Haley!

Haley is a tremendously sweet and loving eight year old senior Doberman near Atlanta, GA. She was living very happily with her family, ten acres to play on, three girls to keep her company and even a cat Haley got along with great. Haley is now the unfortunate victim of a military relocation - her family has been sent to Germany. She misses her family terribly, even looking intently at children she sees during car rides, obviously thinking she sees her family members. SND’s good friend, Suzanne May, now has Haley. Suzanne placed her with Connie and her sons Joe and Andy, friends of Suzanne's also in GA. The new family situation was working out marvelously, new kids to play with, an all-around great, loving home. Then Haley started having trouble breathing one night, drooling as well. A trip to the emergency clinic confirmed that she has heart disease. They were able to stabilize her, drain a lot of fluid from her lungs, and stayed for around the clock observation.
Her
new family has become incredibly attached to Haley, even though it has only
been a matter
of weeks. They are very torn up over this.
Over the next couple
of weeks, Haley went back into the vets once for fluid draining, and a couple
of times to try different medications. She is on currently on Furosemide (Lasix)
to keep the fluid build up down, Enalapril and Digoxin for the heart, as well
as Hawthorn berry (a holistic medicine for strengthening
the
heart tissue). Haley made it
through the first weekend, and slowly regained some strength. All parties involved
know not to get their hopes too high, but she started to keep food down and
has even started playing again. Gradual progress is being made. Obviously her
activity level is being monitored, but these are both good signs. Connie and
Suzanne
are sharing
Haley's
care because
she has a medicine schedule to keep and they would like to keep an eye on her
around the clock. They would dearly like to provide this sweet, darling senior
girl with more time and love. Haley’s life was torn out from under her
when the family that loved her so much had to leave the country, now this.
The emergency bills and vet visits have piled up quite a bill - $5,000 to date
(4/29/05). We are asking for your help with Haley's ongoing care. Every Dobe
deserves a chance at a longer life filled with love, and Haley is certainly
no exception - especially given what life has dealt her recently. Please
