Danny!

Danny is a young (about 1 year old) black/tan natural eared Dobe who came to our friends at Doberman Assistance, Rescue & Education (DARE) from a shelter after his 3rd home(!). He was already thin and wormy when he suddenly began throwing up. After a couple of days at one vet, his condition continued to decline. He wasn't eating anything. Fluids and meds weren't helping, so it was off to another vet for another opinion. No answers there and his condition became a matter of life and death, so they took him to a critical care 24 hour hospital with lots of specialists. An x-ray revealed what might have been an intestinal obstruction, so lacking any other ideas, they performed exploratory surgery. The doctors found a section of intestine that was inflamed, but nothing that would explain his condition. Biopsies of his intestine and stomach were taken and they are awaiting results. Oddly enough, he is showing some signs of regaining his appetite after surgery. Again, no idea what is causing all this. He is out of critical care and back at another vet's for observation, but he's still being watched carefully.

DARE has been hit with an enormous bill trying to save this great young boy. Thanks to their efforts, he is now up getting better! We are asking for your help with his recovery. Updates!

August 3rd, 2003 - Happy News for Danny!
Collen Taylor from DAR&E checked in recently to update us on Danny. Here's the happy news:

Danny, happily, was placed with some previous adopters a few weeks ago. Since his initial health problems in his first week or so with us, he recovered well and never had any other problems. We spent about $5,000 on him, but he was a young dog and we felt that we had to do it and that he deserved a chance.

His new family have had several rescued Dobermans and currently have a female they adopted from us several yrs ago. So Danny has Ginger to play with, and his adopters are amazed at how well behaved and calm he is for such a young dog. We're very happy that they all found each other!

Thanks to SND and everyone who is a part of such a wonderful group!
