Colby

Colby is an approximately six years old fawn with a docked tail and natural ears. He will be neutered once he has gained some weight and strength back, and definitely before adoption. Here's his story:
Colby came into DARE in April, 2005. He was found wondering in a public park in Newport News, VA. He was taken to an animal shelter and, at that time, DAR&E was called to rescue him. Colby was emaciated. Every bone of his skeleton protruded on his body and he could barely stand when DARE got him. He most likely lived his life outside with little to no care.
Colby was taken to a local veterinarian by a DARE volunteer. His skin was crawling with fleas and ticks, and his intestines were filled with whipworms and roundworms. To make matters worse, He tested positive for heartworms. Colby was a very sick Dober Boy. He was at the local vet getting very good care and plenty to eat. Colby was transferred to a volunteer's vet in MD where he continued his heartworm treatments. His rehabilitation will take span months, but he is picking up weight and doing much better. His total bill reached just over $1000 for the entire treatment.
