Dear Apollo! The God of Light and Love... that is what you will always be to your Mom and your family! You fought a valiant fight against the monster that steals away so many of our loved ones, a fight you could not win indefinitely. Hurricane Katrina couldn't bring you down and you brought such happiness to the people who loved you through the years and through this last battle. They loved you then, they love you now and always. Another very bright start in Sirius' Garden shines on forever... Romp and play as you will... nothing can touch you now! Sweet Dreams dear Apollo...

Apollo in 2003
and Apollo (above) as handsome as ever in 2008!!
Meet Apollo! His namesake in Greek Mythology has been recognized as the god of light and the sun, truth and prophecy, medicine and healing and so much more. BUT, did you know that he was also seen as a god that could bring ill health and the plague as well as the ability to cure. So....this is a very complicated and very busy god. We are now summoning his "ability to cure "....immediately to stand up FRONT AND CENTER!
Just before Apollo became ill, his Dobersister, Abbey, also from GCDR, recently died from uncontrollable seizures. At that time he had another Dobersister, Wendy, also from GCDR. SO, as you see DoberMom Teresa is a true ANGEL trying to care for all these previously discarded kids. NOW, to add to all this stress, knowing Apollo is needing more medical attention, Wendy, suddenly dies. You can imagine all the sadness in this house, the tears, the feeling of defeat. Teresa suspects cardio, but Wendy gave no signs of illness. The cost of final expenses has added to her debt. But, with that said,Teresa's heart opened immediately and she just adopted a new DoberGirl, Roxanne, and says... " we are trying to settle her in. Apollo was very stressed by Wendy's death (so was I) and we are hoping this girl will help fill the void and help us heal. She of course has issues so we are working to get her as comfy and secure as possible."
Apollo needs to be seen by a Cardiologist as soon as possible. The cost of the consult with echocardiogram is $400 but that is just the beginning. There are so many expenses with medications and further diagnostic procedures. Teresa has tried a special cardiac diet but Apollo could not tolerate it , so went back to his other food. She tries to adjust his Lasix medication but can't seem to find the correct dose. She does need the guidance of a Cardiologist but is so worried that she can not afford this with the recent $900 spent at her regular Vet. She can't sleep at night worrying about him and feels guilty that she can't afford the specialist. She cries a lot. With the proper diagnosis and treatment Apollo could have a few good years left as we all know. Teresa can't bear to lose Apollo now.
Given
the state of the sluggish real estate market, she can't sell her house in New
Orleans... or rent it, so is making 2 house payments. She has a daughter in
college also and works overtime as much as she is allowed. Even with all that
going on,Teresa does everything she can for her Doberkids. She has maxed out
her credit cards caring for Apollo. She really needs our help . With the economy
as it is now, the gas prices and all, we here at Special Needs Dobermans, realize
just what we are asking of the Doberman community. Any little bit will help
her get through this crisis.
