know how long the lovely Sophia has left. But if you would like to help give this tale a happy ending, if you have love to give and a warm spot for Sophia to cuddle up on, please contact Pam at PAbare9256@aol.com or 847-277-1082.
