List Of SNDobes Helped

Dobes helped from April to June, 2002

Thanks for taking a moment to read about some of the Doberman lives SND has been fortunate enough to help. The links below will take you to the pages that contain pictures and stories about our SNDobes. The stories have been split up into separate pages to make them easy to download (that's good, it means we have helped lots of Dobes!).

Xavier
April, 2002

Xavier was left without a family when his mom was admitted to a hospice care center in Sarasota, Florida. Marge Shoets, a friend of the SND family, learned that Xavier was in a shelter and offered to adopt him. Marge lives in Tallahassee which is about ten hours away. SND members Louise Perry and Grace Joffe sprung into action and found some kind and caring people to help with the transportation. Part of our mission is to help with rescue efforts for senior Dobes, and Xavier is a perfect example of a boy needing some help. We also assisted with Xavier's vet bills by designating $200 for him out of the SND General Fund. Everything went very well and Xavier is now living happily with his new mom, Marge.

SNDer Steve Martin received a great letter from Xavier (now answering to Gulliver, Bubba, Bud, Good boy!, etc.) and we'd like to share it with you:

"Hello Steve and all the wonderful folks on the SND list. This boy and our family would like to thank yu all for the carin luving deeds of the list membrs. Jake
April, 2002

Jake has become one of SND's signature cases. This poor boy escaped a life of abuse at the hands of "people" that run dog fighting circuits in Arkansas. His story is very disturbing, so be prepared. It is also the beginning of a heartwarming story because he has been saved from a life of torture and certain death. Thanks to many people including Marcia Cowen with the Doberman Rescue Group of Oklahoma, the doctors and staff at The Woodland Animal Medical Center, and dozens of caring individuals here at SND, Jake is beginning the happy and loved life every Dobe should have. Please read Jake's story, you will find pictures and TV news stories and the complete inspiring account of his recovery.

Duchess Schmidt
April, 2002

Marcus Schmidt contacted us concerning his newly adopted Dobe, Duchess. She has Addison's Disease which affects the adrenal gland. The treatments are given once every 25-28 days and cost $70 per. Marcus, a pilot for a major airline, was among the thousands of people that were left unemployed after the terrorist attacks of September 11th. SND has agreed to help Duchess and hopes that you will join us. Visit our Duchess page to see a picture of her and read about her story. Please consider donating to her cause by sending SND a contribution.

Baruch
May, 2002

Baruch, a beautiful male Dobie, is the constant Dobie companion to Avrama, an SND member in NY. Over a weekend Baruch developed a bowel problem with all the symptoms of a major obstruction. Since this kind of thing must be checked out immediately, SND authorized Avrama to take Baruch to an emergency vet. An X-ray revealed that the problem was "impacted feces" --serious but easily dealt with once you know what the problem is. Baruch was medicated and "poked/prodded and generally humiliated" and fully recovered in several days. He is now back at the park every day showing off.

Legend
June, 2002

SND learned of a Philadelphia Dobe named Legend when her mom, Lois Butler, emailed us looking for advice and help. Legend had some mammary gland lumps that needed checking out. It turned out that they were cancerous. Because of her age, surgery was ruled out. Thanks to Lois and her other family members, Legend continued to live the happy life she had become accustomed to since being adopted by Lois. SND was very happy to have been able to help Lois and Legend, and we are greatly saddened to say that Legend did pass away. She was loved and cared for by the Butler family, and knew only kindness. We thank the Butlers for helping her.

Tango
June, 2002

Tango is a four year old 120 pound (!) red male in Littlerock, CA. He tried to scale a six foot tall chained link fence and fell back into the yard. Brace yourselves... he had a compound fracture of one arm with bone sticking through the skin, a deep gash on the other, and scrapes on his chest. Rushed to the Collett clinic, the doctor there said surgery was needed as soon as possible or Tango might have to be put to sleep. The leg was placed in a temporary cast and he was put on pain medication. A pin was inserted in hopes of letting the arm heal, but Tango is just to bib of a boy! The pin was bending and the great doctors at Collett decided he needed a K-E device. Visit Tango's Page to read more about his story.

SND is committed to help Dobes like Tango whenever we learn of them. Please consider making a donation to the SND General Fund. Donations to this fund are used to help new cases as we find them. No donation is too small! We will also have some auctions to raise additional money for our Dobes, look for them on the Current Auctions page. You can use the PayPal Donation link at the top and bottom of this page, or mail us a donation directly. Thank you very much!

Champ
June, 2002

Champ was a seven month old black and tan male when we learned about him, picked up from the Philadelphia SPCA. Our good friends at Delaware Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance (DVDPA) let us know about him. Champ had spent three months in a shelter prior to being picked up and needed help. He had a break in his leg some time in his recent past. The best guess was that this break either went untreated or was treated improperly. The upper leg has continued to grow. The the lower portion, however, did not. Surgical specialists were been contacted to determine the best method to repair his leg. There is a special procedure that involves re-breaking his arm and allowing it to heal properly while stretching the bone to stimulate growth. His wonderful foster parents kept him while this surgery was performed.

We're happy to report that after a long and difficult recovery, Champ now has a fully functional arm and is living a wonderful life as an energetic and boundless young Dobe! Many thanks go to his foster parents and the good folks at DVDPA.

Help Our Future Dobes!

Please consider helping the Dobes that we will find in the future. You can make a donation to our General Fund by using the PayPal Donation link below, or you can mail us a donation directly. Donations to this fund will be used as 'seed' money for new SND cases as we find out about them. By helping us with the General Fund, you will make sure that SND is able to send money to help Dobes with emergency needs and to get the ball rolling on our more expensive cases. No donation is too small and every bit helps. Thank you!!
