Remington!

Handsome Remington is a perfect gentleman. 'Remy' was advertised as "free to a good home" by his first owner (who incidentally kept him tied up outside most of his life). He came to Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue (SWODR) through the kindness of a neighbor. Remy arrived at SWODR with swollen joints and an unsteady gait, but had improved considerably after some proper care and love. He also had four titanium golf balls removed from his belly (!!!) and was given a new diet for kidney problems. Recently, his condition has deteriorated, and he has been diagnosed with Wobbler's. This wonderful boy is only six years old!

Remington's friends at SWODR arranged to have him see Dr. Durkes on Nov 1st. Dr. Durkes has perfected the gold bead implant procedure that has shown a lot of promise with Wobblers cases that are caught early enough. This technique is far less invasive than traditional surgery which means the recovery time is also less painful. There is a good article about the procedure on the DPCA Breeder Education site. It was determined that poor Remy was indeed a candidate for surgery. While operating on Remy's neck, Dr. Durkes discovered that he was also suffering from spondylosis (a degenerative disk disease of the back). Gold beads have shown promise for alleviating the pain caused by this disease as well, so our brave boy had gold beads implanted along his spine as well. The picture below shows Remy's "reverse Mohawk" haircut! SND has seen quality of life increase greatly with Dr. Durkes' procedures, and this boy certainly deserves some time when he can be happy and healthy.

The total for the Wobblers and spondylosis gold bead implant surgery came to $1750. SWODR wanted to give this boy every chance at a happy life that they could, so they have asked SND for assistance - and we're all to happy to help! SWODR has a lot of Dobes to care for and their funds are understandably stretched.

We need your help with the Remy's care, we need to make sure SWODR can continue to care for all their Dobes! Remy is recovering well and is already up and about. We're pulling for you Remy! To make a tax-dedutible donation for this brave boy, you can mail us a donation or use the PayPal button below. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
