Meet Flame!
Flame is a 4 year old red Dobergirl with a sweet personality. Lauren, Flame's foster mom says that she likes everyone - people, dogs, cats - everyone. She says that she is also very beautiful, tall and leggy. She was rescued from a kill shelter more than 7 months ago when her owners dumped her after a divorce. When she was rescued, she showed signs of pain in her back legs, which was later diagnosed as bilateral hip dysplasia. The surgery was estimated at $1500 and they began raising money and after 6 months have $1000.
Upon further analysis it was found that Flame's problem is actually Wobbler's and more detailed x-ray analysis revealed some spondylosis. Lauren has consulted with Dr. Durkes and plans to have the gold bead implant to treat these issues. Total cost is estimated to be $1500 to $1600. Gold bead implants have produced great results in Wobbler's patients. To withold treatment would ultimately result in paralysis! Flame has a potential adopter waiting for her who has contributed substantially to her intial fundraising.

Updates:
8/17/03 - Flame is doing better, since her visit to Dr. Connoly and the re-wrap of her neck. Her foster mom reports that she is no longer showing signs of pain, and her footing is more sure than it has ever been! She is scheduled to have the wrap taken off in about another week, so keep your fingers crossed for her!
6/21/03 - After what seemed to be some initial progress following the gold bead implants, Flame started to regress. She is now "wobbling" again, and is in obvious pain. Dr. Durkes was consulted and has recommended a course of acupunture treatments, and re-wrapping of her neck. The only other option for Flame would be to undergo another surgery. SND is currently trying to raise money for Flame's acupuncture treatments, so that she can be relieved of her pain and continue the healing process. 4/21/03 - Flame and her foster mom made the drive from GA to IN for Flame's surgery. So far, all is well. Check back often for more updates!
