Meet Ruby!

Look
at that girl GO!! A true Champion from START to FINISH!!
Meet Ruby! She's not only Jody's first dobe, she's her first dog! Free to a good home, complete with papers, 8 month old Ruby came into their lives like a revelation. Now it's hard for them to remember life before agility and obedience events. Ruby loves agility so much it isn't whether or not she'll finish the course, but how many times. Jody says her Ruby-doodle (impossible for a nub to wag faster) was born to do agility. Whether that is true or not, Ruby is the ambassador to their hearts and is truly their life. She is your typical Dober-Diva. She sleeps, by choice, with a knotted t-shirt as her pj's and her collar collection is known as her necklaces, a word you'd better not say unless an outing is planned.
Ruby's problems began as a bout of vomiting and diarrhea. We've all been there,
it's usually nothing serious but you worry anyway. Poor Ruby wasn't lucky and
she didn't improve; in fact she got worse, with fluid seeping like sludge into
her abdominal cavity. Their vet called in a specialist and she was hospitalized
for an intestinal biopsy. Ruby's small intestine was horribly inflamed, the
swelling had blocked blood flow, she was one sick little girl. She required
many units of plasma; luckily she tolerates the synthetic plasma well as it
is slightly cheaper--but still several hundred dollars per unit. The diagnosis
is IL (Intestinal lymphagiectasia) and PLE (protein losing enteropathy). There
is no cure, there is only management and worry. Right now Ruby is in remission.
Life is as normal as it will be with a special diet and daily doses of Prednisone
and Flagyl, forever. They must be vigilant about her albumin levels, testing
at 3 week intervals. They don't know what caused it and probably never will.
They do know one thing--there is nothing better than a doberman, and no better
dobe than their beloved Ruby.
Jody and Pete need us--the doberman community-- right now. They need our thoughts
and prayers for their little girl; on a more realistic level, they need our
help with Ruby's medical bills. Everything has gone onto their credit cards.
Now they must pay these balances down, hopefully before her remission ends and
they need them again. Please help this family in any way you find possible.
