Hans

Hans is a sweet 20 month old black/tan male Doberman who was dumped at the Gwinnett County, GA Shelter because he had an injured leg and his owners did not want to spend any money to have it taken care of. Fortunately for Hans, Nancy Sodel came to his rescue and agreed to foster the deserving boy. When he was seen by the vet, it was determined that he had a badly torn ACL as well as other serious trauma to the let because the injury had been ignored for so long. He had long since given up on trying to use the leg, and the muscles were beginning to atrophy. Hans received the surgery that he needed, but after settling in at Nancy's house, he was having trouble navigating with the cast. He would try to hold the other leg up and it would bang against the supporting leg causing him to fall. Nancy had an ingenious idea. She took him back to the vet and asked for the other leg to be placed in a cast to protect it. The vet agreed and now Hans is starting to use both of his legs. He will, however need a great deal of physical therapy to insure that the surgery is successful and that he regains the use of the injured leg. Hans is a very sweet and tolerant boy. He loves people and gets along well with other dogs. The vet did not even have to sedate him for the second cast because of his sweet disposition! Now that he is feeling safe with Nancy, his happy attitude is really starting to come out! He will be adopted to a very special home when his recovery period has passed.
