List Of SNDobes Helped

Dobes helped from July - September, 2005

Thanks for taking a moment to read about some of the Doberman lives SND has been fortunate enough to help. The links below will take you to the pages that contain pictures and stories about our SNDobes. The stories have been split up into separate pages to make them easy to download (that's good, it means we have helped lots of Dobes!). Please remember to read our Currently In Need page for Dobes that need help now (there are Dobes there that will come to this list when we're done helping them).

Raven
July, 2005

Raven is a sweet and gentle 5 - 6 year old Doberman in the care of Atlanta Doberman Rescue. She was initially found as a stray and upon examination tested positive for heartworm. She is also incontinent and the rescue group had urinalysis and blood work done to find any physical problems that may have been the cause. As soon as the incontinence became controllable with medication, Raven received her first heartworm treatment. Shortly afterward she started experiencing weakness in her rear end and loss of appetite. The rescue group, being hard hit with HW+ dogs had no money to find out what was causing the problem. SND covered Raven's vet visit, where it was determined that she is having a reaction to the heartworms breaking up inside her. She was treated with medication and has made a full recovery and has since, been adopted!

Tookie
July, 2005

Tookie comes to us from Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue. She is a ten year old black and tan girl, cropped, docked and spayed. Tookie was dropped off at a Louisiana shelter with a quick kill rate. She was very sick with Pyometra, kennel cough and an upper respiratory infection. She is also heartworm positive. After her hysterectomy for Pyometra, Tookie recovered and did initially well. Two months later, she started in with vaginal bleeding. Tookie was treated for an infection, though she started bleeding even more. X-rays didn't reveal any stones, so she required exploratory surgery to look for small stones, a tumor, or complications from the Pyometra surgery. GCDR needed assistance to provide Tookie with the exploratory surgery that she needed, and of course, SND was happy to help. The surgery was performed and a mass was removed from inside Tookie's vulva. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Rocky
August, 2005

Rocky is a 9 year old male Doberman in Georgia. He wound up in rescue after being taken in a cruelty case, and has a number of health issues. He desperately needed to have several bad teeth removed as well as a large tumor on his foot and one on his eyelid. Further complicating matters is the fact that Rocky also has Von Willebrand's disease! You can learn more by visiting Rocky's Page.

Sammy
August, 2005

Sammy is a 6 year old red Doberboy living in Florida with Carol, his mom. He was originally brought to SND's attention when he was diagnosed with a blown disk and surgery to repair it developed numerous complications. Unfortunately, Sammy was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and is no longer a candidate for surgery. He will, however require medicines to keep his heart condition under control and acupuncture to keep him mobile and control the pain from his disk. You can learn more by visiting Sammy's Page.

Haley
August, 2005

Haley was a beautiful eight year old girl in Georgia who had been dealt some bad things by life recently. Her family was relocated to Germany, a move that really hurt all involved. Then, shortly after their leaving, Haley fell ill to heart disease. She made gradual progress but sadly wound up succumbing to the disease. You can learn more by visiting Haley's Page. Mochi
August, 2005

Mochi was a 7.5 - 8 year old Doberman living in Colorado with her owner, Beverly, a full time student on veteran's disability. Recently Mochi suffered a laceration her leg when getting into the car. Initial treatment consisted of debridement and a course of antibiotics. Mochi's ability to get past an e collar caused the wound to open and worsen. It was thought for a while that surgery may be needed to repair Mochi's leg, but at this stage the vet believes that the wound will heal with meds and protection from licking which will come in the form of a basket muzzle donated by Doberman Rescue of Colorado. Sadly, Mochi was also diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas and nothing further could be done. You can learn more by visiting Mochi's Page. Please consider making a tax deductible donation in memory of Mochi. Your donation can be mailed in , or you can use the PayPal button below to remember her online.

