Fanny

One hour away from the 'injection,' Fanny Rose's third owner shipped her to a rescue group in Washington state. She was about 14 months old and had been in two other homes, her energy and intelligence being more than some could handle.

When she finally reached her forever home in Oregon, Fanny went to obedience classes, learned tricks, played frisbee, tennis ball, and learned the social graces. There was one thing that seemed odd though: her tail stayed to the right and, unlike most Dobes, when she was happy her stubby barely moved. At the vet's office she was deemed to be a normal, healthy girl, so not much thought was given to her crooked tail.

Then nine months later, for no apparent reason, Fanny Rose started to have mood swings and took out her frustration on her younger canine brother, an Aussie Shepherd named Kirby. It was noticed that Fanny's right hip had dropped and a set of full spinal x-rays were taken. It was discovered that Fanny was in severe and constant pain caused by arthritis in both shoulders, her hips, and throughout her spine. The x-rays also showed that her right hip had been broken and was never treated and that the left side of her heart was somewhat enlarged. Although a radiologist at the local university reviewed Fanny's x-rays because of concerns about her enlarged heart, he was more concerned about Fanny's neck and said that she was a prime candidate for Wobbler's.

When this happened Fanny wasn't even 3 years old, but she was the physical equivalent of a 7 year old dog. She was immediately started on acupuncture and chiropractic treatments to manage her pain and nutritional supplements for her heart and her joints. At this time there is no sign of Wobbler's. Dr. Howard, her vet, says she probably won't have the lifespan of a normal Dobe.

Dr. Howard has been most encouraged by Fanny's response to acupuncture and thinks she is a prime candidate for gold bead implants. Fanny's mother is single, and has spent nearly $2,000 over the past few months in vet bills and desperately needs our help to continue to keep Fanny comfortable for the rest of her life You can mail us a donation or use the PayPal button below if you would like to make a tax-deductible donation for the lovely Fanny.
