Meet Marshal!

Magnificent Marshal - Splendor In The Grass!!

On March 15 2008 Marshal showed signs of lower back pain after romping with his red DoberSister, Sylvia. He shortly after that became weak in his rear legs. Kristina rushed him to Med Vet, an emergency vet. They did an exam and came up with three possible findings (IVDD) intervertebral Disc Disease, FCE (fibrocartilaginous Embolism) or spinal cord mass. They sent him home with tramadol and prednisone. He was released with crate rest and to call on Monday for an exam with surgical department. If Marshal loses the ability to walk he will need to have surgery. Marshal's family took him home to rest. Around 3:30 in the morning he was trying to get up and could not use his back legs. They rushed Marshal back to Med Vet where they it was determined that they will have to do surgery. The doctor did a myelogram and a CT scan and found out Marshal has (IVDD) Intervertebral Disc Disease. He had a ruptured thoracic T13- L1 lumbar vertebra his right side. His surgery went well and fortunately without any complications. It will be a long recovery for Marshal, four to six weeks and hopefully he will be able to walk again. He will most likely have leftover neurological deficits for the rest of his life, but hopefully his family will get him to walk again. We wish this dear DobeGuy a speedy and wonderful recovery. The hard part is yet to come both for Marshal in getting back on his feet, and for his family who wants to be sure to get him the best care he needs. The family has very serious medical problems of their own but they insist on continuing to help Marshal as much as possible - they thank you all for any consideration you can give to this DobeFamily.
