VIVA LAS VEGAS!
And VIVA John Getter and DR of Nevada!!
Dolly is a beautiful and gentle Doberman who had a run of especially bad luck. She was wandering the streets with a badly broken ankle and smashed toes on a rear leg and soft tissue injuries to a front leg. She had no identification and no real chance of survival. The shelter where she was being housed has a practice that is all-too-common. They would hold her for three days to see if anyone claimed this sweet dog, and then she faced euthanasia because she was injured. No owner came forward. But Doberman Rescue of Nevada stepped up and took her to a safe place.
A lifetime of pain and discomfort was not an acceptable option. So, DRNV volunteers and Dolly visited one of the finest veterinary surgeons in Nevada. X-rays and examination showed she had been limping around injured for at least a month. The injuries were the result of either a fall, perhaps from the back of a pick-up truck, or being hit by a car, or both. The good news – he could fix her injuries. The bad news – it would be very expensive, and she would need between 8 and 16 weeks of confinement and care to recover. Being restricted for that long is not easy for a two-year-old, but is the key to a long and happy life.
Dolly
is more than just a pretty girl. She is charming and likeable. She gets along
with anyone and anything. She likes other dogs, cats, adults, kids and is a
great leaner. Who could resist? DRNV gave the go-ahead to do surgery. Within
a day, they had located a perfect foster “Mom” for Dolly for the
recovery.
Surgery was a complete success. The doctor inserted a pair of pins, crossed
through her broken ankle and upper foot to allow the bones to heal over the
next couple of months. Dolly is now in her foster home and we can expect this
wonderful DobeGirl, once slated to die due to her non-life-threatening injuries,
will live a long and happy life.
The bills for her surgery were significant. Doberman Rescue of Nevada took on the task of saving Dolly and it has asked SND and our friends to help so that they can continue to afford to save the next Doberman. That’s a real challenge with several thousand dollars in vet bills pending. After some very bad times, Dolly needed some good luck and friends. She has found both. Now, she needs you. Please consider saying “Hello Dolly” because it is so nice to have her back where she belongs, and she deserves whatever support you can afford to offer.
