Duke

Duke is a sweet and handsome four year old black/rust male Doberman in the care
of CASA, an all-breed
rescue group located in Marietta, GA. Duke was pulled from the shelter the day
before Thanksgiving. At the time of his liberation, it was noted that he was
quite lethargic and was having trouble walking. Since he was wearing a rabies
tag, the transport volunteer called the vet listed on the tag and learned that
he had been attacked by another dog twice during the month of November, prior
to being turned into the shelter. Still, difficulty in walking was not noted in his
chart, and no clues were given as to what the problem might be.
Duke was taken to Town and Country Veterinary Hospital, where the prelimnary
diagnosis was Lyme's disease. He was running a fever of 104 and had to be carried
into the vet's office. Blood was drawn, and numerous tests were sent to the lab. Duke was
placed on a regimine of Doxycycline and baby aspirin. By the time the tests came
back, Duke's fever was gone, his appetite had returned, and he was gaining strength, but
the lameness persisted. All tests came back negative for any tick borne disease, and poison
was ruled out due to a normal renal profile. The vet suspected a cervical problem.
CASA requested assitance from SND in pursuing the cause of Duke's mystery
lameness. He is scheduled to see Dr. Michelle Tilghman of Loving Touch Animal
Hospital, on 12/17 for X-Rays and a cervical work up. Duke needs your help in
finding the cause for his lameness. He is a sweet and loving doberboy who needs
a chance at a happy, active life.
