Apollo

Apollo is a dearly loved 6 year old Doberboy who lives with his family in MD. He was adopted a year and a half ago from DAR&E and joined his new family of two teenaged girls and Molly, the other rescue Dobergirl.

Recently, the family went on vacation for a week and boarded Apollo and Molly at a local vet clinic. When they returned they found Apollo in critical condition. He was rushed to another clinic for emergency treatment. He was severely dehydrated, high while blood cell count, liver and kidney values were either way too high or way too low. After two days his kidney function returned to normal, but his billirubin was high and his albumin was low – among other liver issues. He also showed fluid in his pericardium, chest and abdomen, part of his right lung collapsed. All of his symptoms have been treated and with intensive care Apollo has begun his recovery. Unfortunately, even with the extensive and intensive testing they have not identified the source of the problem that sent Apollo into the downward spiral.

Apollo is stabilized at "90%" and with the proper medication is expected to have a full recovery. The family is committed to do what is necessary to bring Apollo back -- doing all they can for Apollo is the only option. In their words "Apollo is the best of everything Doberman ...smart (he sailed thru obedience and got his CGC on his first try), gentle, sweet, goofy, they just don't come any better.." The family has spent some $8,000 on diagnosis and treatment and are facing additional monthly expenses for further testing/monitoring and medication. They have now reached out to SND for assistance and SND has pledged to help them save their precious Apollo.
