Honey is a 9 to 10 year old red girl who is cropped, docked, and spayed. She was relinquished to Doberman Rescue of Colorado by her owners and has been in foster care for approximately six weeks. She is also featured on the Senior Doberman Project site.

Honey came to Rescue after being on long term doses of predisone and with untreated hypothyroidism. She is now off the pred and is on medication for thyroid problems -- she is getting body tone back and has lost at least 10 lbs. of excess weight. She is temporarily on antibiotics for a bacterial skin infection, and she has been successfully treated for mites.

Honey has a very severe allergic response evidenced by her skin condition. Blood serum tests have have shown the following allergies:
Food:
     potatoes
     venison
     turkey
     soy products
     carrots
Environmental:
     cottonwood
     juniper
     certain strains of grass

Her vets wish to start a course of serum injections to see if they can raise her immunities. They think that much of her allergenic responses will decrease the longer she is off the pred. It is their opinion that the long term pred dosage compromised her immune system. It might never come back fully normal, but perhaps it will be mitigated over time. For her age she is an incredibly spry girl, and suffers her treatments with aplomb if not joy.

Doberman Rescue of Colorado has already put a great deal of money into her care and diagnostics. The serum injections will be the last extraordinary expense. We need your help with this. Please help Honey by using the provided PayPal button, or mailing a tax-deductible donation.

Honey's foster mom's description of her:

"Honey was certainly aptly named and is a very sweet and loving dog. She’s a little bit shy at first, but she loves attention and soaks it up like a sponge. It does not appear that she has been taught basic commands, having been strictly an outdoor dog 24/7 for the past 4-5 years, although she walks very nicely on a leash and loves that. She also enjoys riding in the car, lying in the sun, and hanging out with her canine foster sister when foster Mom is gone. She is not at all aggressive towards other dogs, but wouldn't enjoy the company of a dog that would pester her. She doesn’t currently have much contact with children but would most likely be fine with children of at least school age. Even though she has been an outdoor dog for a long time, she loves being an indoor dog! There were a couple of "accidents" in the beginning, but she quickly learned to use the backyard as her bathroom. She will be a delightful companion and would probably prefer to be somewhere where she doesn't have to be left alone for long stretches, since she does experience some mild separation anxiety. She would also enjoy the company of another friendly but non-invasive dog. She is a classic red Doberman and deserves to be placed with kind, loving and patient people who will give her time and attention."
