Ricky

Ricky was found as a stray wandering the streets of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was transferred to
Doberman Rescue of Colorado following contact and cooperation with the Fayetteville shelter and
Doberman Rescue Group in Tulsa Oklahoma.
From Chuck at DRC:
"He was thought to be blind at the beginning of his journey. Upon observation it was discovered that
he had a modicum of light perception. Following a consultation with our regular vet today it was
determined that Ricky's problem was detached retinas. The good news being that the retinas aren't
completely detached.
Long term prospects are still not known, but Dr. Hammond, the opthamology specialist, is hopeful. He
is willing to discount and will accept time payments if surgery becomes required. So far Ricky has had
a prelim blood panel, ua, 2 serum tests for fungus and tick born infections, and an ultrasound. All
tests were clear and totalled $112. The doc is a long time dobe fan, and I believe will go out of his
way to keep cost down for us. At this point Ricky is not a surgical candidate. Dr. Hammond wants to
put him on a regimen of steroids and diuretics. The purpose of which is to drawn the retina back down
towards the orb. It is a low probability that the treatment will cause the retina to become
sufficiently attached that surgery could take it the rest of the way, but there is a chance and we,
and the doc feel it worth a shot. He starts the therapy today and is scheduled for a recheck in 10
days to 2 weeks."
