Meet Luke!

Lovable Luke - A DobeBoy Who Needs Your Help!!

Meet Luke! He's just a pup at 1 year old. It's hard to say how much of his short life he's been blind. He's fun-loving and goofy, just as any year old pup should be. Andrea was amazed how quickly and fearlessly he learned his new home, including several flights of stairs. He has opened Luke's All You Can Eat Buffet downstairs. Upstairs he recently opened his surgical incision by scooching under their bed in his sleep--and getting firmly stuck. This guy is quite a character, nothing is going to slow him down! Andrea fondly tells me he talks to his bed every night while he's making it. Mutter, mutter, poke, prod, paw, mutter, mutter...until he's finally settled, (Ssh, quiet, Luke's sleeping). Obviously Luke and dober-sis Sara have seemingly perfect lives. Unfortunately after 2 months in his forever home, Luke began having seizures. The doctors at Cornell put him on seizure meds, however a month later he suffered 3 seizures in 18 hours. He was admitted to the Cornell Hospital, where he had another severe seizure. An MRI showed a large amount of fluid on his brain, causing the blindness and the seizure activity. Without brain surgery his prognosis was terminal. Andrea and David didn't hesitate and Luke had the life saving surgery. A shunt was permanently implanted to drain excess fluid into his abdomen where his body can break it down. Luke is healing well and hopefully won't get stuck under anything again! His blindness is not reversible but Andrea feels his other senses are sharper since the surgery relieved the pressure. David and Andrea are delighted to have their super lap-dog sprawled across them again, but their problems are far from over. Luke's medical bills stand at just under $7,000.00. Even with both of them working full time jobs, the debt is overwhelming. Please help these dedicated people in any way you can.

Here are some post surgical pictures we received in time to show you what this VERY brave DobeGuy has been through! Can you say INVASIVE?? Poor Guy! This hasn't dulled his spirit though - as you can see he is still in the market for a good chew! And a healing sleep by his loving DobeFamily! He was practically totally shaved - even to the top of his beautiful head! Please wish him speedy healing - This DobeGuy deserves our love and support!!!
