Gordy!

Gordy is a sweet boy in the care of the fine folks at Doberman Assistance, Rescue and Education (DAR&E). He is a three year old, black and rust male who has a docked tail and uncropped ears. This poor boy has been through A LOT this year, and we need your help! Here's his story:

Gordy was one of three litter mates turned in to DAR&E when they were approximately five months old. He was placed with a young military couple and lived with them for nearly two years before they returned in December of 2004 due to the fact that they were expecting twins and he “wasn’t good with kids”. They told DAR&E that he had been left out unsupervised in the yard and kids had been teasing him. Imagine that! They also said Gordy had been limping but that they had taken him to their vet who had done an x-ray and didn’t see any reason for the limp. Luckily, Gordy's new foster mom took him to her vet who immediately recognized an ACL tear. Gordy needed surgery to repair that ligament.

Just about the time he was done recovering from that surgery, he started favoring the other leg. As luck would have it, his other ACL had torn as well and needed surgery. He’s had a rough go of it with lots of complications. Those include four (of six) plate screws that needed replacing, going after his incision, and a life threatening infection that required long stints of hospitalization. Poor guy!

Gordy's bills for the two surgeries have mounted to over $3500. He is now on the road to a full recovery thanks to some very kind, caring people, and should be looking for his forever home shortly! Please consider helping Gordy, he really deserves being a loved Doberman living with a loving (and permanent) family!
