Bobo!

BoBo is a 3 year old black/tan male with natural ears who has lived in Tennessee for the past two years. He got loose and chased a neighbor's cat and was hit by a car.
HIs owners immediately took
him to an emergency vet who found that BoBo's femur had two breaks and required surgery. They were
short on the funds to pay the emergency clinic and they would not release poor Bobo until the bill was paid.
An emergency payment ($238.00) was called into the emergency vet to
finish off the bill so
that Bobo could return home. Then the search was on for a surgeon who would accept time payments. After
a day of searching in Tennessee and even Georgia, our Prez, Steve Martin called Dale Maddox Geddis in
North Carolina, who
is currently caring for Penny. She felt her vet would be willing
to take the case, and his owners prepared for the five hour drive. Upon speaking with Dr. Harroff, he felt he
would need to see good X-Rays before he could commit. Unfortunately, the clinic that had first seen Bobo
had only taken one X-Ray, and it was of poor quality. So, Bobo went back to the original vet for more
X-Rays. This time, the films revealed that the femur was broken in two places and in between the two breaks,
the free piece in between was broken lengthwise. Pinning it was not within Dr. Harroff's capabilities.
The new xrays also revealed that the other hip had been fused due to dysplaysia. That meant that
amputation was out of the question since the remaining leg was not capable of supporting the weight by
itself. PTS became a very real possibility. Dale contacted another vet, an orthopedic surgeon who,
after talking to the other vets, decided he could do it.
Now Bobo needs our help to see that he receives the surgery that he needs to save life and limb!

Updates:
January 16, 2005 - Bobo is gone!
Following the previous update, Bobo had healed enough to return home. We were very saddened to learn
that Bobo's people did not keep him properly supervised following his surgery
and his leg was re-injured beyond repair. Even amputation was not an option, as his other leg was not strong
enough to support the loss of the other leg. He had also become malnourished. Sadly, the only option
left for this young
fellow was to end his suffering and release him with dignity. We thank Dale Maddox-
Geddis for all that she did to try and help Bobo, and we share her tears for his loss. Rest in peace, sweet
Bobo.
August 4, 2004 - Update from Dale!
August 1, 2004 - BoBo had his surgery Monday. The surgeon was faced with real challenges
since the bone had two breaks and the center piece also had a break lengthwise. So the Doctor wrapped
the bone with wire like a coil in odrer to hold the bone together during healing. Then he took the
two loose ends and tied the upper and lower end of the bone together -- and added pins for safety.
The 4 hour surgery was a roaring success.