Alex
August, 2005

Alex is a handsome 1 ˝ - 2 year old male in the care of Doberman Rescue Group (currently being fostered in Texas). Alex has always been a picky eater since he was rescued. Then he started peeing in his crate . Numerous tests were run, since at first he was thought to have copper toxicity, but that has been ruled out. He had his exploratory surgery and biopsy which revealed that he has lesions on his liver, the cause of which has not been determined. But it may possibly be linked to Rimadyl use or a Pro-heart 6 shot that he may have had prior to coming to DRG. ( He has never been on Rimadyl or had the dreaded Proheart6 injection since he has been with DRG.) At any rate, his bills are continuing to mount and DRG is running short of funds to continue to fight for Alex’s life. You can learn more and see some pictures by visiting Alex's Page!

Ivan is an 8 month old pup that was hit by a car and abandoned at the vet's office. You can learn more by visiting Ivan's Page.

Leo
September, 2005

Scott and Stephanie live in Ohio with their 6 year old Dober-boy Leo along with Ruby (12 year old Dobe), Alexa (10 year old Greyhound), and Sammy (18 year old Tabby cat). Leo was just diagnosed with osteosarcoma. The specialists believe that they have caught the problem early enough that a combination of amputation of the front leg along with chemotherapy will save Leo's life. But the process must be started immediately -- surgery is tentatively scheduled for Friday assuming the financial arrangements can be made. The prospect of not trying to save Leo's life is unacceptable to Scott and Stephanie. They rescued Leo when he was a 6 month old puppy and has had a carefree life of leisure ever since. The cost for the surgery and the subsequent treatment is estimated at around $4000. This exceeds the resources of the family so they have come to SND for assistance. You can learn more by visiting Leo's Page.

Ivy
September, 2005

Ivy is a sweet 9 year old blue Doberman who was adopted from DAR&E two years ago. Kobe
September, 2005

Kobe is a 2.5 year old black natural eared neutered male living with his family in PA. Around Thanksgiving he tore his ACL. His owners paid for surgery at that time. He is now non-weight bearing on the OTHER leg and has severe joint swelling with all classical symptoms that his other ACL is indeed torn. He will require surgery on this knee. Kobe is an oversized boy at 100# so this has not been in his favor. His mom is a teacher and the family includes three children. He needs immediate surgery on his leg and may require additional surgeries, as his problems are believed to stem from hip issues. You can learn more by visiting Kobe's Page.

Chase
September, 2005

Chase is a 2 year old red cropped and docked red male. He came to Hand Me Down Dobes from a southwestern Indiana dog shelter. Chase was picked up as a stray after being hit by a car. His front leg was shattered and he was suffering from a nasty infection. A good Samaritan sprang him from the shelter and transported him to Westerville East Animal Hospital, Hand Me Down Dobes' vet clinic in Columbus, late on a Saturday night. Radiographs of the leg revealed that it could not be saved and the only option for Chase was amputation due to the duration of the injury. Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Ott worked on the sweet red boy until 3:00am, on their own time. As if this was not enough, it was also found that Chase was heartworm positive. You can learn more by visiting Chase's Page.

Achilles
September, 2005

Achilles is a 3 year old blue Dobe that has developed a weight problem. A routine exam did not reveal any cause for his sudden weight loss or his lethargic attitude. The vet wants to run a blood panel (including thyroid) to see what the problem may be. Other tests may possibly be needed. Kandy, Achilles' owner does not have the money for further diagnostics. You can learn more by visiting Achilles' Page.

Annie
September, 2005

Annie was an adorable young Doberman, adopted in November 2002 by the Gulick family. Annie had been plagued all of her young life by Von Willebrands disease, and in July of 2003, she was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and started a regimen of supplements to help build her muscle tone and offset the arthritis as long as possible. In May of this year, she was diagnosed with AIHA (Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia). The Gulick's are quickly running out of money to provide Annie with the veterinary care that she needs. Sadly although SND was able to provide assistance, Annie's problems were just too much to overcome and sadly, the sweet girl did not make it. You can learn more by visiting Annie's Page. During the last few months, Nancy and Chris have spent around $8,000 caring for Mable, but Nancy had lost her job and Chris, a contractor has not been paid for his most recent job which took about 3 months, and they were quickly running out of money.
