Thanks
for taking a moment to read about some of the Doberman lives SND has been
fortunate enough to help. The links below will take you to the pages that
contain pictures and stories about our SNDobes. The stories have been split
up into separate pages to make them easy to download (that's good, it means
we have helped lots of Dobes!). Please remember to read our Currently
In Need page for Dobes that need help now (there are Dobes there that
will come to this list when we're done helping them).
Kaiser was a sweet 6 year old Doberman living in Louisiana with his owners, both students. When
preparing to evacuate for Hurricane Ivan, Kaiser did a "split" on the tile floor. He began to have
trouble walking, and intially it was attributed to his fall. When his condition began to worsen, Kaiser's
owners took him to several vets for diagnostics, finally learning that he hand an atypical case of
Wobbler's Disease. Since they had already borrowed a great deal of money just for the diagnostics,
Kaiser's owners came to SND for assistance with his surgery. He was given a 50% chance for a full
recovery, and no complications were expected, however, Kaiser died on the operating table. His owners
are devastated, and the SND family send our most sincere condolences. You can read the whole story of
Kaiser's ordeal by visiting
Kaiser's Page. Please consider making a donation in Kaiser's memory.
Reba
December, 2004
Gary and Carol Gresch live in WI, along with their 3 year old Dobe, Reba. They
were visiting their daughter near Milwaukee for the holidays, when Reba got
away from Gary and ran into traffic and got hit by a car. She has some lung
trauma and a badly broken front leg. The Greschs are living on a fixed disability
income, and they really couldn't afford to pay for Reba's surgery. Being in
the emergency room and having to get Reba emergency medical care they paid
Reba's vet bill with a credit card, however, they really can't afford to make
the payments on the credit card. You can read the full story on Reba's
Page.
Bobo
December, 2004
Bobo was a 3 year old male Doberman living in Tennessee.
Shortly after moving to a new home, Bobo, unaccustomed to his new surroundings,
got loose and took up chase with a neighbor's cat. He was hit by a car and
immediately rushed to the emergency vet. Bobo's leg was fractured in two
places and he would need surgery in order to save the leg, and ultimately
his life. This is just the beginning of his misadventure. Unfortunately, his owners
did not take proper care of his leg after surgery and eventually Bobo was lost. Please visit Bobo's
Page for more the complete story. We thank Dale Maddox Geddis for all that she did for
Bobo, and offer our sincerest condolences on his loss. Please consider making a donation in Bobo's memory.

December, 2004
Rocky is a 4 year old male Doberman in the care of Doberman Rescue of Colorado. Dobe Rescue of
Colorado learned of Rocky when they received a call from a vet in Pueblo about a Dobe with a compound fracture
of the tibia who's owner did not wish to treat. The x rays showed approx 10 separate broken pieces so the vets will
use a plate to the jigsaw back together.

Ruby
December, 2004
Ruby was an 8 year old black/tan Doberman. She developed a major infection in a front foot
(origin unknown). The owners tried treating it topically themselves over time. It seemed to get
better then get worse -- the toe nail would fall out then re-grow. The condition
escalated and the owners desperately looked for financial assistance to get the condition
treated professionally. Finally, a local group (Animal Welfare League) paid to have the foot diagnosed.
The vet said that gangreen had set in and two toes should be amputated. Additionally, she has an
abcessed tooth. The vet is worried that the liver and/or the kidneys may have been affected by the
infection. Ruby needed bloodwork to access the damage the infection has caused to her system and surgeries for
her foot and tooth.
You can see additional pictures and learn more by visiting
Ruby's Page. Sadly, Ruby's infection had consumed her body and she had to be let go.
We extend our deepest sympathies to her family. Please consider making a donation in memory of Ruby.

