Keno
Keno is a handsome red doberpup, approximately 1 year old, in the care of
Doberman Rescue of Minnesota. He was turned into rescue after
being hit by a car and breaking both his front legs and suffering a crushed lumbar vertibrae. Here is the
letter from Laura Hulke of Doberman Rescue of Minnesota, that introduced us to Keno:
Keno is a little red Rescue DoberBoy approximately a year old. BOTH
of his front legs are broken and need surgical plates. No problems
with recovery here. He also has a crushed lumbar vertebrae that
can't be surgically corrected. This is will need to heal on it's
own. He has deep pain sensation and surface pain sensation, his
reflexes are good, he can move his legs and has good anal tone
(something I'm sure you always wanted to hear!). There's no way to
> tell at this time if he will have permanent neurological damage in
the form of urinary or fecal incontinence, or lack of motor skills.
Everything that they can test for looks good though. We did lots of
talking between the orthopedic surgeon and the staff veterinarian.
They both think that it's worth taking the chance to fix him. I
also talked with my friend who is a veterinary radiologist
practicing in another state, and she also says that it's worth a try.
The clinic we use will give us 30% off services and 20%
medications. The surgeon is willing to give us 30% off of his
surgical fee, which I guess he NEVER does, so I think he really
wants us to try and save this dog. The total bill (surgery and
clinic costs) will be somewhere between $2000 and $2500, which is
extremely reasonable for what will be done. My radiologist friend
couldn't believe how great a deal this is.
I have a foster home lined up that is willing and able to do the
extensive aftercare.
