Muggsy!

SND first learned of Muggsy's plight when we received the following letter on May 26, 2003.

My name is Louise. I am desperately seeking a home for an unwanted mostly deaf Doberman. This is her situation. Her name is Muggsy. She is 5 years old. I used to work in a grocery store and dicsovered her one day. It was late at night and she was roaming through the store. I approached her with a snack and then we bonded. Unfortunatley I can not have a dog, I live in a co-op. My children and myself go to the store every day to feed her, clean up where they keep her, bought her a bed and clean blankets and take her out every day to exercise and socialize her with the neighbor dogs. The owner has no regard for her. If I do not get there every day she would not eat. He has told me that if I could find someone who wants her to get rid of her. She is very gentle with children, she is very affectionate and loves to be with someone to scratch her ears, because of a simple infection left untreated she is almost deaf. A friend of mine and myself were able to pool our money and get her to the Vet recently. The Vet says she is in pretty good shape considering that she has been in a basement for two years, not fed properly and not excerised. She is tied up most of the day and night except when I come to take care of her. My heart breaks when I have to take her back, her eyes get sad because she knows where she is going. Please help me help her.

Our president, Steve Martin, contacted a local Doberman Rescue group, to check out the story, and the dog. The rescue group took Muggsy into their program. Muggsy was taken to the vet, and diagnosed with an ear infection and severe skin problems. SND picked up the tab for her vet bill, and was very happy to be able to assist in seeing Muggsy toward her new life.
