Chayane

Chayane is a lovely little one year old dobergirl owned by Terri Fabio, a single
mother of three, in Leicester, NC. Poor Chayane has a terrifying story
of torture and abuse to tell. On 11/29,
she was let out to potty, but when her family went to let her in, she was gone!
Her family searched and searched for her, but the only clues they could
find were signs of struggle near
the gate to their yard. The next day, they received a phone call telling them that a couple of boys (who had a beef with the Fabio
son) had
stolen Chayane, and were beating her unmercifully. She feared for Chayane's
life! Chayane's family went by the home of the boys to search for her,
but to no avail. The next morning,
the Fabios found Chayane lying in a nearby ravine where she had been discarded
to die!
Her injuries were severe. She suffered from a broken femur and fractured pelvis,
as well as internal injuries to her abdomen. She was taken to a local veterinarian
who
prescribed some pain medication and took X-rays, but refused to further treat
her until the family could come up with $4,000! The Fabios had no choice but
to bring their
girl back home and try to raise the money. They put out collection jars all
over town, and started passing out flyers telling of Chayane's plight.
The Fabios, along with friend and neighbor, Mary Buckner, continued to try and
raise
funds for Chayane, this time sending out an Internet plea. That's how they learned
of
Special Needs Dobermans. Their vet refused to work with us on a payment plan,
so
our
member closest to the Fabios,
Dale Maddox-Geddis, was contacted. She negotiated a substantially discounted
price for treatment with her own vet, and the grateful owners agreed to drive
Chayane the
3.5 hours to Dr. John Harroff so that she could finally have the surgery she
needs. The operation will take place on Wednesday. Chayane desperately needs
your
help to return to
being the healthy, happy, and loved young Doberman that she once was.

December 8th, 2003 - Chayane's surgery was postponed for a day. After re-
examination, he felt that the muscle was too constricted to perform a
sucessful surgery, so Chayane was put in traction today to stretch
the leg, and hopefully the muscles will be elongated enough to do the
surgery tomorrow.
