Rest In Peace Sweet Duchess

May 31st, 2011

This beautiful photo was taken on May 29th where a glorious 13th Birthday Party was celebrated for the Duchess.  She was the star of the show, of course - this is the image that will be forever in our hearts. In the words of those who rescued and cared for this Duchess of Devine, Texas, as told to another Duchess Devotee, Debra...

"...these photos of Duchess's 13th birthday party held last weekend. Duchess came to San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and Rescue three years ago as a Senior and has remained with them as a resident Queen Bee since. Duchess is a lady who loves being the center of attention so the party was perfect for her as you can see in the photos. This party was not meant to only celebrate her 13th Birthday but also a celebrate her life as she has end stage cancer and will be leaving them soon. Margo and LaRue will miss her dearly. (BTW, Margo said she finished about half of her cake!)..."

To Margo and La Rue we give our thanks and we celebrate the life they gave this precious DobeLady and now we all grieve with them...  Rest in Peace Sweet Duchess... Sleep easy and play hard in Sirius' Garden in the Night Sky - we know you'll shine there forever!!

The Black & Tan Rose of Texas, a Duchess indeed!!

UPDATE - December 17, 2010! We are so sorry to report that the dear Duchess of SADAR's last check-up revealed that the cancer that she fought for more than a year and a half has returned with a vengeance and is attacking her body from many angles.  She proved what a fighter she was and still is!  Please keep this beautiful girl in your thoughts as she continues this battle for as long as she can.

The Duchess of Road Kill is how this grand DobeLady is affectionately referred to at San Antonio Doberman Advocacy & Rescue. A good friend of the rescue was driving down a country lane and saw this skinny elderly Doberman eating road kill. This is how Duchess got her moniker. After a few good meals in her belly, the lovely Duchess began showing her true self. She is elegant and takes guff from no one, human or Doberman alike. She rules the roost at her foster home and is full of the proverbial “P & V”. She makes sure that all toys are known as hers and races around the yard putting the younger Dobermans in the foster home care to shame. She was a favorite at the recent adoption day that SADAR sponsored. Since she is older, she may end up spending the rest of her days with the SADAR in foster care, but considering no one knows where she has been, she is making out like royalty!!

SADAR is a small rescue and as such, the financial backbone of this rescue is often strained and often supplemented by the volunteer members of the group - anyone in rescue knows that tune all too well. So, Duchess and SADAR would be extremely grateful for any donations you could make to help with the surgery on her tumor and follow-up visits. We are all praying for a good outcome for this elegant DobeLady.

The Duchess has had her surgery with removal of the neck and side growths - while undergoing this procedure, additional suspicious growths were removed from a mammary gland and that tissue sample is off to pathology! Please keep positive thoughts for a GOOD report!

THANK you for ANY donation, no matter how small - every bit HELPS! Won’t you join us in helping make SADAR's heavy load a little lighter so they can be there for the next Dobe who needs them? You can do this by mailing in a tax-deductible donation or by using the Paypal button below to help this wonderful Senior DobeLady! THANK YOU!!

In Memory of Duchess!
