Dobes helped from July to September, 2002
Thanks for taking a moment to read about some of the Doberman lives SND has been fortunate enough to help. The links below will take you to the pages that contain pictures and stories about our SNDobes. The stories have been split up into separate pages to make them easy to download (that's good, it means we have helped lots of Dobes!). Please remember to read our Currently In Need page for Dobes that need help now.
Help our future Special Needs Dobermans!
Gunner
is a one year old puppy in California that had to have emergency surgery to
remove a towel he had eaten. His owner tried every avenue she could for assistance,
then she found SND. Given that he was in grave danger, we authorized the emergency
surgery to save his life. It was that close. Gunner is recovering and moving
around well. His bill however isn't doing so well. The vets did a great job
on the surgery, but because of the emergency situation and the amount of post-op
care he had to have, the bill came to $1,369. SND officers authorized the surgery,
paying for the surgery out of pocket. That money was later raised thanks to
the generosity of SND members and those bidding on our fundraising auctions.
Many of those items were provided by Gunner's family. SND was all to happy to
help run the eBay auctions to raise the needed money for his recovery.
Emma
Lou is a beautiful 10 month old white ("albino") Dobe in Pennsylvania.
We learned about her from our friends at Delaware
Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance. Emma broke her leg three months ago
and had it fixed. She wasn't confined and as all Dobes will do, she romped around
and broke the leg again and it had to be reset. By the time the leg was broken
a third time, DVDPA stepped in and had orthopedic surgery performed. Emma is
now getting the supervision she needs (along with a lot of love!). The leg is
setting well now, but the operation was $1800.
SND is very happy to have helped our friends at DVDPA and Emma! Generous donations and auction bids came in for Emma, thank you everyone! You can more pictures of this great girl on Emma's Picture Page!

Leo
is a 10 month old boy that had his arm badly mauled by his former owner's pit
bull. His arm went untreated for 10 days. Thanks to the help of Gulf
Coast Doberman Rescue and two great vets (Dr. Ware in Atlanta and Dr. Gernon
in Baton Rouge), Leo's arm has a good chance of being saved. The skin grafts
and constant bandaging will be costly though, and we need to help Leo now! The
cost of this treatment has been estimated to be $1,000.
UPDATE: SND designated $300 from our General Fund for Leo, and we raised even more from our generous member donations and auction items. We are happy to have been able to help Leo and the great folks at GCDR! You can read more about this brave boy on Leo's Page.

Kim
Todd, in the panhandle of Florida, has a Doberman herself and has done rescue
work for 11 years. She recently pulled an 8 year (approx) old male Dobe from
the local shelter. He had open sores on him, was nothing but skin and bones.
(His owner was put in jail and "Chance" was left to fend for himself
in the yard for two weeks until animal control "rescued" him.) Kim
had him examined by her vet and it was suspected that Chance had Prostate problems
(maybe a tumor). SND authorized the Vet to do full blood work up, and do a hip
X ray. It turned out that the most serious problem he had was a "bb"
lodged in his hip. In Kim's words "I have seen my share of problem dogs.
This one is not, he may have some medical problems but his spirit has been broken
and I would like to help him get it back." Chance is now doing great!!

Please consider helping the Dobes that we will find in the future. You can make a donation to our General Fund by using the PayPal Donation link below, or you can mail us a donation directly. Donations to this fund will be used as 'seed' money for new SND cases as we find out about them. By helping us with the General Fund, you will make sure that SND is able to send money to help Dobes with emergency needs and to get the ball rolling on our more expensive cases. No donation is too small and every bit helps. Thank you!!