Apollo
December, 2004
Apollo is a handsome, young 22 month old pup who was recently adopted to a family in Massachusetts.
About 3 weeks after finding his new home, he began throwing up constantly and was taken to the vet.
Exploratory surgery resulted in the removal of a small section of intestine where a piece of plastic
was lodged. Apollo's family was not prepared for this sudden expense, as they had just amassed over
$5000 in bills caring for their previous Doberman, whom they recently lost to Cardio. You can read
more about Apollo by visiting
Apollo's Page.
Gracie
December, 2004
Gracie is a 10 year old female found as a stray in Eugene Oregon. She was taken in by Northwest
Doberman Rescue. When Gracie was taken to a local vet the initial conclusions were that she
was very undernourished (she was only 33 pounds), has cataracts in her eyes and has terrible
teeth with a severe infection. The vet prescribed some antibiotics for the mouth infection.
The vet would like to do a blood workup on her and get her teeth cleaned up, removing those
that are too far gone. She will also need some arthritis medication and maybe a special diet.
You can learn more about this sweet senior girl by visiting
Gracie's Page.
Annie
December, 2004
Annie is a beautiful 4 year old female Doberman living in Ohio. She has an acute case of
osteochondrosis (OCD). Annie's owner has volunteered with Doberman Rescue groups for years and has two other Dobes in addition
to Annie - all of whom are rescues! After over $1200 in diagnostic work, Annie went to Ohio State University
vet school where she was evaluated for surgery and determined not to be a good candidate. Annie needs pain relief in the
way of accupuncture and/or medication. Unfortunately, Annie's owner is out of work right now and looking at surgery for herself and there is just no more money.
You can see some pictures of this beautiful girl, and read more by visiting
Annie's Page.
Jimmy
December, 2004
Jimmy is a one year old owner turn-in to Doberman Rescue of Colorado. He is a sweet red neutered
boy with natural ears. Unfortunately, Jimmy has a bad case of mange. The vet has now recommended that the condition be treated
aggressively. First, will be an analysis to determine if there are auto immune issues in addition
to the demodex mange. So at this stage we are looking at a complete bloodwork-up followed by a
couple of dips. Then the meds will probably include oral ivermectin. You can learn more by visiting
Jimmy's Page.
Nala
November, 2004
Nala is a beautiful 22 month old female Doberman living in Georgia with
her owner, Alan. In November, Nala bloated and her surgery and after
care came to well over $3000. When Nala was in post op from the bloat surgery,
they were concerned with her heart rate/beats and thought she might have
DCM. Tests were run, but they were inconclusive as to if she does have DCM,
or if her heart was simply stressed from the bloat emergency. Alan wanted
to take Nala to a board certified cardiologist for more conclusive tests,
but was still struggling to pay off Nala's prior bills. SND was happy to help and even
happier to report that Nala is doing very well. You can learn more on
Nala's Page.

Hans
November, 2004
Hans is a twenty month old black/tan neutered Doberman male that was "dumped" at
the Gwinnett Co., Georgia shelter by his owners because he needed to "have
his leg fixed & it was too expensive". It turned out that the poor boy had
been in pain for months - goodness knows how long, as the operating vet said
it was an old injury - serious trauma to the left hind leg - including a
broken ACL. He had been dragging it around for so long that was thin & atrophied
with arthritis on top of that! He had his surgery on July 26th - Dr. said
that with care he will be fine - we have just put him in double casts to
give him more stability & to protect the other leg. Hans is now good as new and available for
adoption. He likes other
dogs & is a good watch dog too. Please visit Hans' Page for
more information and to see some pictures of the adorable boy.

November, 2004
Nigel is black, cropped and docked Doberman, estimated to be about 8/9 years old. He wound up
in a Tennessee shelter, and because of a lot of team work from a number of caring people, he
found his way to Doberman Rescue of North Carolina. Cyndi Swanson, the director states, "Nigel
appears to have had a rather tough life up to this point, with a number of scars on his face and
legs, but that does not discourage his wiggly tail when somebody speaks to him. Unfortunately,
Nigel is heartworm positive and Dobe Rescue of North Carolina needs help with his treatment.

King
October, 2004
King is a 4 month old Black & Rust male Doberman puppy, living with Sue in Illinois. King got loose
from Sue Tuesday evening and he was hit by a car as he chased after a loose dog in the distance. Sue
took King to the emergency clinic and they kept him overnight and treated him for shock. When she
went to pick him up the next morning he was unable to stand. She took him immediately to her vet for
further evaluation. After taking x-rays he determined that King has 4 fractures to his pelvis and
the top of the femur bone is broken off. Initially King's surgery was thought to be very expensive, but
fortunately, a more affordable vet was found and Sue was able to pay for King's surgery after the intial
contribution from the SND General Fund. You can learn more about this adorable boy at
King's
Page!
