Tango

Update 07/05: Tango came through the K-E surgery and is doing much better! He was initially feeling rather poorly which is completely understandable. He went home with his family and Dani is making sure he gets as much love as he can handle. The device will likely stay on the arm for two months. Tango is a big, big boy and his arm has some serious healing to do. We will be posting some pictures in the near future. Yeah Tango!
Update 06/20: The pin in Tango's arm wasn't holding up to his large frame, and Dr. Aaron at the Collett clinic decided it was best if a K-E apparatus was attached right away. Otherwise, Tango may lose the arm. A K-E apparatus is a device that has screws which are inserted into the bone from the outside, and a large pair of braces are placed on either side to stabilize the limb. It is somewhat bulky and initially disconcerting to a dog, but it is a much sturdier device. In Tango's case, as with many the dogs, it quite likely saved him from an amputation. Dr. Aaron did a great job! The cost of the surgery was $800 and SND has committed to raise the funds for the entire amount. Please consider making a donation to help Tango, no donation is too small! Update 05/25: Tango had successful surgery today! The right forearm with the compound fracture was set and stabilized, and he is resting well. The left forearm was put into a splint as he may have fractured it as well (we'll get that confirmed in the next day or so). He will be at the clinic for observation the next couple of days. The family will be able to visit him whenever they want during the holiday weekend. Dani sends everyone at SND her love! More updates and pictures will be posted as they come.
Tango's Story:
Several of our members received a plea for help from Ruth about Tango, who lives with Ruth's sister-in-law in Littlerock, California. Tango is a four year old 130 pound (!) red male. He tried to scale a six foot tall chained link fence and fell back into the yard. Brace yourselves... he had a compound fracture of one arm with bone sticking through the skin, a deep gash on the other, and scrapes on his chest. Rushed to the Collett clinic, the doctor there said surgery was needed as soon as possible or Tango might have to be put to sleep. The leg was placed in a temporary cast and he was put on pain medication. Ruth then called organizations and emailed as many rescue groups as she could find. The surgery including the follow-up would cost $700 after a $300 discount. SND made a fast track decision and contributed the remaining $165 on the bill. Ruth's extraordinary efforts to raise the money needed to keep Tango alive worked and SND is very happy that she found us so we could help!
As if saving Tango wasn't compelling enough (and of course it was), there was yet another part of the story that makes this even more special. Ruth is the aunt of a ten year old girl named Dani. Tango is at the center of Dani's heart, a dear and beloved friend and the two are inseparable. Dani had been completely crushed that she might lose her Tango. When Ruth drove over to give her the news that Tango would live, Dani's tears of sorrow turned to joy. These two beautiful kids will have the life together that simple words can't describe.
Tango is to have surgery on the afternoon of May 25th. We will be posting updates on how he is doing along with pictures as we get them. Ruth, Dani and the entire family send us big kisses and thanks for being here to help Tango. We of course are only too happy to be just a part of the story!
Please help us help Tango! Remember - no amount is too small, everything helps. You can use the PayPal Donation link below or mail us a donation directly. Thank you very much!
