Rising from the Ashes... a magical Phoenix!!

Hellllooo!! Yes, you can tell from my ever-dilated stare that I can't see you with my eyes...

BUT, I can "see" you with my ears and nose and skin... and with my heart...

Do my ears look uneven? With what I have survived, I'm surprised there's anything left...

Frostbitten? Bitten off is more likely... but for all I have endured... I am a DobePhoenix!!

I am finally and wonderfully loved...  I've gone to heaven way before I am dead!!

You've heard it all before you might think - and it makes you angry, yes...  You must know that but for organizations like the Doberman Assistance Network and Forever Dobe Rescue - this Phoenix would have remained in the ashes of the cruel life he has lived...

Before you begin reading Teka's heartfelt words below, please enjoy this update from FosterMom Lucinda... "...the vet techs were so madly in love with this sweetie, 3 of them swooped down at his departure to demand to know what would happen to him. He is so sweet and gentle you can't help but love him. He especially loves to have his poor scarred face rubbed and started 'nubbing' his very first night! And, boy, does he love having a bed! Please read the rest of his sad story and consider helping this boy stay happy for the rest of his life."

"Lost, alone, scared, starving and BLIND!! This little guy is only about 3-ish yrs old. Someone found him (they say) and took him to a rural Kentucky shelter that kills about all the dogs that wind up there. No one cared about him and no one noticed him. Except one person at that shelter who contacted the DOBERMAN ASSISTANCE NETWORK, so it was DAN to the rescue, fearing for this dogs life, as he had to be carried in and could barely stand. Starved, emaciated and covered in scars and abrasions. They rushed a wonderful dedicated volunteer 3 hrs to this shelter to pick this poor soul up. He was covered in feces and urine. He never moved the whole drive back to his new foster. The volunteer driving him kept looking back at him to make sure he was still alive. He went straight to the vet who was made aware of his debilitated body and they were ready for him with open arms. He was carried in and placed right on the exam table. On a body condition scale from 1 to 10 the doctor rated him a 9. Every bone in his body was protruding thru his bony frame. His left front leg horribly swollen, we were unaware if it was broken or not. He was covered in old scars and some fresh ones. Especially on his face. After x-rays, CBC, urine and the whole exam was complete, he was placed on IV fluids, heavy duty antibiotics and pain medication. His leg was abscessed. He has hookworms, whipworms and roundworms, but by the grace of God, he was heartworm negative!! His blood work wasnt the best, but it did not indicate anything critical. He was offered food, and that's when they noticed that he couldnt seem to find the food bowl. The next morning they did a thorough eye exam. They then discovered he is totally blind. No eye reflexes at all!! The doctor does suspect that this poor little dog was used as a bait dog, due to all the scarring on his body. After the swelling went down a bit on his leg, they discovered the puncture marks on his leg... they appear to be bites.

Close your eyes... imagine you are blind and wandering the streets, or stuffed in a kennel only to come out and be attacked by another dog, imagine the terror, and the hellish life this poor lost soul had to endure.

Open you eyes now and picture him as he is today, after 2 days in hospital on lifesaving fluids and medication he is on his way to recovery. He is in a loving foster home to heal and learn to trust and love, perhaps for the first time in his life.
His first night was like heaven for him. A warm bed, plenty of food and water and a loving human laying with him by his side. Even the resident cat came to lay with him and proceeded to clean his face for him. He loved it. He doesn't know what to think has happened to him! He is amazed, he is tired, he is happy. With a heart of gold and a strong will to survive, he will physically heal, and in time, he will mentally heal. HE WILL RISE UP FROM THE ASHES!!

His vet bills are quite sizeable and there will be a few more to get this boy healthy and happy and ready to go to a forever home that he so desperately wants.
Now, open your hearts, your minds and please open your wallet. Help us give this boy a lifetime of health and happiness. Just the thought of helping this boy will give you warm and fuzzy feelings and bring much happiness to your life.
