Alex

Alex is a 6 year old black, uncropped boy who recently came to DAR&E. His route was a difficult one but
we’re very glad to help this great guy! The story goes like this………DAR&E received a call from a
Northern Virginia animal hospital that someone had brought in a Doberman that they had recently
obtained from someone else. The dog had blood in his urine and the vet explained that they needed to do
a culture of his urine but the owner objected to the cost, so they just did a urinalysis and prescribed
Baytril, but again, the owner objected to the cost. They sent him home with Amoxycillin instead and the
next day the owner called and asked if they could give him some sedatives, as Alex was pacing and it
was driving him nuts. They explained that the pacing was probably an indication that he was in pain
from the UTI and asked again to give him Baytril and the owner then asked how much it would be to
euthanize the dog, as this was just too much.
At that point, the vet called DAR&E and made sure tjey could help Alex and then they had the owner
sign him over. When we got Alex in, it turned out that he actually had stones, not just an infection.
Since he was a cryptorchid (one testicle undescended), they had both surgeries done at once. Boy, was
he a happy boy once he got thru that! Alex has now been made available for adoption, but it’ll
probably take awhile to find him a home because people usually aren’t interested in a boy his age.
Aside from age, though, he has everything going for him! He’s handsome, gets along with people, kids
and other dogs! He certainly doesn’t appear to be 6, but that’s what we were told. He’s a happy guy
and seems pretty happy to be in a foster home with another Dobergirl to boss him around. Please
