List Of SNDobes Helped

Dobes helped from October to December, 2002

Thanks for taking a moment to read about some of the Doberman lives SND has been fortunate enough to help. The links below will take you to the pages that contain pictures and stories about our SNDobes. The stories have been split up into separate pages to make them easy to download (that's good, it means we have helped lots of Dobes!). Please remember to read our Currently In Need page for Dobes that need help now (there are Dobes there that will come to this list when we're done helping them).

Hope
October, 2002

Hope is a senior black/tan female in Manchester, TN. She was found on the roadside next to some garbage on October 8th, 2002. Shortly before being found, Hope's leg was broken. The kind woman who saved her had Hope's leg splinted and then contacted Teri Dugan for help. SND member Mary Lynn Bushong contacted Teri and now SND has taken on Hope as one of our own! The surgery to put external stabilizing pins in her leg has been performed and Hope is doing well! She is still at the vet's office for observation. The estimated cost for all aspects of the surgery as well as a heartworm test and boarding was $500 - $550. We'd like to thank everyone that helped this poor girl recover! Please visit Hope's page to learn more about her.

June 7th, 2003 - We are very saddened to report that Hope has passed away. Please read Teri's fond tribute to this wonderful Doberman.

Parker
October, 2002

Parker is a 1 to 2 year old male Dobe found as a stray by animal control in North Carolina. He had been hit by a car and his rear leg shattered. When no one claimed him at the shelter, Doberman Rescue of the Triad (DRT) was contacted. The beautiful, red with rust Doberkid is only 53 lbs. After a long transport, Parker is now under expert veterinary care. He needs it! Parker will have to undergo extensive surgery to have his leg set, braced and restored to normal use. Estimated costs are presently in the $1,500 range for the necessary orthopedic medical procedures to be performed. He will also need follow-up visits and medications. We're happy to say lots of people chipped in to help this poor boy while he did lose his leg, he is much, much better and beginning the life of a happy bouncing boy! Most animals cope quite well with losing a limb. You can read Parker's full story and see more pictures in Parker's Photo Gallery by visiting Parker's Page.

Jasmine
October, 2002

Jasmine is an eleven year old rescue who got into a fight with another family dog. A large wound was opened on her neck. Despite immediate care, the wound eventually became severely infected and required follow-up surgery. This included the insertion of drains, blood transfusions, and antibiotics. The infection still threatens Jasmine's life, and she will require follow up visits with the doctor. SND raised money for Jasmine's bills so she could recover from this terrible wound. We're happy to say she is doing well now, thank you to everyone that donated money and bid on our auctions! You can read Jasmine's story as told by his mom on Jasmine's page.
Note: Jasmine passed away about a year later from old age related conditions unrelated to her previous injuries.

Scarlet
November, 2002

Scarlet is a one year old red female introduced to us by Gayle Hall at SC Doberman Rescue. She has a number of health issues to deal with. Scarlet has a severe skin condition called Demodex, and her lymph nodes are swollen. The most disturbing issue though was that she was about one month pregnant when turned over to Gayle, and the fetuses had died. This was causing Scarlet all sorts of toxicity and clotting problems with her blood. She is on the long road to recovery, but isn't out of the woods yet. We're asking for your help to make sure this poor girl makes it through these problems. You can see a larger picture of Scarlet and read more about her condition on Scarlet's Page. Thanks very much!

Cheyanne
November, 2002

Over a weekend SND received a desperate phone call from Sharon in Arizona. Sharon had adopted Cheyanne 7 months before from Arizona Doberman Rescue. She was a 7-year-old red girl. However, Cheyanne had been getting sicker and sicker. The vets had been testing her for everything trying to locate the problem but Cheyanne continued to waste away. They finally discovered that she had diabetes and severe pancreatitis. Sharon was asking for some financial help to address the enormous bill incurred so far and to help treat the diabetes. SND authorized her to tell the vet to start treatment immediately. However, before the weekend was over Cheyanne had died from pancreatic failure as she was being walked by the vet tech. SND members "passed the hat" to pay the remaining vet bill. We are greatly saddened by Cheyanne's passing. We know she lived her last days being loved and cared for by Sharon, and for that we are grateful.

Aditi
November, 2002

Aditi was a 10-year-old female found wandering the city streets of Houston, Texas. She was rescued by Rhiannon, an SND member. Aditi had what appeared to be an injured paw and leg. The leg was severely swollen and she couldn't put any weight on it. SND voted to have the injury examined and treated. It turned out that Aditi had an advanced case of osteosarcoma that was evident in the lymph nodes. Based on the X-rays the cancer had probably spread into her body. The vet gave her a "slim" chance of survival if the leg was amputated -- and that would only buy a few months at best. The only logical choice was to euthanize.

At least this little Dobergirl had two days of pure love and care with Rhiannon. She saved this little girl from a miserable slow death on the streets. She allowed her to go peacefully -- she "released her with dignity and love."

Scooter
November, 2002

Scooter was abandoned in West Virginia. Our friends at Doberman Assistance, Rescue & Education alerted us to his story. In June of 2002, DAR&E received a call from an animal control officer in West Virginia. Several months earlier, she had caught a stray Doberman that she estimated to be 6-7 months old. He limped and had a bowed front leg, possibly a break that had never set properly. Scooter had corrective orthopedic surgery on June 19th to help get his leg straight, and a second surgery is on hold for now. This great young pup got the help that he needed thanks to the efforts of DAR&E.

SND would like to thank all the generous people who helped Scooter with his recovery!

By helping us with the General Fund, you will make sure that SND is able to send money to help Dobes with emergency needs and to get the ball rolling on our more expensive cases. No donation is too small and every bit helps. Thank you!!
