Ivan
Ivan is 8 month old Dobe pup in Florida that was hit by a car and taken by his owners to a vet -- then
abandoned. When the owners never returned to claim him, Robin, one of the vets, volunteered to adopt
him. He has severe hemoabdomen (ruptured spleen), lacerations, lung trauma (he was initially on oxygen),
broken pelvis, broken (chipped) lumbar spinal vertabrate and a fractured femur from an old injury.
After numerous xrays, sonograms, and consultations with various specialists and surgeons it was
determined that the best approach was a conservative one - to avoid surgery if at all possible. He
was initially treated with sedation to help with the anxiety of strict cage rest, pain meds,
prophylactic antibiotics, NSAIDs, joint supplements, and a support splint for the old fracture. The
follow-up treatment includes acupuncture and physiotherapy/ swimming. Even with Robin's discounts, the bills
are quite high.
