Apollo

Apollo is a beautiful 22 month old, natural eared red dobie. When his previous owner was unable to bring him along to their new home, Apollo was given up to a local dobie rescue. The folks at the rescue knew they immediately had the perfect home waiting for him. His new mom, Cindy in Massachusetts, had recently lost her 10 year old red dobie, also a rescue dobie, unexpectedly to dilated cardio myopathy and was waiting to find just the right dobie to fill the void. This past weekend, after less than 3 weeks in his new home, Apollo became ill with constant vomiting. A trip to the local vet Monday began with a battery of X-rays and barium series, to the tune of $550, and ended with a referral to a University Veterinary Hospital for exploratory surgery on Tuesday. Luckily for Apollo and his new family, the surgery was successful and ended with the removal of a portion of his small intestine, as well as a small piece of a child's toy. Since there are no children in his new home, there's a high likelihood that the small piece of plastic was a remnant of his old home which did include small children. One would guess it had been silently hiding in his system for the past few weeks, shifted enough to block his passageways and became lodged in the intestine this past weekend. Apollo is expected to make a full recovery, but his surgery bills are estimated to be close to $3,000, on top of the initial $550. His new mom is still reeling from the previous vet bills of over $5,000 this summer related to treating her last dobie boy for the cardio.
