Meet Mr. Bandit, II!!

Mr. Bandit in his glory, taking a stretch!!

Back in jail for my own good!!   Practicing the Victorian collar... practicing!!

Bandit's outlook on life took a dramatic turn for the better when he was rescued from a shelter in South Carolina by Broken dobe Doberman Rescue. Initially it was believed that this young DobeGuy has arthritis issues but it soon became apparent that he was dealing with much more serious issues. He was moved to one of brokendobe's premier fosters and brokendobe colleague, Jan, in North Carolina. Jan has taken over Bandit's day-to-day care and is trying to get him some pain relief and a definitive diagnosis. She is truly Bandit's Angel - she's his foster mom and will also act as his case manager for his time with SND! Go Jan!

Bandit has now had x-rays which revealed he has Wobbler’s Syndrome. Bandit has moderate intervertebral disk disease at C6-7 where the disk space is narrowed with sclerotic end plates and mild spondylosis, and vertebral tipping. He has tetraparesis which is weakness in all four legs but he is ambulatory. He has mild loss of proprioception in his rear legs and discomfort on knuckling over in his front legs. Bandit’s is doing much better while in foster care for the last several weeks. He's now had his first acupuncture session and he is already much more comfortable. He is able to lie down and place his head on a bed rather than trying to sit up and sleep. It took 2 sessions before Dr. Laura Morefield could work on his neck. He was so guarded trying to protect himself we were afraid acupuncture would not be possible for him.

Orthopedic consult with Dr. Bergman of Carolina’s Veterinary Specialists will review Bandit’s x-rays and will soon determine exactly what we can do to relieve Bandit’s pain. Now that we have seen positive response to acupuncture we were quite fortunate to learn that Dr. Terry Durkes, the leading gold beads implants specialist, has agreed to review Bandit's x-rays to determine whether he is a candidate for this treatment! Thank you Dr. Durkes! Mr. Bandit has some options! Whatever the course decided for this dear DobeGuy - it will not be inexpensive. This is why we are asking for your help to raise money for his acupuncture, and his possible surgery. In the meantime, Bandit has been treated to several neck wrap experiments which are now being perfected - his picture above shows one of the earliest experiments! He is quite patient with the whole process and it does seem to make him feel better

Mr. Bandit’s blood work indicates he is otherwise healthy. He’s a happy boy and does well with Dobermans and hounds. On good days Bandit dances around like a show boy - he says it's his "inner Doberman" - indomitable!

Mr. Bandit needs our help to proceed to a long-term solution and so, Jan, Brokendobe and SND would appreciate any help that you can send his way. Thank you for any donation, no matter how small. It truly DOES make a difference. Won't you please help us make a difference in the rest of Mr. Bandit's life? Please help dear Mr. Bandit by sending in a tax-deductible donation online by using the PayPal button below, or by mailing one in. No donation is too small; every little bit will help!
